1 The Innovator July/August 2012 NEWS Join us for a Renewing Faith Hike on July 1 Jesus said, "Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you'll recover your life. I'll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won't lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you'll learn to live freely and lightly." Matthew 11:28-30 On Sunday, July 1, Pastor James will lead a renewing faith hike. We will meet in the south end of the parking lot at 10:40am and car pool to Katherine Abbott Park in Mahtomedi. We will discuss how to heighten our God perception while hiking, and then choose from a short easy hike or a longer moderate hike. We will all end at the same place to reflect and share God sightings, and close our time with prayer. VBS IS COMING! July :30pm-8:00pm Register in the Gathering Space Everyone is welcome! Volunteers wanted Come join us for some high flying fun! There will be games, music, drama, food, fun, singing, and much more! North Church is 125 years old. To help celebrate North Church s125th anniversary, we would like to put together an exhibit of church memorabilia. If you have any items that we could use, such as old hymnals, bibles, directories, church cookbooks, annual reports, newspaper articles, pictures, old commemoratives, or anything pertaining to North Church, we would love to share them with the congregation. Please include information about the article and be sure to label it with your name so it may be returned to you. Items may be dropped off at church between now and September 1, Thank You, The Celebration Task Force

3 Sunday Coupon Flyers Wanted to Help Store to Door! I have recently volunteered with the Store to Door non-profit organization. The mission of Store to Door is "enhancing opportunities for aging adults to live independently". Store to Door does this by shopping and delivering grocery orders to seniors that are unable to get out of their homes. HERE'S WHERE YOU CAN HELP! Please donate your Sunday coupon flyers (P&G, SmartSource, Red Plum). After you have clipped the Sunday coupons you will use, bring the remaining flyer coupons to North. A bin will be placed near the food shelf cart to collect them. Please bring coupon flyers...no need to cut any coupons. (We cannot redeem any store-specific coupons.) I will pick up the flyers and see that they get to our Store to Door coupon-clipper team. If you have any questions about couponing or about Store to Door, I'd be happy to discuss them with you. THANKS! Mary Morrisette Showboat Adventure Save the date for your adventure on the Showboat this summer. It will be Saturday afternoon, August 11. Show time is 2:30, but we need to be there by 2:00. Tickets are $19.00 each. We have rows C, D, and a few in E. We have the option to go to Joseph's before for lunch at 12:30. This year's melodrama is "Vampire!" The sign up sheets are in the Gathering Space. Financial Assistance for Clearwater The endowment committee and/or a few members of our congregation are eager to offer financial assistance to any member in need so they can attend camp. They are glad to invest in the blessings that abound from the camp experience. Talk to Pastor James or Bruce Beck of the Endowment Committee if your child wants to attend camp but you are short on the funds for the camp. Summer Camps at Presbyterian Clearwater Forest Clearwater offers exceptional camps year round for all ages. This great facility offers camps for individuals and families while enjoying the beauty of God's creation. Summer week long Discovery Camp (grades 3-6), Adventure Camp (grades 7-9), Retreats and Adult Camp have been favorites of several members of our congregation for years. This summer we will again have several children and youth attending a week long camp. The camps are offered throughout the summer. Information and registration can be found at Sean Bearth, Garrett Colton and Spencer & Abigail York will be attending Discovery and Adventure Camp #6, August Sarah Bearth will likely attend Camp #2 July Talk to Pastor James if you would like to carpool and attend with others from our church this summer.

4 Synod School 2012 Join Pastor James, Spencer and Abigail as they attend their seventh Synod School. The worship is inspiring, the classes are spiritually nourishing, the fellowship is exceptional and there are many fun activates and crafts, all on a beautiful campus. Over fifty classes are offered for adults. Children and youth have their own special classes, worship and fellowship. Pastor James will join a wonderful faculty and will be working with the youth. Spencer and Abigail are eager to attend again. Please consider joining the York family this summer for Synod School July at Buena Vista University, Storm Lake Iowa. 5 Thank You Dear North Congregation, I want to thank you for your shawl and all the prayers while I was recovering from my illness. I am feeling so much better now and have been given a clean bill of health from my doctor. Sincerely, Steve Dalquist Dear North Church, Thank you for donating 96 pounds of food items in May to the North St. Paul Food Shelf. Because of the generosity of your congregation, along with other churches in the area, we have been able to serve between 310 and 370 families a month and given out over 30,000 pounds of food a month. Sincerely, Dave and Linda Zick To Our North Church Family, We would like to thank you for your love, concern, and support shown to us during this time of our sorrow due to the death of our son Chuck. Also, a special thank you to Pastor James, Lisa, and Aaron for making Chuck's memorial very meaningful. Sincerely, Mel and Helen Fischer Dear North Family, Many thanks to everyone who helped with the funeral for my mom, Helen Gurnon. She would have been embarrassed by all the attention, but it was a beautiful service with a joyful message, and I'm sure she was smiling and singing along! Special thanks to Pastor James for all your help in the process and your encouraging and uplifting words; to Kim and Eric for set-up and overall coordination; to all who made and/or served desserts and cleaned up; to all who attended, sent cards, gave memorials, or just offered prayers.
