7 GRAND ROYAL ARCH CHAPTER OF NEW HAMPSHIRE SPECIAL CONVOCATION November 10, 2010 The Special Convocation of the Grand Royal Arch Chapter of New Hampshire was held in the Manchester Masonic Temple on Wednesday November 10, 2010 at 7:30 p.m. Mount Horeb Chapter was the Host for the event. The GHP opened in due form, including flag salute, and asked for the business to be presented. A Roll Call of Chapters was taken and the following Chapters were represented: #2 HP & P, # HP & P & P, #4 Not represented, #9 P, #11 HP, K, P, #16 HP & P & P, #17 HP, P & SC, #20 HP, K, P, #24 HP & P. A quorum was found for the conduct of business and the following were present for the Special Convocation. As General Grand Chapter has withdrawn their support of that charity, NH Grand Chapter will support the choice of the current Grand High Priest until such issues are settled. Most Excellent John S. Geas has directed the Juvenile Diabetes Association be this year s selection. ME Robert D. Steel will remain the Chairman of the Committee, with a change of name to Charity Committee. Robert Steel, William Curtis and Robert Porter are to be the Finance Committee, with assistance from ME Robert Sutherland.

8 A moment of silence was held for ME Companions Wallace Emerson and Edward Younker. It was voted to donate $25 to the Community Care Givers in memory of ME Younker. The Hiram Wales Johnson Fund has several issues attached to it as well. A vote to elect the Trustees of the Fund was approved. Several proposals to the Grand Regulations are under consideration and will come up for vote in April. The Grand Secretary will circulate these proposed changes with the Annual Report this winter. Companion Ray Robb was directed to retire, and a unanimous vote to elect him an Honorary Grand High Priests was taken. He returned to hearty congratulations by his Companions. The Reports of Doings and the Grand Lecturer were accepted as well. Life Membership Committee recommended reelection of H. Stephen Wood for 3 years. This motion was seconded and passed the vote. All proposed Changes to the Grand Regulations were discussed at length and all passed the vote therein. It is noted that the Change to Article 2 Section had 5 members contrary minded, Article 4 Section had one contrary minded, Article 5 Section had one contrary minded, and Article 7 Section had 5 contrary minded. Article 2 Section passed by a unanimous vote. A donation to donate $50 to the Tilton Fraternal Association was passed and a vote to meet there again next year on the third Saturday of April was also passed. Following were remarks from our Most Excellent Grand High Priest Companion John S. Geas. After those closing remarks, he recessed the Grand Royal Arch Chapter of NH until May 14th. 11 The Report of the Grand King To M.E. Companion JOHN S. GEAS, Most Excellent Grand High Priest, the Officers and Members of the Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons of the State of New Hampshire, and the Committee on Doings of the Grand Officers: I attended the following events of : May 13-15, 2010 Grand Chapter of New Hampshire The combined planning session in June Nov. 6, 2010 Royal Arch Degree, Manchester Nov. 16, 2010 Semi-annual communication of the Grand Chapter Of NH April 12, 2011 MM Degree, Portsmouth I also represented the Grand High Priest at several other York Rite Functions. I was Visiting Officer at the following Chapter Visitations: Oct. 12, 2010 A combined Visitation of Washington Chapter #3 and Temple Chapter #20 at Portsmouth. I found the books of all, to be in great shape, the Secretaries of each Chapter should be commended. I would like to thank all the Chapters for the courtesies extended to me at all my visits, and the members of the Grand Chapter for electing me to this office. 12 Report of the Grand Scribe To the Most Excellent Grand High Priest, Officers and Companions of the Grand Royal Arch Chapter of New Hampshire It has been my honor to serve this year as Grand Scribe in our Grand Chapter. During the year, I was unable to attend one of my required visitations, in Claremont due to being in the hospital, but I did attend Chapter visitations in Manchester on September 22 and November 15 in Nashua. I also attended meetings of the York Rite College, Scenic Council, and KYCH as well as a number of Shrine activities. In addition to attending local activities, I had the opportunity to also attend the Grand York Rite sessions in Tennessee in March, representing New Hampshire for all 3 York Rite bodies. During my visit, I also attended Grand Chapter and Grand Commandery sessions as well as meetings of the York Rite College and KYCH while there. In closing I would like to thank the Companions of the Grand Chapter for the opportunity to serve and I would like to continue to serve in any