1 FELLOWSHIP NEWS January February 2016 North Lake United Methodist Church * * * * * * * * * * * * * Our Purpose is to provide a Center in the community where people can gather to live out the example of Jesus Christ.. GOD WANTS YOU!! 3 opportunities to join in Bible Study at North Lake UMC. Sunday Mornings at 9:30 am Tuesday Evenings at 6:30 pm begins Jan. 26 Wednesday Mornings at 9:00 am begins Jan. 27 Make this your New Year's resolution: to dive into God's Word, and join one of the teams! North Lake United Methodist Church N. Territorial Rd. Chelsea MI Anna Moon, Pastor Sharon Wheeler, Secretary Church Office (734) John, from the Bible, wrote a book That deserves a second look. John himself was quite a fellow: Sometimes decisive, other times mellow. Some folks called him the "Son of Thunder" Because of his personality. Makes one wonder. John knew Jesus. Saw some healings. Saw him gather disciples and other dealings. Helped prepare Jesus' final meal. The agony of Jesus, John could feel. On the cross, Jesus said, "Care for my mother." John spent time praying with Jesus' brother. John knew Jesus, the miracles and strife. Who better could tell of Jesus' life? Want to know more about John...and Jesus? You have choices: Sunday at 9:30 a.m., Tuesday 7:00 p.m. or Wednesday 9:00 a.m. John's main message? Jesus is the Son of God! Submitted by David Knisely

3 Christmas Through the Years by Todd Liebenow of Creative Ministry Solutions The North Lake Puppet Team presented Christmas Through the Years, a puppet musical based on 1 John 4:10, This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. The team shared the Christmas story through various songs & dialog with a great amount of laughter, love, & joy. Team members included: Drake & Vivian, Lexi, Logan, & Megan Austin, Mason & Mallory. The congregation watching the children & youth show December 20 th. Our youth did an awesome job covering many parts and props along with assisting each other throughout our practices & presentation. We enjoyed sharing our love of Christmas with you and hope that you all have a Blessed Happy are those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or take the path that sinners tread, or sit in the seat of the scoffers; but their delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law they meditate day and night. They are like trees planted by the streams of water, which yield their fruit in its season, and their leaves do not wither. In all that they do, they prosper. -- Psalm 1: 1-3: Submitted by Diane Tandy, Children/Youth Ministry Coordinator Historical Committee Hans Leitner Occasionally an article will appear in the newsletter that highlights someone from the past who was involved in our church. This is the first of the Spotlight articles offered by the Historical Committee. And today the spotlight is on Rev. Hans Leitner, pastor of our church Rev. Leitner, a native of Germany, served as pastor for the North Lake-Salem Grove charge. In addition, he held a doctorate, was a fulltime professor at Spring Arbor College where he taught courses in Philosophy, Ethics, Problems of Mission, Bible, New Testament, Greek and German. He was a former missionary worker in Africa and was pastor of a German Methodist church in Berlin before World War II. Drafted into the German army, he was later captured. He spent three years as chaplain in prison camps in England, returning there after his release. He served as a substitute speaker for Martin Niemoeller, famous German pastor. While at North Lake, Rev. Leitner was a sought-after speaker as he related his prisoner-of-war experiences. He left here to serve a church in Oregon where he again held a full-time position at a college. There are still a few people here who remember the early fifties and Rev Leitner. Stay tuned for more amazing people who have been a part of North Lake UMC. David Knisely
4 Happy New Year, NLUMC!! As we enter a new year, I wonder if you realize how important you are to this church. Did you know that every person connected to North Lake UMC helps in some way to make this church a special place in the community? When you support the church with your presence, prayers, gifts, time, talents, and/or energy you help bring the spirit of Christianity alive in the church and surrounding area! Whether you help maintain the church buildings, plan or participate in the worship service or educational programs, help with fundraisers or activities, give to our outreach programs, or share your faith with others, you are a witness to what Jesus calls us to do with our lives. In this new year, let us continue to pray for one another and for the future of our church. We know that every act of kindness goes a long way to show others what it means to be a Christian in this chaotic world. Together, let s continue to make North Lake United Methodist Church a place in the community where people can gather to live out the example of Jesus Christ. May 2016 be a year of good health and spirituality to each of you. -Nancy McKinnon, Church Council Chairperson Trustee Corner Remodeling of bathrooms in Fellowship Hall is almost complete. The Trustees are finishing up the final touches, when times allows. We continue the work to maintain the buildings and grounds. Our next large project will be at the Parsonage. A remodel of the bathroom will hopefully take place this year. Work will be a more extensive then our work skills, so we will be looking at all our options on this project. Please let us know if you see things that should have our attention. Thank you, The Trustees Debbie Rydzon, secretary Membership Care and Outreach MCO has postponed the church directory photo sessions while we reconsider our options. I will give you more info later. In mid December North Lake church donated 7 large bags of Christmas gifts to our adopted family from Stockbridge, 3 bags of food, personal items as well as a white wool coat for general distribution. Later in December we dropped off 83 hats, mittens and scarves, 6 jars of peanut butter and one bottle of shampoo. Well done and many thanks on behalf of Stockbridge Community Outreach!
