1 Silver Gate Three Stars Lodge No. 296 Free and Accepted Masons 3795 Utah Street San Diego, CA Non-Profit Org U.S. Postage Paid Permit # 383 San Diego, CA CHANGE SERVICE REQUESTED July 2017 August 2017 September 2017 Sun Mon Tue Wed Thu Fri Sat STATED 5 MEETING HAWAIIAN SHIRTS" DARK DARK 12 Lodge Working Party / Volunteers with our Facility Coordinator (Bro Tony Bersamira) Starts at 9AM TEMPLE BOARD MEETING DARK NO D.O.S.I This Month Note: AUGUST is designated as COME TO THE LODGE month By our Grand Master
2 Greetings from the East, Worshipful Sirs and Brethren, With the exception of our stated meeting on August 4, 2017, our Lodge will be dark this month. I am hoping that you will join us in our Stated Meeting and I urge all you brethren and sisters of SGTSL to wear your favorite Hawaiian Polo/Dress. Our lodge will be dark for the rest of the month to give our Temple Board Members and Facility Coordinator, along with our brothers who sign-up to volunteer, a chance to dive into our yearly upkeep and maintenance of the building. Our Facility Coordinator, Brother Tony Bersamira is currently seeking more volunteers to sign-up and assist us in our many building maintenance projects. 12 August 2017 is designated as Volunteers and Working Party. Let s all show-up in the Lodge at 9AM What a timely reason for the Brethren to Come To The Lodge as our Grand Master proclaimed the month of August as Come To The Lodge Month. As the proclamation states Together, we will remember that when the brothers of our lodges come together to practice fellowship and engage the wisdom of each other s company, we are truly able to make a profound difference in our own lives and in the lives of those who surround us While we are talking darkness during the summer month of August, it is fitting to share what Bro Albert Mackey, an American Freemason author and historian said about "Darkness": "Darkness has, in all the systems of initiation, been deemed a symbol of ignorance, and so opposed to light, which is the symbol of knowledge. Hence the rule, that the eye should not see until the heart has conceived the true nature of those beauties which constitute the mysteries of the Order. In the Ancient Mysteries, the aspirant (candidate) was always shrouded in darkness as a preparatory step to the reception of the full light of knowledge. Brethren...The Hiram Award Annual Selection Process is just around the corner. As such, I am now accepting nominations for this year HIRAM AWARD Recipient and the deadline for submission is on Sept. 1st 2017, before our SEPTEMBER stated meeting. Please turn-in your input in essay format as early as you can so we can justifiably recognize the most deserving brother of this special award. Ensure to highlight your Hiram Award nominee s accomplishments and significant contributions to our Fraternity and most especially to our beloved lodge. Meanwhile, please take some well-deserved time off this August, enjoy your family and friends, and recharge your Masonic batteries...we ll be back at labor in due time! With much respect, admiration and gratitude, By the square, Lito Oxina, MASTER 2017 SGTSL #296
3 From the West: Worshipful Sirs/Brethren, A Westerly Wind: As we enter the month of August, it's my great aspiration to congratulate our officers for the great job they've done in initiating new brethren into the craft. They've taken a great pride in performing their assigned positions but also endeavored to do other lodge positions. Most officers also volunteered to labor in other lodges conferrals to sharpen their skills. Because of their hard work and dedication the end result provided a very positive impression to our new members which will hopefully inspire them more to be active in attending our degree conferrals. Our side liners especially our visitors have expressed their good compliments as they observed the quality of work during our conferrals. This is just a great testimony to our dedication during practice nights. As the Proverb saying goes" constant practice makes perfect". Kudos, my brothers! Lastly, I would like to extend my warmest and sincerest thanks to all the Brothers and Sisters who extended their cable tows during our last stated meeting and district picnic. Always On the Level, Bro Arthur R. Coloma Senior Warden 2017 From the South: The fathers day breakfast fund raising, July 4 th, the golf tournament, DOSI and stated meeting are history. So are the rains and now the sun is high. As the lodge schedule of activities moves into the second half, so flows the spring into summer. While it can be said that the lodge activity is now in cruising gear, summer time gets into high gear and the need for sunglasses increases. Speaking of sunglasses, be advised that not all sunglasses are the same. There are sunglasses that have gradient tint which is fashionable and classy, then there are those that are really dark with solid tint. The cost vary from $5 to $500. My recommendation is to pick those that use polarized and /or photochromic technology,i.e, Transitions, as they also filter the harmful ultraviolet wavelength of sunlight which has been identified as one of the facilitators in the formation of cataracts. Enjoy the summer breeze brethren and sisters. Once again, I would like to acknowledge the priceless contribution of our kitchen crew to the success of every event that our beloved Silver Gate Three Stars lodge is involved with. While each and every one of them vary in their efforts, they all contributed with the same level of dedication and comitment. The usual core group of Brothers Amado Supnet, Rey Cruz, Charlie Ballestamon Vic Deguzman, Ernie Bautista, as well as welcome assistance by brothers Art Coloma, and Reginald Corpuz and many sisters who will remain anonymous at this time. By the Plumb Brother Ben Llanes Junior Warden 2017
