We all have our various reasons for why each of us joined the Knights. Sometimes it is difficult, though, to draw upon those memories as you ask others to join, and, yes, I want you to ask others to join. We know what a wonderful experience it is to be a member of this Council in particular, and the Knights in general. We are blessed to have such a vigorous Council active in so many ways. Spiritually and fraternally we grow. My best friends are Knights. As we go through this fraternal year, then, I ask you to think about why you are a Knight and to share that with our fellow parishioners that are not Knights. Much of the content you put in your newsletter can also be used for your Web site. Microsoft Word offers a simple way to convert your newsletter to a Web publication. So, when you re finished writing your newsletter, convert it to a Web site and post it. ***************************** Scholarship; Steve Marques Squires Circle; Steve Bauer, M.D. Tootsie Roll Drive; Geraldo Zappata Assembly #3018: Faithful Navigator; James Fay In March, Pete Blozis volunteered to organize the "Knight's Family Communion" (formally referred to as Corporate Communion) in an attempt to increase participation and draw attention to the Knight's community at St. Mark's. The objective is to have our Knights and their Family Communion families attend attend the 10 a.m. Mass in the 4 months each year with a 5th Sunday (August and November of 2014 and March May August and November 2015). The Knights and their families gather at the church to visit with one another and other church goers 30 minutes prior to the 10 a.m. Mass. At 5 minutes before Mass the Knights with their families form a procession led by several 4th Degree Knights ( in full Regalia). Pews are reserved so we can all sit together. After Mass, the 4th Degree Knights lead the procession out following the priest. You will be receiving an prior to each

3 Page 3 of 6 prior to each event asking that you RSVP via the "Sign Up Genius" website. A link will be provided for the site. Or you can just reply via . Please reply so the appropriate pew space can be reserved. This last March we had a good turnout with an even better showing in June. Please put this on your calendar schedule for August and November to get to know your fellow Knights and their families as well as other St. Mark parishioners. We want to make our organization better known in the hopes of growing and becoming an even stronger family group See you there! ******************* Out of left field blurred vision, neurological burning, and numbness, lower back pain. Left toe felt as if squeezed in a pair of pliers. Had perfect health prior. Was a weightlifting junkie. Four months of comments ranging from possible cancer to a brain tumor. Finally in April 1993, a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis (MS). What was this? Relief and fear combined. Went quickly from a cane to a manual chair to a powerchair. Kept myself employed for another 10 years before retiring. Now what? At age 43, nothing but time on my hands. At the suggestion of my wife Zoe, became a Knight in August Began attending Adoration. Started a Divine Mercy cenacle. Went to an ACTS retreat. Participated in a Marriage Encounter group. Accepted position of Church Director. Baclofen pump implanted in stomach to help minimize leg spasms Did so but in the process, Newsletter Title A Warm Thank You from a Brother Knight revealed body weakness and muscle atrophy. Forced to quit driving.was able to work around an inaccessible washroom / shower. Eventually became dangerous for both me and Zoe. Started eating less. Weight loss around 30lbs. Received multiple bids for remodeling. Crazy amounts. Brother Knights approach us with various solutions / assistance. Through God s mighty providence, work begins. I relocate to the office floor for about 8 weeks. Become familiar with every rug fiber, bug, dirt stain. Amazing progress occurs. Some of it seen; mostly heard. I encounter brothers thanking me for the opportunity to serve during this project. I m just a victim of circumstances. Was this work needed yes. Am I worthy of this generosity no. The commitment, detail, knowledge, care, sacrifice, generosity, comradery and talent shown was second to Fr. Kevin Ryan, Ken & Dedication none. The opportunity to handle basic human needs is now present by means of an ADA accessible sink, shower and commode plus much room to maneuver a power wheelchair around. A motorized ceiling lift system installation was overseen by the Knights to completion. Zoe and I would like to relay a heartfelt thank you to Council #7613 and it s members who were active physically, financially and/or spiritually in this project. You made a life-changing difference in our lives and we are forever indebted to you. It is comforting to know that this brotherhood has our backs, in one form or another, regardless of where this disease may take us. Now take a moment and be proud of this council and of being a Knight. We are. ************************* Sincerely,

