REPORT ON ACTIVITIES OF THE GRAND KING (A CTING) TO: FROM: MOST EXCELLENT GRAND HIGH PRIEST, OFFICERS AND MEMBERS OF THE GRAND CHAPTER, AND THE COMMITTEE ON THE DOINGS OF GRAND OFFICERS R. BRADLEY ALDERFER, KYCH, GRAND KING (ACTING) DATE: 2/26/2013 It has been my honor and privilege to serve this Grand Chapter for the preceding Capitular year. While I started the year as your Grand Scribe, I have, for the past few months, been acting as your Grand King, following the tragic and untimely death of Right Excellent Companion Michael Deavilla. During the year, I participated in a number of activities and have thoroughly enjoyed the many friendships I have developed with other Companions from around the United States and throughout the world, and I have been well treated when I have travelled outside of the jurisdiction for Grand Chapter Convocations. Following is a brief summary of my activities: I served as visiting officer at Meridian Sun in Nashua, Trinity Chapter in Concord, and Hiram Chapter in Suncook. I attended the visitations in Milford, Portsmouth/Rochester and Manchester. I attended the Annual Unity Party and Masons Day at Strawberry Bank. I accompanied the Grand High Priest to the Grand Convocation in Massachusetts and represented this Grand Chapter in New Jersey. I also attended the Grand York Rite banquet in Vermont, along with the Most Illustrious Grand Master and the Right Eminent Grand Commander. It has been a most enjoyable year, and I am sincerely grateful for the opportunity to have served. I look forward to continuing to serve in such capacity as may be deemed appropriate by the members of this Grand Chapter. Respectfully Submitted, R. Bradley Alderfer, KYCH Grand King (Acting) 6

REPORT OF THE ACTIVITIES OF THE GRAND CAPTAIN OF THE HOST To the Most Excellent Grand High Priest, Officers and Companions of the Grand Royal Arch Chapter of New Hampshire: It has been my honor to serve this year as your Grand Captain of the Host during this past year. I served as Visiting Officer at Mount Horeb Chapter in Manchester, Temple Chapter in Rochester and North Star Chapter in Lancaster. Although I was well received in Lancaster, there were not enough present to perform the necessary duties for the visitation. However, the Grand lecturer did observe a Royal arch Degree performed at a later date. All properties were inspected and found in fine form. I would like to thank those Chapters for all the courtesies extended and I look forward to supporting the Grand Chapter in whatever capacity in the coming year. Respectfully Submitted, Joseph J. Marion Rt. Excellent Grand Captain of the Host 7

April 18, 2012 REPORT OF FRATERNAL CORRESPONDENCE To the Most Excellent Grand High Priest, Grand Officers and members of the Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons for the State of New Hampshire: Your Grand Secretary reports that all Fraternal Correspondence has been received through this Office and has been acted upon, with the expressed knowledge and approval of the Most Excellent Grand High Priest. Correspondence was generally in the form of approving and recommending Grand Representative Appointments. Respectfully submitted, Dennis A. Sheridan MEPGHP Grand Secretary 8

REPORT ON ROYAL ARCH RESEARCH ASSISTANCE PROGRAM The Board of Directors of Royal Arch Research Assistance Incorporated, the philanthropy of the General Grand Chapter Royal Arch Masons International, after considerable research, review, discussion, soul searching and interviewing numerous organizations involved in Central Auditory Processing Disorders have chosen three for research funding for This process took much longer than was desired, however it was felt necessary to maintain the trust and integrity which has been entrusted to the Board by all our Companions. The first organization selected is the University of Connecticut and Dr. Frank Musiek, PhD., an internationally known and recognized researcher in CAPD, and their promising program for continuing their efforts in this field of research. The Board decided to add two additional organizations, Autism Speaks and the Deafness Research Foundation to the current year grant program for their outstanding accomplishments based upon their past history and performance. Individuals diagnosed with Autism have a very high probability of also being impacted with CAPD. Autism Speaks has a number of initiatives dealing with hearing research in newborn children and toddlers. This program will also provide a hands on local capability to become involved in fund raising activities at either the state or local Chapter level should our Companions wish to join or become involved and participate in this great opportunity. The Deafness Research Foundation has a pilot educational program, Safe and Sound, for elementary and middle school children. They also have a new initiative called the Hearing Restoration Project, which is a new multidisciplinary national research consortium effort aimed at speeding up research in the regeneration of cells and molecules that regulate hearing processes. More importantly, this organization also has in place a research grant mechanism to place research funds with younger investigators who are exploring new avenues to the effects of hearing and individual balance. This would allow other existing CAPD research programs the opportunity to apply for grants under this well established program. The Board is excited as it is felt that this initiative will advance national and local recognition of our efforts and provide a very positive image throughout the world for Royal Arch Masonry. The Board also feels that by taking this approach we will have a broader field of research being accomplished by a number of researchers working in Central Auditory Processing Disorders. This certainly seems to provide Royal Arch Masonry with the opportunity to obtain the greatest bang for the buck over all other programs and organizations that were considered. These initial grant programs are to be reviewed annually to assure that the goals and objectives are being met as a requirement for additional future funding. Our agreement and all supporting documents remain to be finalized with these entities and are therefore not official until the appropriate grant applications are submitted to the recipients and approved by the Board. Please join with us however and become willing to participate in this greater opportunity to support Central Auditory Processing Disorders than ever before. Individually we may be unable to help everyone; but together, we can help so many more with your continued assistance and participation. 9

