4 Se-Kah-Ke-Squawks Lodge Adviser Page Page 4 Lodge Adviser Larry Lama Frith Around the Lodge members are jumping in and making things happen. Chief Lewis is working hard to provide and improve training at the lodge meetings. Morgan Mayer with the help Mark Spitler is working on a super, super fellowship. I bet it will be better than the Conclave. Just wait until the Lodge meeting when they unveil this program. Craig Tanner says elections are going well in all but one chapter, so help is being sent in from other chapters to help Patwin. Thanks Miwok and Eluwak chapters. Ta Tanka Ska is looking very good, there are new officers and activities all over their district. Keep it up! Welcome to Sandy Moulton the new Adviser of the Cha-Pa-Di Chapter. Sandy is a SUPER dedicated Arrowmen to take on the challenge of rebuilding the sleeping chapter. She has a great deal of respect in her District and brings energy and creative ideas for the youth in her area. Everyone step up and let Sandy know you support her, get involved at the Chapter level and share ideas and support at the Lodge level. Now on to the dinner. THANKS to everyone who served at the Council Dinner. There are far to many members to mention all your names in this article, but rest assured you guys did a Great job and should feel proud of your efforts. I have received rave reviews all the way from our Council Exec. Doug McDonald and Chairman of the Board J.J. Mc Clatchy to the Chefs in the kitchen. By the way I learned Mr. McClatchy is a Vigil Member. People were impressed by the professionalism of the youth members, how they kept water glasses full, served with style, cleared dishes quickly and quietly, and seeing the Lodge officers and advisers right in with every one else working. We had many unsung heroes, Sandy Moulton and were making Gerry Albright being sure each plate was perfect when it left the kitchen. Kim Wilkinson jumped in with a gang of boys and cleaned dishes for hours, I can t thank you guys enough! Besides, dinner detail thanks go out to Bill and Jon Rogers and Vice Chief Sean Gaffney for Building a Excellent Camp and Lodge See Lama on page 5 DINNER AND NOAC UPDATE First, let me congratulate the Arrowmen who participated in the activities at the Council Dinner in February. You did an excellent job of representing the Lodge and I am proud of every one of you for a job well done. I extend to you the appreciation of the Council Executive also for a job well done. Everyone was complimentary about the Lodge, and I feel you demonstrated what cheerful service is all about. I also want to congratulate Mike Gaffney as the first recipient of the Lodge's James E. West donation to the Council. If you are going to NOAC 2000, please note the following schedule for payments: total of $150 by January 31, 2000; total of $400 by March 31st; and the balance by May 31st. Because of the favorable airfares we were able to obtain the total fee will be $500. We will be departing Sacramento late on July 27th and returning late on August 3rd. We will spend the night of July 28th at the Radisson Hotel in downtown Knoxville. The hotel is an easy stroll to the Trade-O- Ree being held prior to the start of NOAC and the contingent will have the opportunity to visit it. Further info will be coming out on NOAC soon. Make sure your fees are up to date. At last count there were still two slots available for youth (under 21). If you want to go, especially at this bargain price, send in an application and the required fees as of this date. All Arrowmen are invited to purchase the special 2- piece fundraiser patch set which should be available soon. Bob Nelson, Deputy Lodge Adviser ATTENTION CHAPTER ADVISORS: At the Council of Chiefs meeting held on January 15th we had chapter representatives attend the session on Indian Lore. At this session information was given about Indian traditions and customs. We also had a good time making Indian Fry Bread. At the next Council of Chiefs meeting we will again have great ideas for helping your chapter start to use the very traditions that our Order was founded on. These sessions are intended to give you ideas, allow you to start ceremonial teams and/or dance teams, as well as update you on Indian events that are happening in our area. Take advantage of this meeting, send a youth or an adult or both. Last meeting participants received the Indian Lore Handbook loaded with helpful pages on outfitting, dancing, Pow Wow traditions, as well as a How to Get Teams Started checklist. If you attend this next session, and did not receive this valuable booklet your chapter will receive it at the session. Don't miss out! Next Council of Chiefs meeting is March 18th at C a m p P o l l o c k. Kim Wilkinson Indian Lore Advisor, Se-Kah-Ke-Squawks Lodge Adviser Page Page 4

Credit for the organizing goes out to Activity Vice Chief David Rojo and Activity Adviser Bob Moneymaker, Good Job! I am very Proud of everyone in this event, and hope to see this enthusiasm and effort all the way through conclave and an awesome party at the Fellowship. We can do it! Lets all step up and bring our Ordeals to a new level of Quality to be sure the Candidates have the experience they deserve, and event they will be happy to remember. Ordeals are also a perfect place for members to seal their commitment in the order, by fulfilling their Brotherhood. I hope to see everyone at Ordeals working and sharing the load. In Brotherhood and Service, Larry Frith Lodge Chief Fellow Arrowmen, I want to take a moment to thank everyone for the work they put in at our first successful lodge meeting in January. I look forward to our meeting in March, when we will include an overnight to give our lodge leadership an opportunity to get to know one another better. Our new committee system provides an opportunity for all of our lodge membership to be involved in the planning process, so if you are interested in shaping the events of our lodge, please see your Chapter Chief. At the March meeting, we will focus on developing a plan for meeting the requirements for the Quality Lodge Recognition. Last year, we missed meeting of a few a these goals because of some misunderstandings. On Friday evening, we will attempt to clear up some of these issues. In addition, we will continue planning for upcoming events, which include this summer's Ordeals, NOAC, the Lodge Recognition Dinner in August, and the Section Conclave and Lodge Fellowship in September and October. We will need plenty of help with these events, so again, please ask your Chapter Chief where you can be of service. Finally, continue to keep your pledge of selfless service paramount in your daily lives. We are the senior Scout leadership in this council, and we must set the example. Camping Brothers, I would like to commend everyone who helped with the Council Dinner. With everyone s help, the dinner was a complete success. In order to help retain possession of the Bald Eagle this coming conclave, the camping committee needs to do its part in the competitions. The only way this can happen is if we get more people to join the camping committee and help with the cause. We are also looking for a dedicated few OA members to take photos of the different camps and activities coming up. The camp promotion booth is ready to be loaned out to people who are interested. I also ask that the Where Troops are Going to Summer Camp survey forms that were a part of each election be turned into me as soon as possible. We are still accepting applications for camper ships. Applications are in the last issue of the Squawks, or I can get you one as soon as possible. For information on how to get on the camping committee, to become the camping committee s photographer, to rent out the camp promotions booth, to turn in the survey forms, or to get a campership application, me at mecki_mania@hotmail.com or call me at (916) Yours in Brotherhood, Sean Gaffney Vice Chief of Camping Indian Lore The Indian Lore Committee is off to a good start. At the last lodge meeting committee member went trough a general Indian Lore workshop and made Indian Fry Bread. At the next lodge meeting the committee will break into two sub-committees, one for dancing and one for ceremonies. Five Arrowmen attended the Pow Wow. They were Brian and Tim Wilkinson, Ryan and Rex Starr, and adult Kim Wilkinson. Tim won a T-shirt in the raffle. All members danced grass except for Rex. There were three drums in attendance, with the lead drum being the American River Singers. The next Pow Wow is in April. For more information contact Charles Todd at (530) or via at coat@jps. net Communication Hello brothers, I m looking for some people that could help me to establish a publications committee. I would hope that all members of this committee would be the V.C. of Communication for their Chapter. This committee would help to form the chapter articles and other assignments. I would hope that all members of the committee would have access to a computer. All members of this committee would be asked to go to the LCOC (Lodge Council of Chiefs) meeting.
