Children who are 3-6 years old are invited to participate in the worship service through the hymn following the Advent Wreath lighting. After the lighting, they will proceed (led by an usher, or parents) downstairs for childcare in our Nursery rooms in the lower level of the children's wing (CE building section, Room 120 ). 7 battled c anc er s inc e the age of 4. In his tim e at the hos pital, he notic ed c hildren having a diffic ult tim e with their IV polls and he had a lightbulb m om ent. Nic k's idea was to build IV pole "lily pads," a s kateboard-like devic e that allows patients to get around the hos pital eas ier. His plan was to us e tim e in his s hop c las s to build one for every c hild at the hos pital, but he never got the c hanc e. In February 2 015, Nic k died after a long battle with leukem ia and a c hildhood brain tum or. He was jus t 17. And though he was n't even able to c om plete the lily pad project him s elf, s tudents at his high s c hool gathered to honor their c las s m ate and finis h the project, with s om e help from the art and des ign c las s es joining in to paint eac h lily pad by hand. Now c hurc hes, c las s room s and other people all over the c ountry are c ontinuing to honor Nic k by c ons truc ting and donating Lily Pads to local hos pitals. Page Turners Book Cl ub The Page Turners will m eet Monday, January 2 2 at 7:00 p.m. in the c hurc h parlor. We will be dis c us s ing the book A G entlem an In Mos c ow by Am or Towles. A G entlem an in Mos c ow im m ers es us in an elegantly drawn era with the s tory of Count Alexander Ros tov. When, in , he is deem ed an unrepentant aris tocrat by a Bols hevik tribunal, the c ount is s entenc ed to hous e arres t in the Metropol, a grand hotel ac ros s the s treet from the Krem lin. Ros tov, an indom itable m an of erudition and wit, has never worked a day in his life, and m us t now live in an attic room while s om e of the m os t tum ultuous decades in Rus s ian his tory are unfolding outs ide the hotel's doors. Unexpectedly, his reduc ed c irc um s tanc es provide him a doorway into a m uc h larger world of em otional dis c overy.