REPORT ON CHARITY (RARA) April 16, 2011 M Ex Companion John S. Geas and members of NH RA Masonry in NH. Because of the uncertainty about continuing with the Royal Arch Research Assistance Foundation in its present form M Ex. John Geas, GHP announced to all Chapters that for this Capitular year any donations should be sent to the NH Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. As of this writing I am unaware of any money contributed to this Organization. General Grand Chapter International has made a decision and will retain the Foundation but will, in the future, make Grants to Research instead of the previous method of a single provider. All Chapters are encouraged to again generate contributions to be donated in the usual manner as before. Respectfully submitted, M Ex Companion Robert D. Steel, PGHP, NH 10

PUBLICITY COMMITTEE REPORTS FOR NEW HAMPSHIRE Report of the Committee of Publicity and Public Relations To the Most Excellent Grand High Priest, Grand Officers and Companions of the Grand Royal Arch Chapter of the State of New Hampshire: The Publicity Committee reports that New Hampshire York Rite is progressing well with Chapter Degree Work being performed around the State in active fashion. We are using the Web Site at currently posting on it our Publicity Committee Reports, and very recently adding a page for York Rite Bodies Trestleboards and even a calendar to keep track of degree work and meetings. We can thank Ex. Companion Scott M. Ayen from Cheshire-Webb No. 4 for developing the calendar for us. We encourage all York Rite Bodies to submit their notices to the Grand Secretary s Office by so they may be included and their degree dates, etc. added to the calendar. Our Facebook page is being utilized for communication as well and we encourage those on Facebook to seek us out and interact. ME Comp. Herbert H. Hutchinson s daily reports of deceased or ill brethren and sisters of our jurisdiction show tireless dedication to the craft. We all thank him for his efforts on keeping us all up to date on our distressed and worthy Companions. Most Excellent Grand High Priest, it is a pleasure to serve on this Committee for the Grand Chapter. Fraternally, R. Bradley Alderfer, PHP Dennis A. Sheridan, PGHP Chairman 11

REPORT OF THE MEMBER SHIP COMMITTEE TO: FROM: THE MOST EXCELLENT GRAND HIGH PRIEST, OFFICERS AND MEMBERS OF THE GRAND CHAPTER OF KNIGHTS TEMPLAR, STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE DATE: 2/26/2013 It has been our privilege to serve as your Membership Committee for the preceding Capitular year. This year, no festival was planned in Manchester as in the two previous years, so it was interesting to see if the interest in the Rite would continue and spread throughout the State. There has been activity throughout the state, beginning in August in Claremont, where 6 men began their York Rite journey. While I do not have an exact count of those who have joined our ranks since the last Annual Session, there has been significant activity in many Chapters. During the year, the Royal Arch Degree was conferred in Portsmouth, Claremont, Manchester, and Lancaster, providing more opportunities for exaltation than have been presented in many years. We have begun to spread the word by making available the informative booklet, The York Rite of Freemasonry at no cost to interested Master Masons at the Grand Lodge Semi-Annual Communication in November. Our thanks to the Grand Lodge Education Committee and Companion Malcolm Wooff for assisting in this effort In speaking throughout the State, we continue to use the tag line: Everyone wants to be a York Rite Mason, they just don t know it, yet. For the first time this year, the membership function of the York Rite Bodies has become a unified effort, by virtue of a common Committee Chair. We still need to get the word out, by letting the brethren know where they can find information about the Rite. We have seen the beginnings of a coordinated effort aimed at informing all York Rite Bodies within the State exactly when and where the several York Rite Degrees and Orders are being exemplified and we thank the Grand Secretary and the Publicity Committee for their assistance in placing this information on the website. Our Brethren in the Scottish Rite continue a well-financed and well-coordinated effort to recruit new members. The Supreme Council, NMJ is currently involved in a campaign surround its 200 th Anniversary. This effort is, in the opinion of the Chair, aimed at numbers, and is not something I believe we should emulate. We should seek those who are genuinely interested, and may become active. New Master Masons are still interested in history and tradition, and we can offer both. To some degree, we have built it, and given sufficient information, we believe they will come. We should continue our efforts to identify a single member in as many Lodges as we can who will be visible, so that the brethren will have a go to person for information about the York Rite. 12