4 Newsletter Title Page 4 of 6 Have You Heard For the sixth consecutive year members of Knights of Columbus Council 7613 and their families are preparing to host a welcome back dinner for all seminarians as they return from summer vacations. This includes Assumption, Oblate and Dominican Missionaries for the Deaf Apostolate seminarians. These men are our future priests and it is our way of extending our hospitality to them. All members of Council 7613 AND THEIR FAMILIES are invited. We especially Each time that I ask someone if they know of CRIT I receive a blank stare. That s OK because until Bev and went with Chris Lewis to Guadalajara, Mexico a year ago we had never heard of it either. CRIT is a Mexican acronym that stands for Central Rehabilitacion de Infantil Telecon. This is a facility that cares encourage all children to come. Past years have proven this to be a wonderful event for everyone. This will be a pot luck event except for meat and bread. Some of our members are BBQing brisket and bread will be freshly baked. Please, set aside the date of 23 August, 2014 to join in this celebration. Come to Christopher Hall immediately after the 5:00 pm Mass. Festivities will begin at about 6:30. You will soon receive an inquiry asking for your response. Once received, Please Let What Is A Crit? for children up to the age of 18 who have a variety of maladies. It is very popular in Mexico with about 21 facilities spread throughout the country. The CRIT organization is now constructing a first such facility in the United States. In fact that facility is being built right here in San by: Sam Szalwinski us know if you plan to attend. We will then assign each family a dish to bring. LET S FILL CHRISTOPHER HALL WITH THIS CELEBRATION!! ***************************** Antonio. It is located near Morgan s Wonderland near the intersection of Thousand Oaks and Loop 410. If your travels take you in this vicinity, you will see a very bright red building with trim in dark purple. This is the trademark colors of all CRIT facilities in Mexico.

5 CRIT in San Antonio is being built with Mexican resources. Historically, a fund raiser takes place in Mexico during the first few days of December each year. I am told that the facility in San Antonio will cost about $16.3 million completely furnished. Our Parish wheelchair fund raiser conducted in early June netted more than $34,000. Three parishes combined to raise a total of about $57,500. The other parishes include St. Francis of Assissi and OLPH of Selma. We all know there were 14 apostles, including Matthias (Judas replacement) and Paul. However, most of us can only identify four or five. One of those not well known is Bartholomew. His feast day is August 24 th. Bartholomew, a friend of another apostle, Philip, is mentioned by name in all three Synoptic Gospels, as well as the Acts of the Apostles. It is believed he witnessed Deacons Corner With these funds two containers of wheelchairs have been ordered. A large container of 280 chairs will be donated to the CRIT facility. A small container of 110 chairs will be available for needy people throughout Texas. The cost of these wheel chairs is $42,000 and $16,500 respectively. The American Wheelchair Mission will cover the $1,000 difference. Dedication of the CRIT facility will take place on 30 October, It is expected that the wheelchairs will arrive before that the Ascension. Some scripture scholars believe he is the same person as Nathanael. Bartholomew is the person who is quoted as saying about Jesus, Can anything good come out of Nazareth? Tradition has it that he was crucified in Armenia. He is the patron saint of nervous disorders. ************************* Hello Brother Knights, Happie Zappie here, Lecture of our Council Part of my duties is to make sure there's a date and 280 of them will be presented to CRIT at dedication ceremonies on that date. People who would like to volunteer when this facility opens need to watch for more information to be published later. ************************* meal/snacks after all our General meetings held each 1st Thursday of the month. We have been blessed with many a great cook in our council, and many a fine meal these past years, so I'm reaching out again and asking for volunteers for this fraternal year. June, and July have passed, so I need August through June What do you do you ask?. The meal can be as simple as cold cuts, Pizza, Frito Pie, Soup, a favorite home recipe etc...it is completely up to you. You provide da meal and help serve it. We provide you with a check for your out of pocket $$, we provide the plastic ware, dishes, napkins, etc... Some of the Brothers have teamed up, others go it alone, but I will always be there to help. This is a great time for brothers to share a meal and good conversation and for some the only time they get to see each other. Great fellowship.