capacity that I may be called upon for. 13 REPORT ON ACTIVITIES OF THE GRAND CAPTAIN OF THE HOST TO: FROM: MOST EXCELLENT GRAND HIGH PRIEST, OFFICERS AND MEMBERS OF THE GRAND CHAPTER, AND THE COMMITTEE ON THE DOINGS OF GRAND OFFICERS R. BRADLEY ALDERFER, KYCH, RIGHT EXCELLENT GRAND CAPTAIN OF THE HOST DATE: 10/22/2011 It has been my honor and privilege to serve as your Grand Captain of the Host for the preceding Capitular year. During the year, I participated in a number of activities and have thoroughly enjoyed the many friendships I have developed with other Companions from around the United States and throughout the world. While I have not travelled outside of the jurisdiction for Grand Chapter Convocations, due to other Masonic commitments, following is a brief summary of my activities: I served as visiting officer at Meridian Sun Chapter/King Solomon in Nashua. I attended the visitations in Concord/Claremont and Portsmouth/Rochester and Manchester. It has been a most enjoyable year, and I am sincerely grateful for the opportunity to have served. While I will be unable to be with you at our Annual Session, due to the graduation of my youngest child from the University of Rochester with a degree in Optical Engineering which occurs at the same time, I do look forward to continuing to serve in such capacity as may be deemed appropriate by the members of this Grand Chapter. 15 REPORT ON ROYAL ARCH RESEARCH ASSISTANCE PROGRAM The Board of Directors of Royal Arch Research Assistance Incorporated, the philanthropy of the General Grand Chapter Royal Arch Masons International, after considerable research, review, discussion, soul searching and interviewing numerous organizations involved in Central Auditory Processing Disorders have chosen three for research funding for This process took much longer than was desired, however it was felt necessary to maintain the trust and integrity which has been entrusted to the Board by all our Companions. The first organization selected is the University of Connecticut and Dr. Frank Musiek, PhD., an internationally known and recognized researcher in CAPD, and their promising program for continuing their efforts in this field of research. The Board decided to add two additional organizations, Autism Speaks and the Deafness Research Foundation to the current year grant program for their outstanding accomplishments based upon their past history and performance. Individuals diagnosed with Autism have a very high probability of also being impacted with CAPD. Autism Speaks has a number of initiatives dealing with hearing research in newborn children and toddlers. This program will also provide a hands on local capability to become involved in fund raising activities at either the state or local Chapter level should our Companions wish to join or become involved and participate in this great opportunity. The Deafness Research Foundation has a pilot educational program, Safe and Sound, for elementary and middle school children. They also have a new initiative called the Hearing Restoration Project, which is a new multidisciplinary national research consortium effort aimed at speeding up research in the regeneration of cells and molecules that regulate hearing processes. More importantly, this organization also has in place a research grant mechanism to place research funds with younger investigators who are exploring new avenues to the effects of hearing and individual balance. This would allow other existing CAPD research programs the opportunity to apply for grants under this well established program. The Board is excited as it is felt that this initiative will advance national and local recognition of our efforts and provide a very positive image throughout the world for Royal Arch Masonry. The Board also feels that by taking this approach we will have a broader field of research being accomplished by a number of researchers working in Central Auditory Processing Disorders. This certainly seems to provide Royal Arch Masonry with the opportunity to obtain the greatest bang for the buck over all other programs and organizations that were considered. These initial grant programs are to be reviewed annually to assure that the goals and objectives are being met as a requirement for additional future funding. Our agreement and all supporting documents remain to be finalized with these entities and are therefore not official until the appropriate grant applications are submitted to the recipients and approved by the Board. Please join with us however and become willing to participate in this greater opportunity to support Central Auditory Processing Disorders than ever before. Individually we may be unable to help everyone; but together, we can help so many more with your continued assistance and participation.

