1 Forgiven and Forgiving May 31, 2017 Hymns 163, 30, 19 The Bible Matt. 6:12 forgive, 13 (to :), 14 Forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. Matt. 18:7, 14 Woe unto the world because of offences! for it must needs be that offences come; but woe to that man by whom the offence cometh! Even so it is not the will of your Father which is in heaven, that one of these little ones should perish. Matt. 18:11, 15 1st if, 21, 22 For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost. If thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother. Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? Peter saith unto him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me. Simon Peter saith unto him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head. So after he had washed their feet, and had taken his garments, and was set down again, he said unto them, Know ye what I have done to you? Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for so I am. If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another s feet. For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you. If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them. Luke 5:17-26 (to 2nd,) And it came to pass on a certain day, as he was teaching, that there were Pharisees and doctors of the law sitting by, which were come out of every town of Galilee, and Judæa, and Jerusalem: and the power of the Lord was present to heal them. And, behold, men brought in a bed a man which was taken with a palsy: and they sought means to bring him in, and to lay him before him. And when they could not find by what way they might bring him in because of the multitude, they went upon the housetop, and let him down through the tiling with his couch into the midst before Jesus. And when he saw their faith, he said unto him, Man, thy sins are forgiven thee. And the scribes and the Pharisees began to reason, saying, Who is this which speaketh blasphemies? Who can forgive sins, but God alone? But when Jesus perceived their thoughts, he answering said unto them, What reason ye in your hearts? Whether is easier, to say, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Rise up and walk? But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power upon earth to forgive sins, (he said unto the sick of the palsy,) I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy couch, and go into thine house. And immediately he rose up before them, and took up that whereon he lay, and departed to his own house, glorifying God. And they were all amazed, and they glorified God, Ps. 51:2, 6, 7 wash, 8 (to ;), 10 Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom. Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. Make me to hear joy and gladness. Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. Heb. 10:16 (to make), 16 saith, 17, 22, 24, 36 This is the covenant that I will make saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them; And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more. Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water. And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise. Rev. 7:12 Blessing (to 1st.), (to ;), 17 Blessing, and glory, and wisdom, and thanksgiving, and honour, and power, and might, be unto our God for ever and ever. And one of the elders answered, saying unto me, What are these which are arrayed in white robes? and whence came they? And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. Therefore are they before the throne of God, and serve him day and night in his temple: and he that sitteth on the throne shall dwell among them. They

3 shall hunger no more, neither thirst anymore. For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes. II Pet. 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. And Love is reflected in love; And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil; And God leadeth us not into temptation, but delivereth us from sin, disease, and death. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. For God is infinite, all-power, all Life, Truth, Love, over all, and All. SH 265:23-24, Who that has felt the loss of human peace has not gained stronger desires for spiritual joy? The loss of earthly hopes and pleasures brightens the ascending path of many a heart. The pains of sense quickly inform us that the pleasures of sense are mortal and that joy is spiritual. SH 8:3-6, 7, it We never need to despair of an honest heart; but there is little hope for those who come only spasmodically face to face with their wickedness and then seek to hide it. They hold secret fellowship with sin, and such externals are spoken of by Jesus as like unto whited sepulchres... full... of all uncleanness. It is wise not to try to deceive ourselves or others, for there is nothing covered that shall not be revealed. SH 6:11-12, 23-24, To cause suffering as the result of sin, is the means of destroying sin. Jesus uncovered and rebuked sin before he cast it out. It is believed by many that a certain magistrate, who lived in the time of Jesus, left this record: His rebuke is fearful. SH 7:1-2, 6 The only civil sentence which he had for error was, Get thee behind me, Satan. The relinquishment of error deprives material sense of its false claims. SH 8:28-32; 9:2-3 We should examine ourselves and learn what is the affection and purpose of the heart, for in this way only can we learn what we honestly are. If a friend

4 informs us of a fault, do we listen patiently to the rebuke and credit what is said? During many years the author has been most grateful for merited rebuke. SH 9:11 If selfishness has given place to kindness, we shall regard our neighbor unselfishly, and bless them that curse us; but we shall never meet this great duty simply by asking that it may be done. There is a cross to be taken up before we can enjoy the fruition of our hope and faith. SH 322:26-10 The sharp experiences of belief in the supposititious life of matter, as well as our disappointments and ceaseless woes, turn us like tired children to the arms of divine Love. Then we begin to learn Life in divine Science. Without this process of weaning, Canst thou by searching find out God? It is easier to desire Truth than to rid one s self of error. Mortals may seek the understanding of Christian Science, but they will not be able to glean from Christian Science the facts of being without striving for them. This strife consists in the endeavor to forsake error of every kind and to possess no other consciousness but good. Through the wholesome chastisements of Love, we are helped onward in the march towards righteousness, peace, and purity, which are the landmarks of Science. Beholding the infinite tasks of truth, we pause, wait on God. SH 202:3 The scientific unity which exists between God and man must be wrought out in life-practice, and God s will must be universally done. SH 2:15-16 Prayer cannot change the Science of being, but it tends to bring us into harmony with it. SH 4:3-5 What we most need is the prayer of fervent desire for growth in grace, expressed in patience, meekness, love, and good deeds. SH 9:32 Consistent prayer is the desire to do right. Prayer means that we desire to walk and will walk in the light so far as we receive it, even though with bleeding footsteps, and that waiting patiently on the Lord, we will leave our real desires to be rewarded by Him. SH 201:17-18 The way to extract error from mortal mind is to pour in truth through floodtides of Love. SH 2:23-25 God is Love. Can we ask Him to be more? God is intelligence. Can we inform the infinite Mind of anything He does not already comprehend?

5 SH 167:17 To have one God and avail yourself of the power of Spirit, you must love God supremely. SH 91:5 Let us rid ourselves of the belief that man is separated from God, and obey only the divine Principle, Life and Love. Here is the great point of departure for all true spiritual growth. SH 138:29-2 Love Love thy neighbor as thyself! It was this theology of Jesus which healed the sick and the sinning. It is his theology in this book and the spiritual meaning of this theology, which heals the sick and causes the wicked to forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts. SH 6:3-5 Divine Love corrects and governs man. Men may pardon, but this divine Principle alone reforms the sinner. SH 340:9 Let Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: love God and keep His commandments: for this is the whole of man in His image and likeness. Divine Love is infinite. Therefore all that really exists is in and of God, and manifests His love. SH 266:13-18, (to 1st.); 267:15, (to.) Friends will betray and enemies will slander, until the lesson is sufficient to exalt you; for man s extremity is God s opportunity. The author has experienced the foregoing prophecy and its blessings. Thus He teaches mortals to lay down their fleshliness and gain spirituality. This is done through self-abnegation. Mortals must follow Jesus sayings and his demonstrations, which dominate the flesh. Perfect and infinite Mind enthroned is heaven. The evil beliefs which originate in mortals are hell. Man is the idea of Spirit; he reflects the beatific presence, illuming the universe with light. Jesus said: For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother. The robes of Spirit are white and glistering, like the raiment of Christ. Even in this world, therefore, let thy garments be always white. Blessed is the man that endureth [overcometh] temptation: for when he is tried, [proved faithful], he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.
