1 Thursday Morning Session, January 18, 2001 Participating were Rev. Odell Thompson and Brother James Smith. Scripture Call to order - Presiding Elder Rev. Dr. L. J. Thompson Organization of Conference Whom shall we have for secretary? Rev. Robert Kemp moved that we have Rev. William Dudley for secretary. Properly seconded, motion carried. A new Rules Committee was appointed, members were Rev. Mary H. Moore, Sister Ophelia Ealy and Sister Geradine Hart. Whom shall we have for assistant secretary? Sister Antoinette Rochelle moved that Sister Lillie Simmons be assistant secretary it was properly seconded, motion carried. Whom shall we have as Marshall? Sister Geradine Hart moved that Brother Osby Simmons, Jr. serve as Marshall. It was properly seconded, motion carried. Rev. Mary Moore moved that Sister Thelma Jones serve as Marshall. It was properly seconded, motion carried. Presiding Elder ruled that any minister that Presiding Elder called and he does not know where they are will be fined $ Minister's should tell a Marshall where they are so the Presiding Elder can know why they are not present. Rules Committee - Verbal report 1) Conference program be followed as printed 2) The first three rows will be the bar of the conference 3) Only registered persons can be in the bar 4) All guest be extended the amenities of the conference Elder Robert Probasco moved that the report of the Rules Committee be received and referred. It was seconded by Brother James Smith, motion carried. Whom shall we have for musician? Rev. Mary Moore moved that Brother Charles Stone serve as our Conference Musician. Seconded by Rev. Joyce Smith, motion carried. Delegates Reports: Noah's Ark Mission - Tere'sa Gantt - See report Pastor stated we have a delegate she is at home sick and is having the report delivered doc 1
2 New Life AME Zion - Brother Joe Matthews - See report. Rev. Robert Kemp stood to offer information on changes that had been made at the General conference which was that there no longer was a need for the delegate to report on return of the pastor. Presiding Elder L. J. Thompson stated that we would continue with the way we've been doing it until the changes had made it down to the conferences, district and the local levels. Brother Roland Broussard invited the conference to Pauline. Brother John Anderson rose to move that the names be closed on said invitations. It was seconded by Sister Thelma Jones. A hand vote was taken Pauline 12 and First Church 8. Pauline will be the selected place. What shall be the date of the 2002 District Conference? January 17-19, 2002 General Conference - verbal report Lay delegate, Sister Ophelia Ealy. Presiding Elder Rev. L. J. Thompson presented the new pastor of Ebenezer AME Zion church Rev. Kevin Coakley to the conference. General Conference - verbal report Ministerial delegate, Rev. Robert Kemp. Thursday Midday, Worship Service Assisting were Brother James Smith, Rev. James Purifoy, Brother James Smith Song Scripture - Habakkuk 3: 1-4 Song Song - Thank you, Lord Presiding Elder address - Verbal report With Rev. Robert Kemp presiding Sister Ophelia Ealy moved that the report of the Presiding Elder be received with thanks. Seconded by Rev. Hermon Smith motion carried with a standing ovation. Conference Treasurer - See report Rev. Robert Kemp moved that the treasurer report be received and approved. Seconded by Sister Antoinette Rochelle motion carried. Whom shall we have for treasurer? Brother Roland Broussard moved that Sister Ophelia Ealy be treasurer. Seconded by Rev. Emily Broussard motion carried. Thursday Evening Worship, Communion Service Assisting Rev James Purifoy and Sister Antoinette Rochelle The Presiding Elder along with the pastors, ministers, local preachers and combine choir processed into the sanctuary. Rev. Mary H. Moore was the worship leader for the evening. Assisting were Rev. William H. Dudley, Rev. Hermon Smith, Rev. Earline Garrett and Rev. Kevin Coakley. Thursday Evening - It was moved by Brother John Anderson that the minutes be approved with the necessary corrections properly seconded the motion carried. Call for the pastor reports. William Dudley distributed membership cards for the pastors and members of the Board of Evangelism. Board of Evangelism - Rev. Emily Broussard - Treasurer's report - See report Rev. Earline Garrett - Conference Evangelist - See report Rev. Emily Broussard - Conference Evangelist - See report Received Rev. Marva Edwards -Conference Evangelist - See report Short break was taken at this time. Friday Midday, Worship Service Assisting were Brother James Smith, Brother Martin Moody, Sister Eddie Bryant and Sister Antoinette Rochelle. Song - Blessed Assurance Scripture - Acts 27: Introduction of the speaker - Presiding Elder L. J. Thompson Song - God Cares Sermon - Rev. Melba Thomas Focus of Rev. Thomas message came from verse 44 of the scripture, which had been read. The topic was Makin it on broken pieces. Rev. Thomas discussed trials we go through and how God uses them. A thought Rev. Thomas had was Zion's trying to make it on broken pieces. Song - I going up yonder Invitation was given by Rev. Joyce Smith Offering Bishop Carr sent word that the Leadership Training will be in Sacramento, CA. Presiding Elder was moved to change our agenda so that the Holy Spirit of God might have His way. We took a moment an just talked. Sister Coleman presented the newest pastor of the conference the Rev. Kevin Coakley with a love token. Panel Discussion: On the theme Feeding God s sheep in the twenty-first century. The moderator was Rev. Robert Kemp. Assisting him were Sister Mary Coleman, Brother James Smith, Sister Antoinette Rochelle, Sister C. Joyce Clardy and Brother Joe Matthews. We had a very lively discussion on changes we could implement in our conference and worship service. Friday Evening, Worship Service Assisting were Rev. The motion carried. Reading of the minutes. Friday Morning Brother John Anderson moved that the minutes be approved with the necessary corrections. Sister Antoinette Rochelle seconded, motion approved. Friday Afternoon properly moved that the minutes be approved with the necessary corrections and properly seconded, motion was approved. Courtesy Committee Rev. Emily Broussard, Sister C. Joyce Clardy and Sister Lorraine Myles. Rev. Robert Kemp moved that the report of the courtesy committee be received and approved. It was seconded by Sister Antoinette Rochelle, motion carried. Presiding Elder L. J. Thompson discussed who Jesus was.
