1 PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND LORD S PRAYER Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the Kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. ~ Amen. Sharing the Bread and the Cup As directed by the ushers, please come forward, take a piece of bread, dip it in the cup and partake. Servers are available to bring Communion to those who wish to remain in their seats. Gluten-free crackers are available in each basket. PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION All: Generous and sustaining God, with Your church in heaven and on earth, we give thanks for this meal we share. May the bread of heaven sustain us, and give us courage to live as the saints, faithfully, lovingly and abundantly. 2 GATHERING WITH PRAISE PRELUDE Cool Saints Arr. By Paul Nagel FIRST THOUGHT I am not a saint, unless you think of a saint as a sinner who keeps on trying. Nelson Mandela One: The Lord be with you. All: And also with you. *CALL TO WORSHIP One: For the saints who have kept the faith in every age; All: We give our thanks today. One: For the saints, whose memory inspires us; All: We pray for their courage and their faith. One: For the saints, whose names are written on our hearts; All: We offer our gratitude and we remember. One: Since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us worship God with joy! OPENING HYMN Rejoice in God s Saints [pp. 6, 11] *PRAYER OF THE DAY WELCOME Welcome! Whoever you are, wherever you come from and whatever you have done or failed to do, welcome to this place where we celebrate the love of God and are inspired by the hospitality of Jesus Christ. May you find God s love, peace and grace as we worship together. CALL TO CONFESSION ASSURANCE OF PARDON One: Friends, hear the good news of the Gospel. All: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. *ACT OF PRAISE [364 V. 1] I sing a song of the saints of God, Patient and brave and true, Who toiled and fought and lived and died For the Lord they loved and knew. And one was a doctor and one was a queen, And one was a shepherdess on the green; They were all of them saints of God, and I mean, God helping, to be one too. PRAYER OF ILLUMINATION MINUTE FOR STEWARDSHIP CHANCEL CHOIR PROCLAIMING THE WORD Tony Aiello Let the People of God Go Singing by Ken Medema SCRIPTURE Matthew 22:34-40 [N.T. p. 25] HOMILY RESPONDING TO THE WORD Rev. Gillian Weighton LITANY OF SAINTS AND CANDLE LIGHTING [pp. 8-9] OFFERING/OFFERTORY Rev. Steven Fringer Beloved God, who was known to our mothers and fathers, and to all the saints who have gone before us, have mercy on us. We do not always love as you would have us love. We do not always do as you would have us do. In our stubbornness, we turn from you when we should turn toward you. Hold us, dear God, in the warmth of Your embrace. Comfort us when we mourn the passing of friends and family, and help us to know that they are rejoicing in your presence. We praise you for the grace you shower on us, constantly forgiving our errors, especially the ones that we don t share with any but you. Hear now the silent fears and worries of our hearts. ~ Amen PRAYER OF CONFESSION (Let us continue to pray in silence.) *DOXOLOGY Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; praise Him, all creatures here below; Praise Him above ye heavenly host. Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost. ~ Amen SACRAMENT OF HOLY COMMUNION Invitation to the Table The Table at First Presbyterian is open to all. The film is called The Lunch Date. It's a timeless 18-minute parody on an earlier era. Think swing and train stations and shopping. And then add food and an unexpected relationship that demands negotiation. In addition to bringing yourself, please bring a potluck item (i.e., salad, soup or chili, sandwiches, chips, dessert) to share. We'll provide the plates, bowls, beverages, and utensils. RSVP to Shelley in the church office by calling Questions? Please Pat Badger at: pbadger@prairieschool.com First Presbyterian is putting on our last Community Meal of 2017 on Tues., Nov. 21 st.