We should continue to make available The York Rite of Freemasonry to as many interested masons as we can reach. As a part of this effort, we recommend that this Grand Commandery assist in manning the information table made available by our Grand Master at the Grand Lodge Annual Session in May. We suggest that said table be manned by knowledgeable brethren from different parts of the state, armed with an adequate supply of The York Rite of Freemasonry, along with other information on the Rite, such as the membership trifold, which has been rewritten for New Hampshire, information on the local organizations, include location and meeting times, and of course, petitions. SPECIFICALLY, WE RECOMMEND THAT EACH CHAPTER SELECT A DATE, EITHER ON THEIR OWN OR IN CONJUNCTION WITH ANOTHER CHAPTER, WITHIN TWO MONTHS AFTER THE GRAND LODGE SESSION AT WHICH THEY WILL CONFER THE MARK MASTER MASON DEGREE. This way everyone will have an answer when and interested Master Mason asks, When can I get started? Our current Grand Master is more supportive of the York Rite than anyone who has served in that office for many years. We should take advantage of that, and strive to support him in all his fraternal efforts. The Committee should also determine how visible our Grand Master will allow us to be. For example, is it appropriate to appear in Lodge in the regalia of the York Rite bodies as visitors? Can we craft correspondence for each constituent Lodge to get the word out? Finally, each of us should contribute to the membership effort by being visible in the Blue Lodges around the State, seeking opportunities to dispense information regarding the Order and membership therein. Respectfully Submitted, R. Bradley Alderfer, KYCH, Chairman William J. Morrison 13

REPORT OF THE GRAND LECTURER To: M Ex GHP John S. Geas, GRAC of NH and Companions, Subject: Report of the activities of the Grand Lecturer, 2010/11 May 15, 2011 M Ex John Geas, it has been a privilege to serve you and the Companions of this Grand Jurisdiction for the past year. It has been an eventful year for myself also an interesting one for Capitular Masonry in NH. What follows is the schedule of events attended by myself as your representative as well as other events I either visited or participated in regards to York Rite Masonry in general. Sept York Rite NE Regional Chapter (Albany, NY) 28 North Star #16 Annual Visitation MEM Oct. 12 Portsmouth, MEM Deg. Annual Visitation 26 North Star #16 MMM Degree Nov 6 Manchester, RA Deg. 10 Special Convocation of Grand Chapter 2011 Jan 25 PM & MEM in Lancaster Mar 22 RA Deg. Lancaster Apr 16 Grand Chapter/Council Annual Business session May Annual Sessions of NH York Rite Bodies All Visitations were normal; Books and records were available and correct. The only report I received in writing was by Ex James Geas who is, to my understanding no longer a member of the Fraternity. I did attend most of the annual visitations and observed the Deputies in their work. Further, I attended most of the degree work of the individual Chapters. Recommendation: It is anticipated that the Grand Lodge is going to adjust the way they evaluate Lodges. This would be an appropriate time for us to do the same. 14

It is my recommendation that the Grand Lecturer and/or one of his Deputies visit each Chapter, as assigned, whenever they confer a degree, instead of during the annual visitation. In the event a Chapter does not confer a degree during the year, the Deputy assigned to that Chapter shall require one of the degrees (other than PM) to be performed. We will receive a more accurate picture of each Chapters abilities and capabilities to function and perform degree work. Continued cooperation of two or more Chapters may still be required for a period of time. The assigned Visiting Officer should still set his dates; perform his usual inspection of records/properties as is customary and be independent from the witnessing of degree work. He is then free to bring more information to each Chapter and may even have the ability to generate discussions. Thus gathering constructive ideas for the betterment of Capitular Masonry. Respectfully submitted, M Ex Companion Robert D. Steel, Grand Lecturer, PGHP, GRAC of NH Report of Unfinished Business To the ME Grand High Priest and the Companions of the State of New Hampshire: Upon review of the Proceedings of 2011, all unfinished business was satisfactorily concluded. Sincerely and fraternally, Dennis A. Sheridan, PGHP, Grand Secretary 15

