2 02 Avenue - Winter 2014 Avenue The newsletter for Quorum Business Park Winter 2014 Welcome to the Avenue Winter 2014 Edition It s was a glorious summer here at Quorum and action packed with activities to keep staff entertained in the sunshine. It was Carnival time during the Summer BBQ, with Circus performers, stalls and great food keeping staff smiling! But as the temperatures drop our events keep coming. We re looking forward to the Christmas Market and a host of events in the New Year. New tenants, Cofely and have arrived in our Q3 building and are already enjoying the Quorum experience. Sport lovers enjoyed the Quorum Games, our new Rugby sessions and even a visit from the Premiership Trophy! We are hugely excited to share news of Pure Gym arriving in the park in the New Year. 3 Avenue - Winter July Events Quorum gets into carnival spirit at the Summer BBQ The Quorum Summer BBQ was bigger than ever in 2014 with an exciting carnival for added entertainment!!! It was a fire-breathing, stilt-walking circus extravaganza, all right here at Quorum!!! "we wanted to really make an impact: the atmosphere on the day was electric and there was something for everyone and the glorious weather definitely helped"... There were dancers, circus entertainers, a circus workshop, fire-breathers, stilt walkers, live music from the North Tyneside Steel Band, FREE fairground stalls including a Coconut Shy and a Test you Strength and free games! Quorum split this event into two parts, one at Lunchtime between and 2.30 and one after work event from 4pm onwards. Everyone enjoyed delicious food, drinks and entertainment with the mouth-watering BBQ provided by BBQ goers also enjoyed drinks served up by the Hub team. Quorum Events and Sustainability Manager, Laura Barber said The summer BBQ rounded off a busy July in the Quorum Events Calendar with so much going on across the park we wanted to really make an impact: the atmosphere on the day was electric and there was something for everyone and the glorious weather definitely helped!

4 04 Avenue - Winter 2014 Quorum Welcomes Cofely 200 Cofely will create up to new local jobs over the next 18 months following its move August Tenants Cofely s new shared service centre at Quorum Business Park in north Newcastle was officially opened by Norma Redfearn, the Elected Mayor of North Tyneside. The new office will create up to 200 new jobs on the park. Cofely CEO Wilfred Petrie was also in attendance and commended Quorum on a fabulous working environment. Barclays Workplace Banking Services Bring the Premiership Trophy to Quorum! Cofely, a GDF SUEZ company are a leading provider of integrated and energy services. The multi-national business, which employs over 15,000 here in the UK with a turnover of 1 billion, has made a strategic decision to move a number of its company functions into a new shared services centre at Quorum. The new centre will provide customer support and internal services across operations at all of its UK locations. Having reviewed different parts of the country, Cofely decided to invest at Quorum, where it has taken the 26,000 sq ft office Building Q3. The move follows Cofely s recent acquisitions of Balfour Beatty WorkPlace, and Lend Lease FM, both facilities management businesses. This has substantially grown the company s footprint nationally and in the North East. The new location at Quorum has seen around 50 existing staff relocate from their present locations in the region together with up to an additional 200 new local jobs created over the next 18 months following its move. The jobs will be across a range of skill sets, covering different levels within the company. David Hughes, Head of Shared Services from Cofely, said: The move will put Cofely in a better position to support the increased demands of our enlarged business and enable future growth. The North East offers a great investment opportunity for businesses such as ourselves who are looking to relocate and further their development. Fergus Trim, Director at Quorum said: We are thrilled to welcome Cofely to Quorum and see the creation of a significant number of new jobs on site. We are seeing an increase in Northshoring projects of this type, and hopefully the skilled workforce and attractive business environment on Tyneside will encourage other large businesses to look at the City. July Events Quorum hosted a visit from the Premier League Trophy, in association with Barclay's Workplace Banking, which was onsite to mark the closing of the annual Quorum Games a three-week long programme of sporting events that saw companies battle it out to win gold. To mark the occasion, Newcastle s very own Monty and Maggie Magpie and Sunderland Mascots Sampson and Delilah were on hand to guard the goals in an intense penalty shootout, letting competitive tenants try their luck at scoring a screamer past their opposing team s mascot for a small charitable donation. All proceeds were split evenly between both of the clubs respective youth charities, Newcastle United Foundation and Sunderland s Foundation of Light. Courtesy of its Workplace Banking, a hot desk banking advice service provided to workers on the park, Barclays facilitated the exclusive Premier League Trophy s visit on site, with staff invited to have a photo taken alongside the Trophy. Quorum events manager Laura Barber said: We were very excited to secure a visit from the Premiership Trophy, Quorum has a history of supporting and promoting sports activities across the park and we knew this would go down a storm with staff. The addition of raffle prizes really created a buzz across the park and helped raise an impressive charity donation.

