4 Introducing Faith in Action A New Model for a New Age Surge with Service has been the Battle Cry for the Knights of Columbus for nearly 50 years. This new Columbian Year, Supreme is Proud to introduce Faith In Action, which arrived on July 1 st, and it brings with it a new focus on faith, family, community and life to councils worldwide. The first change of this kind since 1971, the model more fully integrates Christ-centered family programs into daily council activities. Faith In Action is straightforward and easy to implement. It provides all Knights the opportunity to do what they do best: stand shoulder to shoulder as a force for good in their home, parish, community and the world. Faith In Action is more simple for councils, and it makes clear the roles and requirements of all Supreme Council-recommended programs. It offers a stronger call to action, better inspiring our Brother Knights to lead their families and parishes in quality, faith-filled family programs. The new model takes its inspiration from the Domestic Church program, which focuses on creating dynamic parish-based Councils. Likewise, spiritual renewal is at the center of the new model, especially the renewal of family, council and parish life. Understand that a parish-based Council is not necessarily a Council who meets at a Church or Parish, but it is simply a Council that understands and recognizes that one of its most important and primary rolls is to support and serve the Parish or Parishes that it belongs to. It is divided into four categories of programs: Faith, Family, Community and Life. They represent our main priorities as an Order: The primary goal is to strengthen our men and their families in the Catholic faith. It also emphasizes the vital role that a devout and loyal family plays in modern society. Additionally, a critical part of our mission as Knights is to spread a spirit of charity and service throughout our community. Finally, both as Knights of Columbus and as followers of Christ, we have an obligation to be committed to the defense of life in all its stages and in every condition (St. John Paul II). A council may develop and conduct any program that makes a difference in their parish or community. However, the Supreme Council does recommend 32 programs eight for each category. Habitat for Humanity, March for Life, Special Olympics and the Ultrasound Program. Below is a list of the different Programs: FAITH COMMUNITY FAITH: Refund Support Vocations Program (RSVP)* Into the Breach Global Marian Icon Prayer Program Building the Domestic church Kiosk Rosary Program Spiritual Reflection Program New Holy Hour New Sacramental Gifts New FAMILY: Food for Families* Family of the Month/Year Keep Christ in Christmas Family Fully Alive Family Week Consecration to the Holy Family Family Prayer Night New Good Friday Family Promotion New COMMUNITY: Coats for Kids* Wheelchair Mission* Habitat for Humanity* Disaster Preparedness Free Throw championship Catholic citizenship Essay contest Soccer challenge Helping Hands NewAMILY L LIFE Marches for Life* Special Olympics* Ultrasound Program* Christian Refugee Relief Silver Rose Mass for People with Special Needs New Pregnancy center Support New Novena for Life New Some of these Programs may be familiar to you, and they should be. Councils have been participating in many of these Programs for years. But some of them are new, as indicated. Let s take the time to explore these Programs and see which ones can and will fit into our Council and Parish life. For more information on Faith in Action, go to WWW. KOFC.ORG, Click on For Members in the upper right, than scroll to KnightLine. Select June/July. We encourage all Brother Knights to explore this new initiative and look for Programs that you feel may be beneficial to our Council. Feel free to discuss or present these Programs or ideas with the Council Officers and Grand Knight at the monthly Officers Meeting to see how they feel about it, and if they think it might be something doable, or something that they feel the Council is capable of doing. Remember, we are known through our works. Saint James tells us faith by itself isn t enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless, he also said I will show you my faith by my good deeds. We are all men of Faith, and let us please God by embracing his call for us to help and serve one another by embracing these Programs and carrying out the First Principe of our Order, Charity.
