2 2 PASTOR S PAGE Back to skool?? As you may know, I recently attended a two week session in Ohio for Course of Study. It s been awhile since I ve experienced all the uncertainties of school s first day: wondering where the classrooms are, hoping I d brought the right supplies, and fearing that my instructor is boring and ineffective. I m happy to say that none of my fears were founded, but that s often the case with life s fears, isn t it? Having dealt with my fears, I then had to deal with another foe: my pride. I don t know about you, but I often walk into the classroom with a swagger, as if I m the brightest student that this teacher has ever seen and surely once this is recognized by the teacher, I ll be given instant credit for the class. Usually I m reminded of how little I actually know within the first 30 minutes of class, leaving me feeling embarrassed and sheepish about my attitude for the remainder of class. But once my fear and pride are set aside, then real learning takes place, even at my age..and guess what?? Even at YOUR age too! Every week our Church service includes the words Speak Lord, for your servant is listening. I suspect that you, like me, need to set aside things that prevent hearing what God s Spirit has to say to us. We all have things to learn, we all still have growing to do. This Fall, let s make a concerted effort to set aside the things that keep us from the lessons and opportunities that God has in store for us..let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, let us run with endur- ance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.. 3 3 The Way of Grace Groups new to Companions in Christ or to spiritual formation will find The Way of Grace to be a good introductory course. If you long to open your heart to a deeper knowing of God's grace to recognize the "soul's deep compass steering us Godward," this is the study for you. It's not too late to join in! The Women of Webberville UMC are hosting a Mission Fair after worship on October 14, during the fellowship hour. We have invited those mission organizations which we support to come share with us. Each organization will have a display table and a representative to talk with you. We hope that you will visit each of the display tables and meet the participants and learn more about each of these mission organizations. We are excited that so far ten organizations have responded with a yes to our invitation: Rescue Mission, Lansing Methodist Children's Home Society, Redford Child and Family Services, Lansing Family Impact Center, Fowlerville CRI (Christian Resource International), Fowlerville Lake Michigan Camp for Kids Love INC (Love in the Name of Christ), Howell UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief) Webberville Food Bank Red Bird Mission, Beverly, Kentucky The Mission Fair Committee: Alice Landolt, Bonney Elzerman and Judy Christie

McKenzie s Accounting and Tax completed the audit and had no recommendations for changes in financial policies and practices. Only a request that our Disbursement Request Form be ed to her so that she can share it with other clients! ( Which has been done.) BOOK of the MONTH Are you looking for a new type of daily devotional material? Try Voices of the Faithful. The devotionals are inspiring stories of courage from Christian missionaries serving around the world. Each devotional is on one page; can be read in just a few minutes; and contains a short scripture and prayer.