16 REPORT ON CHARITY (RARA) April 16, 2011 M Ex Companion John S. Geas and members of NH RA Masonry in NH. Because of the uncertainty about continuing with the Royal Arch Research Assistance Foundation in its present form M Ex. John Geas, GHP announced to all Chapters that for this Capitular year any donations should be sent to the NH Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. As of this writing I am unaware of any money contributed to this Organization. General Grand Chapter International has made a decision and will retain the Foundation but will, in the future, make Grants to Research instead of the previous method of a single provider. 17 PUBLICITY COMMITTEE REPORTS FOR NEW HAMPSHIRE Report of the Committee of Publicity and Public Relations To the Most Excellent Grand High Priest, Grand Officers and Companions of the Grand Royal Arch Chapter of the State of New Hampshire: The Publicity Committee reports that New Hampshire York Rite is progressing well with 33 new Chapter candidates taking the degrees over the year. The York Rite News is no longer with us, so we can only depend on Chapter Trestleboards and ed information about upcoming events. We also have tried to make use of the Web Sites posted on NHYorkRite.com posting Publicity Committee Reports and by adding web sites for our Appendant Bodies as well. The York Rite Council is funding the web site cost and the labor is coming from the Grand Secretary s Office. Companion Herbert H. Hutchinson s daily reports of deceased or ill brethren and sisters of our jurisdiction show tireless dedication to the craft. We all thank him for his efforts on keeping us all up to date on our distressed and worthy Companions. 18 REPORT OF THE EDUCATION & MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE TO: FROM: THE MOST EXCELLENT GRAND HIGH PRIEST, OFFICERS AND MEMBERS OF THE GRAND ROYAL ARCH CHAPTER, STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE EDUCATION & MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE DATE: 10/22/2011 It has been our privilege to serve as your Education & Membership Committee for the preceding Capitular year. This year, no festival was planned in Manchester as in the two previous years, so it was interesting to see if the interest in the Rite would continue and spread throughout the State. There has been activity throughout the state, beginning in August in Claremont, where 6 men began their York Rite journey. At least 13 have joined our ranks since our last Annual Session, and there has been activity in nearly every Chapter. In March, 6 men were exalted in Lancaster. Portsmouth will begin another class in April. Special attention needs to be paid to the presentation of the Royal Arch Degree. This is the most labor and property intensive of all the York Rite Degrees and Orders, and we believe it can be a bottleneck in the process. During the year, the Chair had an opportunity to work with the YRIS in order to update and verify the records of his own Trinity Commandery. An interesting discovery came to light: Of the 120+ members of Trinity Commandery, 40 have joined since March, When this information is extrapolated to Chapter, it explains why there has been but one new Past High Priest since that time. We recommend that other Chapters review their records as well, as we think it will be enlightening. The balance of this report will reiterate points we have made in prior reports. We believe it is time for the membership function of the York Rite Bodies to become a unified effort, and recommend that the several presiding Grand Officers work to create a York Rite Membership Task Force with responsibility for coordinating all membership and promotional activities We believe that a coordinated effort aimed at informing all York Rite Bodies within the State exactly when and where the several York Rite Degrees and Orders are being exemplified will enable us to sustain and grow our order. Our Brethren in the Scottish Rite have developed a well-financed and well-coordinated effort to recruit new members. The Supreme Council, NMJ has even made an appeal to the general membership for funds to assist in this effort. Companions, we must develop an answer, so that our brethren will know that there is not just one path available to the Master Mason seeking further light. We should not make this a completion, but the truth is that nonmember Scottish Rite brethren are the best source of prospective members. We must make sure that new Master

19 Masons are informed about the opportunities for further light within our Rite, and we must do it early. Research done by our Scottish Rite brethren suggests that the likelihood of a Brother seeking further light decreases rapidly within a year of being raised. Remember Companions, we in the York Rite do have a Unique Selling Proposition, which others do not: We have the Rest of the Story! In addition, we are not continually involved in rewriting our traditions to address some perceived demographic trend. New Master Masons are interested in history and tradition, and we can offer both. Some of the specific activities on which we have worked this year include: A presentation of the York Rite opportunity in at least one Lodge in the 3 rd District. If other presentations were made, they have not been reported to this committee. A brief presentation on the York Rite opportunity at various blue lodge visitations within the 2 nd district, along with the Commander in Chief of New Hampshire Consistory. Recommendations: That the membership function of this Grand Commandery be combined with those of the other two Grand York Rite Bodies under the direct supervision of the a York Rite Membership Task Force. That the membership effort be coordinated with public relations with the aim that every York Rite body within the State will know when and where degrees and orders are being exemplified. That a cohesive approach utilizing an ambassador approach be developed, implemented and communicated to the several Lodges within the state, the objective being that each Lodge will have a go to person for information about the York Rite That this Grand Chapter, in conjunction with the other Grand York Rite Bodies, attempt to present or make available something of value to each newly raised Master Mason within the State. Said item would provide information regarding the York Rite opportunity or perhaps on the availability of paths to further light in general. Two examples are The York Rite of Freemasonry, available through Grand Encampment, and Further Light, available from the Masonic Services Association. We favor the second, as it provides information on nearly every appendant and concordant Masonic organization in existence. We believe the unbiased approach will create a favorable impression. That each of us is visible in the Blue Lodges around the State, seeking opportunities to dispense information regarding the Rite and membership therein. Respectfully Submitted, R. Geas, GRAC of NH and Companions, Subject: Report of the activities of the Grand Lecturer, 2010/11 May 15, 2011 M Ex John Geas, it has been a privilege to serve you and the Companions of this Grand Jurisdiction for the past year. It has been an eventful year for myself also an interesting one for Capitular Masonry in NH. What follows is the schedule of events attended by myself as your representative as well as other events I either visited or participated in regards to York Rite Masonry in general. Lancaster Apr 16 Grand Chapter/Council Annual Business session May Annual Sessions of NH York Rite Bodies All Visitations were normal; Books and records were available and correct. The only report I received in writing was by Ex James Geas who is, to my understanding no longer a member of the Fraternity. I did attend most of the annual visitations and observed the Deputies in their work. Further, I attended most of the degree work of the individual Chapters. Recommendation: It is anticipated that the Grand Lodge is going to adjust the way they evaluate Lodges. This would be an appropriate time for us to do the same.

