2 From Our Deep Thinker A man asked, Where was the Declaration of Independence signed? His friend answered, At the bottom, silly! When asked by his Sunday school teacher if he prayed before dinner, the boy answered, Nope, my mom s a real good cook!

3 Three-Year Capital Campaign and Annual Budget Campaign On an annual basis, our congregation asks us to promise: Our money to our church s annual budget Our prayers Our presence in worship Our time to certain areas of need. Our work on a committee: Worship, Membership, Property, Christian Education, Finance or World Outreach This year we consider another commitment, a Three-Year Capital Campaign. (It is on the back of the pledge.) God is not done with us. There is much more that we can do and a Capital Campaign allows us to follow God s vision. Are you able to give to this special fund? Your pledge ensures that we continue to be the church that God calls us to be. Sheri Jackson, our Financial Secretary, is the only one who will see the top part of your pledge, the Annual Budget pledge on one side and the Capital Campaign on the other side. She will collect the forms, separate the top from the bottom, and give the bottom portion to the church office. I ask that you pray about this. God provides for our many needs. Let s give back with grateful hearts. We will collect these pledges on Sunday, November 6, during a special consecration moment in the worship service. An Encouraging Cup Feel free to come on down to church on Tuesday afternoons. We set up a table on the sidewalk and hand out cups of coffee, water bottles, and cookies. It is a great way to encourage the neighbors and our community. We are outside from 12:30 to 2:00 every week! Best wishes, Dexter

6 First Christian In the Know ADOPT 6 TH DISTRICT SCHOOL/ TEACHER YOU WILL FIND ALL THE I NFORMATION IN THE REAR OF CHURCH There are teacher wish lists which are numbered. When you take a list, please let Brenda Staggs know which number you took. We will collect the materials in the ladies Sunday school room (last room on the left in the classroom hall) beginning Sunday, October 16 th. When you bring the materials, please put your name and the teacher s name and number on or in the bag so the distributions can be made correctly. Prayerfully consider becoming a reader. This involves reading to a child about 30 minutes. To volunteer in this way, you must submit to a background check. The forms for this are also available in the rear of church. We will be calling on you to make treats for our teachers, so be on the lookout in the bulletin or Friday CROP Hunger Walk Details On, Sunday, October 2 at 2:00, our church will join other churches from across Cincinnati, to help raise money for hunger. 75% goes to Church World Service and 25% goes to local food projects (St. George Food Pantry, Family Promise, and Henry Hosea House). How can you help? Please consider giving. You can donate online by choosing our church s name at Or you can donate to the church directly and make sure your check or cash says CROP Hunger Walk. Also, we need people to walk that day. It is an easy three-mile walk, starting from our church at 2:00. It goes into Cincinnati and back again. Or there is a shorter one-mile option. It is a lot of fun! The weather will be amazing that day. And we bring more attention to the cause when we have more walkers. Prayer Buddies Worship & Wonder School is back in session and our young people are back on schedule as well. Prayerfully consider taking part in an important ministry for them: prayer buddies and worship & wonder. Being a prayer buddy means praying for a particular young person, remembering their special days, and maybe even chaperoning a fun event. Volunteering for Worship & Wonder means greeting and leading Sunday school. The materials are all preplanned for you. What a wonderful thing to lead our youngsters closer to Christ.
