Purpose This report is to inform the Ward on community development activities. Requests for Financial Assistance [CDV ] The Waihi Ward Committee has an allocation of $8, for discretionary grants during this 2012/13 financial year. Andrew Balchin [ ] Andrew Balchin, a year 12 student of Waihi College has been given the opportunity to sail on the Spirit of Adventure on the 15 th December this year. This voyage around New Zealand gives an opportunity for Mr. Balchin to build interpersonal skills such as teamwork and leadership. Mr. Balchin has been fundraising and looking for sponsorships to cover the $1800 cost to secure his position on the ship. Mr. Balchin seeks financial assistance from the Ward to assist with this cost. Echo Walking Festival [ ] A representative for the Enjoy Connecting Hills and Oceans (ECHO) Walking Festival committee has written seeking support for the festival to be held during March The committee requests $750 that will go towards brochure printing costs. The Committee is planning to promote active healthy lifestyles with the emphasis on showcasing and enjoying some of the region s most beautiful countryside. The festival will have the support and participation of the South Waikato sports coordinator. Waihi Community Youth Trust [ ] Members of the Waihi community are setting up an entity that will focus on developing a youth centre in Waihi. The centre will provide a safe haven free from violence, drugs and alcohol, and will hold programmes such as Home work space, breakfast club, school holiday programmes, cafe night, movie nights etc. The members request funding to cover the first twelve months of operations namely rental, insurance, telecommunications, power, resources and staff costs. Waihi Bowling Club [ ] The green keeper of the club writes requesting financial assistance towards the cost of maintaining their playing green. The writer also advises the number one green has been subsiding in one corner for over 100 years. 3 This season the club has laid 11.5 metres of topsoil over the green. The writer has attached copies of statements from the last 3 years relating to the purchase of material to correct the subsidence. Waihi Cherry Blossom Festival [ ] The members of the festival have written thanking the Ward members for their support and invite Councillors to attend their fundraising event to be held on 21 December. Other Business WAIHI WARD APPOINTMENTS Following the triennial general elections, Council appointments are required to the following Committees. Waihi Art Centre and Museum Association (Inc) have indicated their support for the retention of retired Councillor S G Baker as Council s representative to the Association. 10 OTHER: Not about Putting on the Band Aid on issues for Youth in Waihi Specifically targeted at the Youth in Waihi to meet their requirements / needs Complimentary of other such services ie: Waihi Resource Centre. Not a Drop In Centre About providing facilities / services that we have canvassed the local Youth in Waihi directly. Its about being Proactive in providing preventative & supportive measures for our Youth that does not exclude anyone.

11 ORGANISATION NAL STRUCTURE Waihi Community Youth Trust Trust set up to govern Youth Centre All Trustees to be individuals who are comm mitted to seeing a better way for Youth in Waihi through the establishment & running of a Youth Centre Waihi Community Youth Trust is currently being set up

15 Holiday Programmes The Youth that were canvassed made numerous suggestions for ideas for Holiday Programme activities, from day trips out of Waihi to Discos & Fitness Classes

16 OTHER COMMENTS: Our Own Space People we can relate to and trust A non judgmental space Multi Purpose Facility for Youth A place where we can find help if we need advice di it: eg: Counselling, somewhere to get We should spread the word out between Students / Adults

17 Other Services: Youth Transition Service Help year olds to find work and/or training. Help with CVS job search year olds Support service to those who have left school and are figuring out what to do next Monday to Friday pm. After School Support / After School Snacks Mentoring / Counselling / Career Advice Affordable & Realistic Holiday Programme not out of financial reach for Youth in Waihi.

21 INTERACTIVE COM MUNITY SERVICES This centre & its facilities / services will be key support / complimentary to other community services. Common goal to network alongside them to achieve less Youth Offending. The Centre will also aim to support Young Pe ople to feel empowered to contribute to their Community. Such services we have in mind are: Waihi Police Youth Aid Waihi Resource Centre Hauraki Violence Intervention Network Waihi College CYFS

23 FUND DING Will need initial help Start up / Seed Funding Funding in the first twelve months would be needed for the following: Building outlay / start up costs ie: Rental lease, Insurance, Telephone, Internet, Power Administrative i i ie: internet, computers, phot tocopier, paper, desks, chairs, hi couch Paint Our aim is to get the kids to paint the interior of the building to have full ownership which we believe is critical to success Staff Costs Youth Worker / Part Time Administrator both ending up to be full time then to have total of two Youth Workers.