21 It is my recommendation that the Grand Lecturer and/or one of his Deputies visit each Chapter, as assigned, whenever they confer a degree, instead of during the annual visitation. In the event a Chapter does not confer a degree during the year, the Deputy assigned to that Chapter shall require one of the degrees (other than PM) to be performed. We will receive a more accurate picture of each Chapters abilities and capabilities to function and perform degree work. Continued cooperation of two or more Chapters may still be required for a period of time. The assigned Visiting Officer should still set his dates; perform his usual inspection of records/properties as is customary and be independent from the witnessing of degree work. He is then free to bring more information to each Chapter and may even have the ability to generate discussions. Thus gathering constructive ideas for the betterment of Capitular Masonry. 22 REPORT OF THE YOUTH COMMITTEE - DEMOLAY To Companion John S. Geas, Most Excellent Grand High Priest, Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons of New Hampshire: Most Excellent Sir, it is with pleasure that I present this report on the state of the Order of DeMolay for Boys in the jurisdiction of New Hampshire. There are both positives and negatives to report concerning the state of DeMolay in New Hampshire. DeMolay has shown positive growth over the past year that is, there have been more members brought in than were lost. It is the first time in several years that this has happened, and we hope it is a precursor of the future. Also, there have been several functions throughout the State that have been well attended by both DeMolay and Rainbow. Finally, several Lodges within the State have expressed an interest and are working towards establishing Chapters. This is after several years of stagnation in Chapter sponsorship. Unfortunately, there are also negatives. The lack of experienced older DeMolays has resulted in a situation where, as of April 14, 2011, there is no active state suite or State Master Councilor. This is not a desired condition but is one that must, to some degree, be endured while competent leadership among the members is developed. Another concern is one that has become a litany in New Hampshire. There are few Masons willing to support DeMolay in any manner except words. Even the Lodges who have voluntarily indicated an interest in sponsoring a Chapter fail to provide the adult advisors required. Without adults to provide guidance, sponsorship is meaningless. However, lack of adult sponsorship is not the worst consequence to DeMolay. One Lodge in New Hampshire is engaged in an activity that is actively and willfully detrimental to both the Order and Masonry in general. This Lodge has rejected the Masonic application of every or nearly every eligible or Senior DeMolay who has applied. As a Mason and Senior DeMolay myself, I find this conduct by those members of the Lodge engaged in this blanket denial to be reprehensible, inexplicable and destructive. As of April 1, 2011, leadership of New Hampshire DeMolay transferred from Executive Officer and Past DeMolay Grand Master Dad Frederick W. Welch to the Personal Representative of the DeMolay Grand Master George L. Baldwin of Concord. The members of this Committee and the Grand Commandery of New Hampshire wish to sincerely thank Dad Welch for his many continuous years of service to both New Hampshire DeMolay and DeMolay International. We wish him the best in his future endeavors. We would also like to congratulate Dad Baldwin on his appointment and offer the services of this Grand Commandery in the future endeavors of New Hampshire DeMolay. Most Excellent Sir, it has been a pleasure serving this Grand Chapter as Chairman of the Youth Committee - DeMolay for the past number of years, and it has been a labor of love in many ways. I thank you for the opportunity to serve. However, I must inform you that I am unable to accept appointment to this Committee in the future, and would respectfully request that your successor in office honor my request. 23 Proposed Changes to the Grand Regulations of the Grand Royal Arch Chapter of New Hampshire ARTICLE 2 COMPOSITION, Section General Membership Now reads: These Officers shall be elected at each Annual Convocation of the Grand Chapter, via written ballot and by a majority of the votes cast. Change to read: These Officers shall be elected at each Annual Convocation of the Grand Chapter, via written ballot prepared by the Grand Secretary and listing those Candidates who have filed with him on or before the Annual Business Meeting, and by a majority of the votes cast. ARTICLE 4 DUTIES OF OFFICERS, Section Remaining Grand Officers Now reads: The remaining Grand Officers shall perform such duties as are traditionally appropriate to their respective stations, and as may be assigned to them by the Grand High Priest of the Grand Chapter. Add the following: Duties of the Grand Lecturer: The Grand Lecturer shall keep each local Chapter fully informed on where and when each Capitular Degree is scheduled to be performed within the Jurisdiction, thereby enabling the local Chapter members to attend and view the Work, learn how it should be presented, and perhaps arrange for their actual participation in the Work as their gained proficiency may allow. By working together, and with the assistance of the Grand Lecturers, the goal of attaining widespread proficiency in the performance of Capitular Degrees may be attained. Each Chapter is encouraged to develop the in-house capability to perform all of the ritual work in Capitular Masonry, to include the Degrees of Mark Master, Past Master, Most Excellent Master, and Royal Arch Mason. Although some

