1 NEWSLETTER JUNE 2012 Special points of interest: YOU can go to Heaven Summer Fun News Jimmy McMillian, Pastor 849 South Davis Road LaGrange, Georgia Church Newsletter June 2012 One day Jesus was telling the disciples about the need to repeatedly forgive repentant sinners. The disciples came back with sincere yet comical response. Inside this issue: Summer Fun News 2 3 Take heed to yourselves: If thy brother trespass against thee, rebuke him; and if he repent, forgive him. 4 And if he trespass against thee seven times in a day, and seven times in a day turn again to thee, saying, I repent; thou shalt forgive him. 5 And the apostles said unto the Lord, Increase our faith. Don t you just love it???? Jesus told them to offer forgiveness seven times a day if necessary. The very thought of such radical forgiveness seemed so beyond them that all they could say was Increase our faith. 2 Page 2 Summer Fun! Let s keep each other in our prayers as the next few months take us on vacations and travel time. Praying for safe travels! Camp Rockridge Camp Rockridge is June 18th-21st and is for 8-years-old through rising 6th grade. The cost is: $ per camper. If applications are received by June 11th a $10 discount will be given, plus each camper will receive a free Camp DVD. So, please make sure we receive the application before the 11th! Applications are available on-line at: or at the association office located at 200 South Lewis Street in LaGrange, Georgia. If you have questions contact the association at: or dottie@troupbaptist.com. Winshape Camps The ultimate day camp experience! For completed 1st - 6th grades, June at Western Heights Baptist Church. Vacation Devotions Vacation Devotions and activities are a fun and interesting way to bring Christ into Family Vacations and create lifelong memories. 3 Page 3 Ministry Groups AWANA Tommy & Kim Baker - AWANA Director s Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed. Awana helps churches and parents raise children and youth to know, love and serve Christ. The Awana program is active during the school year. Awana will begin when summer is over and kids are back in school. Be sure to watch the bulletin for announcements about Awana start up.

4 Page 4 Ministry Groups continued. HUB Student Ministry Scott & Ashley DeLong - Student Minister June is a very busy month for the HUB Student Ministry. Be sure to keep them in your prayers as they head out June 8th for their mission trip to Jamaica, These events have already taken place and we re glad to announce that The HUB managed to raise almost $2,000 with both events. Thank you church for your loving support!!! 5 Page 5 Ministry Groups continued... F.A.I.T.H Riders Steve Johnson - Chaplain The FaithRiders meet each moth on the third Friday at 7:00 p.m. at the Red Rooster restaurant on West Point Road. Lighthouse Keepers Bill & Karen Fineran - Leader If you are interested in joining our group, please come to our monthly meeting for great food and fellowship on the third Monday of each month, at 5:00 p.m. This is a great group to belong to! They go on lots of outings and have wonderful dinners. Circle of Friends The Beloved Circle of Friends go to Florence Hand Nursing Home to play Bingo and visit with the residents. Karen and Bill Fineran make monthly visits. If anyone would like to come and help us, we go at 3:00 p.m. every third Thursday. On Saturday, May 26th, Roger and Teri Hammock played 12 games of Bingo with patients at Twin Fountains Nursing Home, 23 patients attended for lots of prizes and laughs. If you re interested in helping with this ministry be sure to call Roger or Teri at

6 Page 6 Ministry Groups continued... Clothes Closet Wilma Robinson - Leader The Clothes Closet continues to open each Thursday morning from 9:00-11:00 am. This past month they helped 187 people with clothes; men, women, and children. The Coat Closet will continue to take donated coats throughout the year. See Roger or Teri Hammock with any questions about the Coat Closet. Please remember the Clothes Closet when cleaning out your closets! Food Closet Merle McMillian and Robyn Arrington - Leaders The Food Closet served 674 people with boxes of food and provided 245 meals to shut ins for the month of April! The Food Closet is open Thursday s from 9:00-11:00 am. Homefolks Ministry Ministry Leader - Rondel Story We are honored to serve here where God has placed us. Thank you for loving us. Total Transports Nursing Home to family - 3 Hospital to home - 2 Out of town - 7 Local - 14 Ministry work out of town - 6 Rondel & Pat Story