5 Avenue - Winter Swim.Bike.Run: Team Quorum take second place in the Newcastle Triathlon, Corporate Challenge. July Events The Sprint Triathlon consisted of: 750m A team of budding Quorum triathletes have completed the Newcastle Triathlon. The Sprint Triathlon consisted of a 750m Swim, 24km bike ride and a 6km run and took place in Woodhorn Park in Ashington on Saturday 19th July. 24km Team Quorum was made up of Development Director, Fergus Trim, Events and Sustainability Manager, Laura Barber, Facilities Manager, Jamie Baldridge, NEFit Bootcamp Instructor, Adam Hitchings and Balfour Beatty s Neil Sim with support from Quorum letting agent, Knight Franks Paddy Matheson. Events and Sustainability Manager, Laura Barber said We re all delighted with our results, we ve been training hard all summer and really enjoyed the day. As a less than confident swimmer I had been dreading the open water swim but it turned out to be my favourite event! 6km Falconry Day s Bird of Prey Display August Sustainability Winner Lee McCutcheon dressed as Teenage Ninja Turtle bad guy, Krang. Convergys Halloween Fancy Dress Competition October Tenant As part of Quorum s Wildlife Day we had a wonderful opportunity to invite Falconry Days to unlock some of the mystery and allow staff to get really close to these amazing creatures and at the same time promote the sport and wellbeing of birds of prey, both in the wild and in captivity. Quorum staff enjoyed a unique falconry experience giving a rare insight into the art of falconry. We had the opportunity to get really close to, and hands on with a range of Owls, Hawks, and Falcons. Quorum Events and Sustainability Manager, Laura Barber was really excited to have Falconry Days on-site. Here at Quorum we are always looking for ways to involve staff in our lunchtime events and promote our Better Place to Work philosophy. The bird of prey display was a fun way to introduce staff to our Wildlife and Sustainability agenda in an eye catching way. Another activity on the Wildlife Day involved a Bee Breakfast where staff could try out the honey from Quorum s own bee hives. You can see a video hosted by or own bee keeper, Terry Hastings on our YouTube page: Convergys staff took part in a spooky fancy dress competition on Halloween! Staff went all out and made a huge effort with costumes ranging from more traditional costumes like witches and skeletons and more unusual choices like Mexican Day of the Dead face painting, Hell Boy and Zombies! Overall winner on the day was Lee McCutcheon who dressed as Teenage Ninja Turtle bad guy, Krang. Convergys Communications Manager, Andrea Valentine said We had a great day celebrating Halloween, as well as the Fancy dress competition we had prizes for the best pumpkin decoration and individual departments competed to decorate their work areas as spooky as possible! We all loved how unique and fun Lee s costume was and were confident he deserved 1st Prize, but he did have some stiff competition!

6 06 Avenue - Winter 2014 Let s get Festive! Over 40 local stall holders will attend this years event December Events Quorum Christmas Market is back and better than ever! On Wednesday 3rd December we ll be hosting our annual Christmas Market. This year we have over 40 local stall holders selling tasty lunch options, gorgeous gifts and treats. Every person who attends this year is offered a FREE glass of mulled wine and a mice pie to get them in the festive spirit! Our 12 days of Christmas Raffle will run with donations from all our stall holders. Prizes include a Champagne Lunch at Black Friars, a Sausage Making Course for two at the Northumberland Sausage Co, an overnight stay at Matfen Hall and a host of delicious food hampers. Stall holders include old favourites like Monsieur Crepe, Fat Friars and New Zealand Pie Company with some new faces including Deli Churros, Lazy Juggler and Let it Reign. New Quorum tenants Pure Gym will also be taking a stall, where staff can enquire about membership to their new gym. Quorum Events Manager, Laura Barber says of all the Quorum Events, the Christmas Market is my favourite, you can t help but get in the festive spirit and with this year s free treats, we think it will be better than ever! Nursery Amenities Kids First Nursery has been named the highest quality provider of childcare in the UK by Nursery World for the fourth consecutive year. 8 "it s all about the mo!" 12 free wet shaves were provided by Wilson Barbershop Co Movember Shave Down November Charity Staff at Quorum Business Park are raising funds for men s health this October for The Movember Foundation, which challenges men to bring the moustache back during November. On Friday 31 October, the Q9 reception area was transformed into a pop up barbershop, courtesy of Gosforth based Wilson Barbershop Co, who provided free express wet shaves for 12 Movember participants across the park to de-fuzz ahead of the challenge. Appointments were booked in 20 minute slots with drop in sessions in between. A number of Movember goodies and literature about Men s Health was handed out in the waiting area. Once Movember is fully underway, Quorum s Mo Quo Team will keep in touch with participants and chart their progress through to a Movember closing party at the end of the month where prizes will be awarded for the best, and worst, efforts. Founder and owner of Wilson Barbershop Co, Robyn Wilson, said: Being a barbershop with a male-only clientele, we re constantly surrounded by beardy blokes, so we re really excited about Movember this year; it s all about the mo! As well as fundraising at the Quorum shave event the shaves are free but we ll be accepting donations we re also running 10k at the MoRunning event at Exhibition Park on November 9th. We re hoping to raise over 500 for the Movember cause, and we re sure we can smash this with the help of our amazing clients! Quorum Games Results The Quorum games ran for three weeks in June and July with companies from across the park competing in 9 different sporting tournaments.
