2 WHAT S YOUR WALL? These are the memoirs of Nehemiah son of Hacaliah. In late autumn, in the month of Kislev, in the twentieth year of King Artaxerxes reign, I was at the fortress of Susa. 2 Hanani, one of my brothers, came to visit me with some other men who had just arrived from Judah. I asked them about the Jews who had returned there from captivity and about how things were going in Jerusalem. 3 They said to me, Things are not going well for those who returned to the province of Judah. They are in great trouble and disgrace. The wall of Jerusalem has been torn down, and the gates have been destroyed by fire. 4 When I heard this, I sat down and wept Nehemiah 1:1-4a (NLT) Dear members & friends of the Dodgeville UMC, What s your wall? I m referring, of course, to the story of Nehemiah in the Old Testament. If it s been a while since you ve read that story, take a few moments and do that, as your New Year begins. And, in particular, pay attention to Nehemiah, Chapter 6, when you get there. (My New Year message on Sunday, Dec. 28, referred to this too.) This is where Nehemiah goes back to Jerusalem, offers the faithful who ve returned to Jerusalem some much-needed leadership, and rebuilds the wall of Jerusalem, restoring to her some security, some national pride, and so forth. The actual wall of Jerusalem was Nehemiah s one thing he had to do for God! And, in spite of much opposition, he was able to accomplish the task Continued

3 One thing I do know, whatever that one thing is you re supposed to do in 2015 your life will be so much better once it is completed, once the change has taken place, or once you ve accomplished what God wants you to be about in So, what is that one thing for you? Nehemiah knew that if he didn t accomplish one more thing in the coming year, he had to rebuild the wall of Jerusalem (and he did!). What s the one thing you need to do in 2015 that God is calling you to do? What is God nudging your heart about right now? What needs to change in 2015 so that you can experience the kind of freedom God desires you to have in your life? Read the Old Testament book of Nehemiah. Then, pray about it, would you? As we re obedient to what God calls us to today, we ll be blessed beyond measure in the days ahead beyond our wildest imaginations. How about doing things God s way this year? Are you willing to take that step of faith? Happy New Year in Christ, Pastor Rom CHOIR NEWS The Choir will rehearse on Wednesday, January 14, at 7:00PM in the music room. We are scheduled to sing on Sunday, January 4 and Sunday, January 18. We will rehearse at 8:15AM before the morning services. We are planning to perform at the annual Ringing in the New Year Concert, scheduled for Sunday, January 25, at 4:00PM. We will rehearse at approximately 3:30 before that concert. We welcome new and returning singers at any time.

With the New Year in mind, with all of our many New Year resolutions, we begin a new worship series at the end of January It's called... BOD 4 GOD: Honoring God with My Body Sunday, January 25 - Honoring God with My Body: Dedication Sunday, February 1 - Motivating Myself for Change: Inspiration Sunday, February 8 - Managing My Habits: Eating & Exercise Sunday, February 15 - Making My Bod 4 God Stick We do hope that you will join us for this great way to kick off the New Year and our lives together. This series will then take us up to the Season of Lent.

5 UNITED METHODIST WOMEN As there are no meetings scheduled for January this is a brief early notice of the February events: The UMW will meet on Thursday, February 5, at 7:00PM in Fellowship Hall for the annual Installation of Officers. The Executive Board will meet at 6:30 in the Library. The Executive Board members will act as hostesses. The Evening Star Circle will meet on Monday, February 9, at 7:00PM in Fellowship Hall with Mary Berryman as hostess and Mary James leading the devotions. The Grace Post Circle will meet on Monday, February 16, at 1:30PM with Rosemary Edwards as hostess and Cathryn Tredinnick leading the devotions. COMMUNITY EVENTS Kiwanis Club of Dodgeville Fundraiser Dodgeville Pizza Hut Monday, January 26, :00PM to 8:00PM Come join us for pizza, pasta, salad bar and more. Proceeds will go toward youth programs, scholarships and projects in Dodgeville.

7 2015 Super Bowl of Stewardship Presented by the Wisconsin United Methodist Foundation, the Super Bowl of Stewardship is an excellent opportunity to bring the stewardship or finance teams from your church to learn some of the theology and how-to basics of Church Stewardship. 10 RINGING IN THE NEW YEAR CONCERT SUNDAY, JANUARY 25 4:00 PM BELL CHOIR SENIOR CHOIR MUSICAL SELECTIONS FROM INDIVIDUALS AND OTHER GROUPS Beat the January blahs with wonderful music, under the direction of our own Dan Roble! A lasagna dinner will be held immediately after the concert in the fellowship hall. Baskets will be available for a freewill offering. 12 GIVING TREE This Christmas season we were able to give three families from the Iowa County Adopt a Family a Christmas to remember. Our church also gave generously to Bloomfield Nursing Home residents. Thank you! THANKSGIVING & CHRISTMAS COMMUNITY DINNERS As our 13th year comes to a close; The Iowa County Community Dinners has been such a blessing to so many individuals and families. We served 450 Thanksgiving dinners and 457 Christmas meals to Dodgeville residents, and volunteers delivered meals all over Iowa County.