7 Page 7 Ministry Groups continued... Valet Service FYI: The ushers offer valet service! If you feel that you need help parking your car or if your restricted to walking short distances, be sure to take advantage of the valet service. Your car key will be kept in a lock box and your car will be waiting for you once church service is over. Valet Service For Anyone When taking advantage of the Elks parking lot, be sure to park in designated parking spaces only. Do not park on the grass. The golf cart is also available for those needing a lift from their car to the church door. Be sure to flag down the golf cart for this service. Cookie Ministry Don t forget about the Cookie Ministry for Hospice. Hospice patients and family s truly appreciate the homemade cookies made for them to enjoy during their stay at Hospice. In some cases, they ve been the last treat some patients had the opportunity to enjoy, and when that happens we usually hear from a family member with gratitude for the ministry.

Grace to you and peace from God our father and the Lord Jesus Christ: Outreach Ministry Frank Abrahamsen - Minister Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. Matthew 5:16 May was an exciting month; so many activities God has surely blessed us. June too, will be an exciting month; Vacation Bible School will start and the Puppet Ministry. Many church members will be vacationing so be sure to be praying for them. It is wonderful to be part of a church where everyone cares one for another and as we share this love with each other God expands this love to LaGrange. Visitors come in and say what love and joy they feel in our church. This is what God wants from His church Love. 16 Souls saved this month This is POWER! LTC and Troup County Jail Ministry: For I was an hungered, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: 36 Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me. Matthew 25:35-36 LaGrange Transition Center Ministry was blessed this month with seven members being baptized. Additionally, one member had his son and father baptized with him. His father was saved at the Elks club after church service. The LTC continues to be a wonderful mission field where we can make a difference. Each soul that is saved is a result of your prayers and caring. One of our members next door has been out of LTC for a year and has been experiencing testing God with his money. To wit: The more he gives God the more God gives him. He has found that Malachi 3:10 is true You cannot outgive God. Ten souls were saved in the Troup County Jail this time period. We are afforded a wonderful opportunity to make a difference in LaGrange by preaching Jesus to the residents. This type of rehabilitation is powerful and it is the only true way for someone to change. That is, the Blood of Jesus washing them clean. Thank each of you for your prayers and continued support of this ministry. Circle of Friends: Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you. John 15:15 The Circle of Friends are Baptist Tabernacle s Warriors. We have needs in all of the 7 ministries but particularly in the ministries of Shepherds and Healers. We need Warriors who want to share God s love with their neighbors through a friendly, loving visit. If you would like to serve in the Circle of Friends please see Frank or the leader listed below. Warrior of the Month: June s Warrior of the Month award is presented to Mabel Brand. Miss Mabel is a warrior for Jesus; she faithfully reads her Bible and prays for our church members. She serves in the clothes closet where she hands out tracts about salvation; additionally, she has faithfully helped in the LTC ministry for a number of years. She truly is a blessing to Thank you Miss Mabel for being a wonderful warrior. 10 Page 10 It s all about VBS! VBS will begin on Wednesday, June 20th at 6:30 p.m. and will end on Wednesday, July 25th. Classes are available for all age groups. We need YOU to make VBS a success! Be sure to see Becky Johnson about where you can be used in VBS.

13 Page 13 You Can Go To Heaven How To Become A Christian FIRST, YOU NEED TO BE SAVED. For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. (Romans 3:23) I tell you. Nay; but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish. (Luke 13:3) SECOND, YOU CANNOT SAVE YOURSELF. Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us. (Titus 3:5) THIRD, JESUS HAS PROVIDED FOR YOUR SALVATION. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. (John 3:16) FOURTH, YOU MUST ACCEPT JESUS FOR SALVATION. Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved. (Acts 16:31) FIFTH, NOW IS THE TIME TO ACCEPT JESUS AS SAVIOR. Behold, now is the day of salvation. (II Cor. 6:2) WHAT TO DO. That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. (Romans 10:9) FINALLY, WILL YOU BOW YOUR HEAD AND PRAY THIS PRAYER? Dear Lord Jesus: I know that I am a sinner, and am headed for Hell. I am willing to turn from the sin in my life and make You the Lord and Master of my life. Forgive all my sins and come into my heart right now and save me. For I pray in Jesus Christ s name. Amen.