TO: Companions and Sir Nights FROM: Chairman for IORG It is with great pleasure to announce that IORG continues to thrive here in New Hampshire as we take on the commitment to get girls ready for life. In 2011 Miss Kaytee Peek was installed as Grand Worthy Advisor, along with her Awesome Aussies and Flying Sheila s, as they Adventure Down under with NH Rainbow. Our Grand Immortality, the honored station, has been collecting items for David s House and our Grand Miss Service organized and extremely successful Captives Carnival and raised over $ Several of our dignitaries from the Masonic family agreed to be jailed to help raise money for the state charity and much fun was had by all at the carnival, Membership is always a top priority in NH and I am proud to say that NH IORG finished off two recent Grand years with membership increases of 37% and 24% respectively as measured by Supreme Assembly. The Fraternal Family is very important to NH Rainbow and they look forward to getting together as much as possible with the supporting bodies and enjoy the camaraderie that they get from the participation in the open events. In 2010 NH IORG brought 14 girls and adults to Supreme Sessions in Omaha, Nebraska, where PWGA Miss Kaytee Peek was acting Grand Supreme Treasurer, Miss Stephanie Morrison participated in the Cavalcade of Flags and Miss Rachel Aznive did the Skit presentation. This does show what Supreme thinks of NH to have three of our young ladies participate in the session. John S. Geas Chairman for IORG 16

NH YORK RITE LIFE MEMBERSHIP FOUNDATION 2012 The annual meeting of the NH York Rite Life Membership Foundation was held on Thursday, March 29, 2012 at 7:30 P.M. The following members were present: Robert L. Sutherland, Jr. President, Robert G. Hatfield, Vice President, Rodney A. Robinson, Treasurer, Gerald F. Buehrer, Secretary, Robert M. Argel. Ronald E. Metcalf, Richard A. Gilbert, Sr., Robert Porter and H. Stephen Wood were absent. The meeting was opened at 7:30 P.M. and a prayer was given by Comp. Robert M. Argel. The minutes of the March 29, 2011 meeting were read and approved. Old Business: With the resignation of Comp. Walter P. Sword, Comp. Robert Porter was elected for three years at the annual Council business meeting on April 16, H. Stephen Wood and Ronald E. Metcalf were also re-elected for three more years at the 2011 annual meetings of the Grand Chapter and Commandery. All Secretaries and Recorders are supposed to send a list of all of their life members (living and deceased) to the Treasurer or Secretary of the Life Membership Foundation not later than Feb. 28 of each year. This is so the Treasurer can compare his list with all of the York Rite bodies and make sure we are not missing any members and that body gets short changed. This year, not a single body sent in their report. It was moved that the President send an to the Grand Recorder and ask him to all Secretaries/Recorders of this requirement. Perhaps he could send this reminder each year. Or, if the Grand Sec/Rec would send me a list of all of the Sec. Rec. with their addresses, I would be glad to do it. New Business: It was decided that only members of Chapters, Councils and Commanderies can become life members of this foundation. Appendant bodies are not eligible for membership. Due to the low return on our investments, we are forced to raise the rates for membership. As of March 1, 2014, the rates will increase approximately 5%. If you are thinking of becoming a life member, take advantage of the old rates prior to Feb. 28, The Treasurer read his report. We did a little better in 2011 than We had an income of $2, which was % profit on our investments, We had an increase of 5 members in 2011, which brings us to 284. The York Rite bodies will receive the income as follows: Chapters: $ Councils: $ Commanderies: $ $2,

In the future, no Chapter, Council or Commandery will receive their check unless a list of their life members is received. It was voted to forego the 25 cent per member charge this year. It was voted to accept the Treasurer s report. Election of Officers: At the election of officers, it was moved that the same officers remain in office for another year. It was seconded and accepted. The Secretary announced that the following members would be going off of the committee unless reelected: Rodney A. Robinson Gerald F. Buehrer Robert L. Sutherland, Jr. Chapter Council Commandery The meeting for next year will be Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at 7:30 P.M. at the same location. With a closing prayer by Comp. Argel, the meeting was closed at 8:20 P.M. True and attest; Gerald F. Buehrer, Secretary 18

REPORT OF THE DOINGS OF GRAND OFFICERS To the MEGHP and Grand Royal Arch Chapter of the State of New Hampshire, as Committee Chairman on the Doings of Grand Officers Committee, I submit the following report. I acknowledge the receipt of reports to this committee from the following: The Grand Lecturer, MEPGHP Robert D. Steel The Grand Captain of the Host, RE R. Bradley Alderfer No other reports have been received. However, I was in attendance at the Annual Business Meeting and heard the oral reports of the ME Grand High Priest and others. Based on the oral reports heard at the Annual Business Meeting, it appears that all Grand Chapter Officers have performed their duties in a satisfactory manner. Most Excellent Steel and RE Alderfer are to be commended for their attention to the duties of their Office as detailed in their reports. It should also be noted that RE Companion Alderfer has also been filling in for our deceased Grand King, Michael E. Deavilla. Respectfully submitted, William J. Morrison MEPGHP, Chairman 19

