Only eternity in the Heavenly Home can be trusted t o r evea l the spiritual value of s uch services of himse l f and of that sweet and trusted compan ion of his whose services have blended to lead many lost souls to higher spiritual vis ions of I ife and the Heaven ly Home. They are loved and admired. Julius Hen! ine, 77, pastor and noted evange list pa ssed away from our company "to forever be with the Lord", on Thursday June 7, He was ordained as a Baptist minister July 10, 1921 at the request of Beaver Creek Missionary Baptist Chu rch. From this date unti I his death years later, he was used of God in ma ny places --- fifty or more churches in Avery, Mitchel I, Yancey and McDowel I counties in North Carolina and Washington County, Tennessee, bui I ding new churches, serving as pastor t o most and one of the most effective evangelists of our ti me and area. He a l so served as moderator for the Mitchel I County Baptist Assoc iation for 19 year s. At the time of his death he was pastor of White Oak Baptist Church and Cane Creek Baptist Ch urch. His membershi~.was with the I atter. He wa s married to the forme r Mi ss Co rdi lea Buc hanan, who s urvi ves, March 5, From this union there were 8 children, five daughters and three sons. 3 REV. J. H. HENLINE Rev. J. H. He n I ine was a native of the Beaver Creek section of Mitchel I County. He was ordained at the Beaver Creek Ba ptist Church, Ju I y IO, I 921. He did not have the advantage of a hi gher education, but he was wel I blessed with natura l qua I ifications of a minister. He probably never learned "psychology" from textbooks, but he learned this lesson wel I in the school of experience. He was known for preaching short and interesting sermons. He rarely if ever preached more than 25 minutes. Rev. Hen I ine served as pastor of severa l churches in Mitchel I County and adjoining counties, and also in Washington County, Tennessee. Rev. Hen! ine served 19 times as Moderator of our ~~socat ion. He was probably best when serving as Moderator. He kept business moving with dispatch and on time.... Just now I am thinking of the following:. Rev. J. A. Gouge, Rev. Chas. G. Ellis, Rev. J. H. Henline, Let us consider them in chronological order: REV. J. A. GOUGE I first heard Rev. Gouge preach at Lily Branch Church when I was a small boy. His text on that occasion was from the book of Psalms: "If I forget thee, 0 Jerusalem, let my right hand forget her cunning, "If I do not remember thee, let my tongue cleave to the roof of my mouth; if I prefer not Jerusalem above my chief joy" - Psalms 137: verses 5 and 6. The next day he preached from a shorter text: "Take ye away the stone" - John 11:39. Rev. Gouge was a native of the Double Island section in Yancey County, where our Association originated in He later moved to Mitchell County and became a member of Lily Branch Church, where he served as pastor for many years. He served as Moderator of the A ssociation in Rev. Gouge was loved and respected by all who knew him. He was an eloquent speaker and he had a profound knowledge of Bible prophecy, especially the book of Revelation. He was always modest and unassuming. We are to act REV. CHAS. G. ELLIS Rev. Chas. G. Ellis was a native of Cane Creek section near Bakersville. He taught school for 19 years before entering the ministry. He took a lively interest in school books and became one of the outstanding teachers in Mitchell County. He carried this same spirit of enthusiasm into his work as a minister. He served as Moderator of the Association for 3 years. He also served as pastor of Lily Branch Church, Bakersville, Spruce Pine and many other places. His last work was at Maiden, N. A tired old mule, a dusty road, And the sunset in the west; With the Bible for a pillow, They then lay down to rest. Young of Boone, widow of the Rev. J. 0. Young, Mitchell County native and former Associational Missionary and pastor in the association, w as recognized. She told of plans to publish a book on the history of the Mitchell County Association which Mr. Young had near completion before his death in December The association voted to subsidize this with a gift of $300. This was accepted by the family with the understanding -that i,f a profit should be made from the sale of this book that the money be returned to the association. 23. The matter of hiring an associational worker was brought before the association by the <Moderator, Rev. Bruce Buchanan. He r eported that $8,000 was needed and $6, had already been pledged. A motion was m a de by Rev. Joe Pitman to proceed with pla ns for hiring a worker. The motion w as se<:onded by Rev. Charles Cook.