24 local Chapters may find themselves unable to perform these Degrees using their own Officers and Companions, it is desired that they work toward improving their in-house capabilities. ADDRESS OF THE MOST EXCELLENT GRAND HIGH PRIEST TO: DISTINGUISHED GUESTS, MEGGHP, MWGM and COMPANIONS ALL It was with great pleasure to serve as your MEGHP for the past capitular year I have learned many lessons and hope that I can put them to good use in my future endeavors in my career in Masonry. I wish to thank many for your help and guidance, but I will not say names as I might miss someone and I think you know who you are. MANY THANKS I set two goals for this year and one of them came to fruition. That goal was to increase our membership and I accomplished this with the help of the Membership Committee. We gained twenty six new Royal Arch members this year. Great Job Companions. M y second goal to visit every Chapter in the state, but weather conditions prevented some and illness others and this I apologize to all that I missed visiting.

It is embarrassing to be present and being the only representative from New Hampshire while other states had from three to six in their line there. Even companions from Europe or Middle East had eight to twelve representatives. A few times I did have two Past Grand Officers and one

46 Line officer. Within the state I had an average of three line officers at the Visitations and three Past Grand Officers. THANKS FOR THE SUPPORT I would be remiss if I did not thank my Lady Jane for her support as my right hand. This Lady helped me immensely with my duties as MEGHP by keeping me informed where I must be, traveled with me keeping me straight with protocol, working on banquets, hospitality rooms and numerous other projects for your Grand Chapter. Lady Jane worked behind the scenes quietly and I want to say a large THANK YOU LADY JANE. I have no recommendations at this time as the regulations and by-law committee has already done the changes to the Grand Constitution, which is printed in the proceedings. In closing I want to thank everyone for their trust, faith and advice to me over the past two years, it has been a wonderful experience and I hope to put this knowledge to good use in the future. 52 REPORT OF THE JURSIPRUDENCE COMMITTEE To Companion John S. Geas, Most Excellent Grand High Priest, and the Companions of the Grand Royal Arch Chapter of New Hampshire: The Jurisprudence Committee has reviewed your report of activities for the Capitular year and wishes to thank you for its timely submission. It is always an easier task for this Committee to evaluate the Grand High Priest s decisions and activities when adequate time is available for review. The Committee commends the level of activity shown by the Grand High Priest, especially with his outof-state visits. A significant number of in and out of state activities have had representation from this Grand Chapter, and this level of activity is critical to maintaining good fraternal relationships with our sister jurisdictions. The Committee also concurs with the Grand High Priest s concern with the lack of travel by other Officers of the Grand Chapter of New Hampshire. The fraternal relationships established during visits to other Grand Chapters are one of the most, if not the most enjoyable benefit of progressing through any Grand Line, and those aspiring to the office of Grand High Priest should take every opportunity available to travel. The Committee concurs with those by-laws changes approved by the Grand High Priest that were available for review, and finds them to be in compliance with the regulations of the Grand Royal Arch Chapter of New Hampshire. However, this Committee would remind the present and future Grand High Priests that maintaining a record of and reporting any approvals of by-laws changes is an integral duty of the office. Consider yourself duly chided, Most Excellent Sir. The Committee commends the Grand High Priest for excellent performance during this past year. It is frequently said that practice makes perfect. While not perfect, it is patently obvious that he made full use of the lessons learned during his first year in office, and represented New Hampshire in an exemplary manner during his second. Well done, sir. Most Excellent Sir, it has been a pleasure working with you during the past Capitular year, and we thank you for the privilege of serving this Grand Chapter as your Jurisprudence Committee.