April 18, 2012 REPORT OF THE GRAND SECRETARY To the ME Grand High Priest, Grand Officers and Royal Arch Companions of NH: I hereby submit my report as Grand Secretary for the year The Proceedings for 2012 are completed and have been placed on the web site. 22 To the Most Excellent Grand High priest, Grand Officers and Companions of the Grand Royal Arch Chapter of New Hampshire: As a member of your Finance Committee, I met with our Grand Treasurer R.E. Companion Verne S. Anderson, Jr. for the purpose of auditing the grand Chapter financial records for the past fiscal year. I found the records in excellent condition and most easy to audit. I also reviewed the past and current investments of our Grand Chapter. I find that our current investments have been carefully made and should provide increased returns over the years to come. I find that our current investments have been carefully made and are providing very nice increases and returns despite the current Market, and should continue to do so for years to come. As the advisor to the Committee I have also prepared a recommended budget for the ensuing year of 2012=2013 that Comp. Porter will present for your consideration and hopeful acceptance. We are well aware of the cost of things and that times are tight, however it was necessary to increase the per capita by $1.00 this year to $5.00, this being the first increase in well over six years. The increase is due to the decrease in membership and the added cost of operations of the Grand Chapter. We recommend continuing the efforts in reducing the expenditures of the Grand Chapter with continuing emphasis on the following items as has been done in the past years. We do however, feel that we have shortchanged some areas that need our attention in past years as we have not put any money in the budget for our Grand Officers expenses to travel to the NE Conference where they may meet their counterparts and get some most valued training. We have therefore included a small amount for the top three Officers for general expenses. We are aware that they do much at their own expense so although it is not much, it will be divided between them equally for travel expenses (receipts for that will be required), as well as for the NE Conference. We also know that our future is with our youth and it is time that we are added to their support so the sum in the budget will be divided equally between Demolay and rainbow for the annual meetings. 1. Continue to strive in making our Annual Convocation closer to being self-supporting. 2. Continue the Publication of our Proceedings via compact disk and posting on the Internet. 3. Continued use of coordinating planning sessions to reduce the number of meetings for Grand Officers to attend. We thank the grand Chapter for the privilege to serve on this very important Committee. Respectfully submitted, Robert L. Sutherland, Jr., Advisor, Robert D. Steel, Robert M. Porter, Robert L. Sutherland, Jr. 22

To the Members of the Grand Royal Arch Chapter, Grand Officers of the Grand Royal Arch Chapter of New Hampshire: The report of the Hiram Wales Johnson Memorial Fund Your Committee on the Hiram Wales Johnson memorial fund makes the following recommendations for the income of that fund for this year. 1. $ for New Hampshire Ever green Place 2. $ for the Knight Templar Eye Foundation 3. $ for RARA 4. $ for GGCRM Foundation 5. $300 for Grand Lodge of NH Annual Charity Drive Respectfully submitted, William F. Curtis, Gerald F. Buehrer 23

REPORT OF THE COMMITTEE ON JURISPRUDENCE To Companion William F. Curtis, Most Excellent Grand High Priest, and the Companions of the Grand Royal Arch Chapter of New Hampshire: The Jurisprudence Committee has reviewed your report of activities for the Capitular year and wishes to thank you for its submission. It is always an easier task for this Committee to evaluate the Grand High Priest s decisions and activities when his report is timely and complete. The Committee reviewed the level of activity shown by the Grand High Priest, and was disappointed to note the absence of travel outside the jurisdiction of New Hampshire. Visiting other jurisdictions is an integral and important part of the duties of any Grand Head. Not doing so short-changes both the Grand High Priest and the Grand Royal Arch Chapter of New Hampshire. The Committee concurs with the dispensation and waivers of jurisdiction granted, and finds them to be in proper format. Additionally, the Committee concurs with the Grand Representative appointments made and applauds the Grand High Priest for supporting the exchange of Representatives with our Sister jurisdictions. Most Excellent Sir, it has been a pleasure working with you during the past Capitular year, and we thank you for the privilege of serving this Grand Chapter as your Jurisprudence Committee. Sincerely and Fraternally, Roger A. Douillette, Sr., MEPGHP Robert L. Sutherland, Jr., MEPGHP Richard F. Cole, Jr., MEPGHP, Chairman 45
