2 2 A Word from Our Pastor Dear FBC Pelham Faith Family, These last few weeks have truly been amazing and encouraging here at FBC Pelham. On the first night of our new Wednesday night schedule there were 476 individuals on the church campus! That was a GREAT start! If you have not yet participated in our mid-week Gathering, let me encourage you to join us this Wednesday at 6:15 PM. There is something for the entire family. On August we hosted a Marriage Conference for 109 couples. God moved in a powerful way. Marriages were strengthened and two individuals gave their lives to the LORD!!! Our August Discovery class was also a tremendous success. The LORD added 17 people to the church through that ministry and you can see their pictures in this newsletter and begin putting names and faces together. On Sunday, August 19 we launched the beginning of 26 D- Groups and they are going extremely well. The reports we are getting include: This is exactly what I have needed for a long time More people showed up for my group than signed up In week 1 the men in my group already opened up and the tears flowed. May the LORD use these groups to grow us, strengthen us, encourage us, and sharpen us. In Proverbs 27:17 we read, As iron sharpens iron so one man sharpens another. Our purpose is Making Disciples for Global Impact. May the LORD use these ministries to build an army of disciples that will turn the world upside down for His Glory. In September be praying for our team on mission to Peru (September 1-8). Also prayerfully participate in our church-wide Deacon Elections on Sunday, September 16. In addition, ask the LORD how much he wants you to contribute toward the Myers-Mallory State Missions Offering. Throughout the state of Alabama the goal is $1,000,000 and here at FBC Pelham our church goal is $3500. During this month we will wrap up our seven-week sermon series entitled The Making of a Disciple, observe the LORD S Supper on September 23, and begin a new sermon series studying the Gospel of Mark. These are exciting days and I am delighted that you are here so we can share them together. Have a blessed week! See you soon!!! Your Pastor and Friend, Daven
3 Student Ministry 3 Children s Ministry Our new School year is well underway! All our children are settling into their new Sunday School classes, and we are looking forward to some additional changes on Sunday mornings. Beginning September 9th, our 9:15 Kids Church Worship Service will relocate to the 3rd Floor, Room 317. This is for all 1st-5th Graders. Wigglin Worship for 3K-5K will continue to meet on the 2nd Floor in Room 220 at 10:45. This change allows us to create dynamic separate spaces for our Preschoolers and Elementary age children. Be sure to stop by and see the transformations! This month, we will have a Family Fun Night in the Annex on Friday, September 21st at 6:30, and a CREW Mission Trip on Sunday, September 23rd after church. Come eat some pizza and join us as we evangelize in the community and invite our neighbors to Fall Festival. We have a full schedule of activities on Sunday and Wednesday evenings for all ages. Choir from 5:30-6:15, and CREW from 6:15-7:30. Come join the fun! - Jonathan Williams

I preceded to ask her if she knew what that meant and if she tried getting back into bed and getting out on the right side. Our conversation lead me to ponder if it could really be as simple as getting back into bed and starting over. Well, that depends on a lot of factors. Irritability or mood swings can be caused by physical or environmental factors. Our mood serves as a gauge to what is occurring internally. For example, when coming down with a cold our mood deepens into feeling low and sometimes being irritable. While moodiness can be a symptom of physical issues, it can Is It a Sin to Be Irritable? also be symptomatic of our beliefs or how we view certain events. All of which we have some degree of control as we can choose how we respond during those times. Unfortunately we are not the only victims of our irritability or moodiness unless we isolate ourselves so that we don t spread our irritation around. Is it a sin to be irritable? Consider that selfishness may be at the root of irritability. We can become irritable if we are tired and aren t allowed to rest, interrupted and not treated respectfully, sick and having to continue to function, fearful and not protected, or wanting something but having to wait. Both the mood, which is fueled by our beliefs, and the response, which is fueled by our mood, can be a gauge of our failure to trust God. This is compounded by our behavior which may come across as unloving, demanding, disrespectful or failing to value others. Author Jon Bloom states Jesus didn t die for our punctuality, earthly reputation, convenience or leisure. He died for our souls and it is likely the worth of the soul we are irritable with is infinitely more precious to God than the thing we desire. While self control and changing bad habits is not easy, we can feel assured that we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us (Philippians 4:13). Linda Story, PhD, LMFT, LPC
