1 Evergreen United Methodist Church 1120 Evergreen Court, Wahpeton, ND November, 2018 Upcoming Events at Evergreen Please join members of the worship ministry group as we decorate the sanctuary after the worship service on Sunday, November 25th. The worship ministry group will have a light lunch for those who can stay to help. Many hands lighten labor and it will be a time for great fellowship. The Sunday School Christmas program will be presented during the 10 AM worship service on Sunday, December 16th. Parents, if you could have your children at Sunday School as much as possible, it will help them to feel prepared to do their best that day. We love to see them as much as we can, anyway! Thanks so much. Annual Charge Conference 10 am, Saturday, November 17 Daylight saving time ends remember to fall back on November 3. Please join us on Saturday morning at 10 am, Nov. 17. Our District Superintendent, Rev. Randy Cross, has invited several area churches to join us at Evergreen for one large group charge conference during this time. Together we will take care of the business of each church, as well as share in some time of teaching and learning together. Sunday, November 4 is All Saints Day! Join us for All Saints Day worship, as we come together to celebrate and honor the saints who have passed on in the last year with a time of prayer, thanksgiving, and candle-lighting. We will also share in the sacrament of Holy Communion.

Everyone is invited. UMW News -- "Sacred Spaces: Encounters with God and Neighbors" By Denise Eastin Preparations for our Fall Bazaar were going at full tilt early in October, especially with Bazaar scheduled for October 20th. Thank God for dedication to purpose and an extra measure of good humor and stamina to see us through to that eventful day. And what a day it was! The road closing on 11th Street was a deterrent but the Fall weather blessed us as we arrived at church to welcome the Community in to enjoy the hospitality of our volunteers with shopping, baked goods, and DONUTS. New on the menu this year were 'Soup and Sandwich', specifically Vegetable Beef or Wild Rice Chicken soup, along with a Turkey Sandwich or Ham Sandwich, as well as pie and a beverage. This was quite a change for Evergreen... our Chicken Huntington was 'a given' as far as our Luncheon went. We were concerned that we'd taken a chance in changing the menu. All in all, we were pleased with our success in sales. We were especially pleased with donut sales. Uffda! Once again, they flew out the door. Thank you to all who participated, donated, and prayed for out success. If you haven't yet to experience Bazaar, I urge you to come work with us next year. You'll enjoy a good feeling of camaraderie... a joy knowing you participated in working for mission projects around the world, as well as a joy in contributing to the General Fund of Evergreen UMC. Next year, won't you please encourage all the members of our church to participate in the success of our Bazaar, one way or another? (Cont. Page 3)
3 Care Evergreen United Methodist Church Page 3 (Continued from Page 2) Looking at the bulletin board in our Fellowship Hall, it's evident that we have a lot of talented and friendly people of all ages in our church. Let's join hands and work for God. The next General Meeting of UMW will be held Thursday, November 8 th, at 1:30 pm. This will be our 2019 Installation of Officers meeting. All outgoing and incoming officers should be in attendance, if possible. Hope Circle will offer refreshments. Mary Schradick will present an informative program entitled, Sacred Space of Sharing Food. November is Thank Offering time... remember your offerings when you attend Circle meetings this month. Dakota Conference United Methodist Women members are asked to participate in the UMW Prayer Vigil. Our last vigil of the year is November 20 th, from 2:00 2:45pm, Universal Children s Day. The UN Universal Children s Day was established in 1954 and is celebrated on Nov. 20 th each year to promote international togetherness, awareness among children worldwide, and improving children s welfare. Universal Children s Day offers each of us an inspirational entrypoint to advocate, promote and celebrate children s rights, translating into dialogues and actions that will build a better world for children. 4 Page 4 Evergreen United Methodist Church November, 2018 Boxes of Mac and Cheese Needed for November One Thing by Jan Moore In August 2013, the Missions Committee embraced the idea of One Thing which represents the collection of one designated item each month for a worthwhile cause. Our main goal since the conception of this idea has been to collect food items that are used during the school year in the Back Pack Project. This program sends easy to fix food items home with grade school age children each Friday to supplement their diets for the weekends when they do not receive school meals. Look for the totes in the Fellowship Hall for your donations. BOXES OF MAC & CHEESE are the requested donation for November!! Thank you to everyone who has helped with donations to the Back Pack Project, during the month of October we collected 32 jars of peanut butter and 8 fruit cups. Items that could not be used by the Backpack Program were donated to the Richland-Wilkin Food Pantry. Thank you for your support of this ministry!! Missions Committee met for a meeting and decided the 2018 Christmas Eve offering will be split evenly between the Back Pack Program and UMCOR. The only ones among you who will be truly happy are those who have sought and found how to serve. -Albert Schweitzer Monthly Offering Totals for October: $17, Monthly Need: $20, Noisy Bucket Offering: $ Evergreen Youth It has been a wonderful and full month for our youth! 6 Respond Page 6 Evergreen United Methodist Church November, Fall Bazaar Update By Dianne Millar Many thanks to those who helped in any way with the fall bazaar!! We had a great day sharing our hospitality with family and friends from the Twin Town communities and surrounding area. The soup and sandwich lunch was well attended and received many compliments. Approx. 380 dozen bags of donuts, a variety of baked goods and canned goods, craft/sewing projects, and donations of assorted items to Grandma's Attic offered something for everyone. As of October 22, our income from the bazaar was $ ; expenses for the lunch and donut supplies, to date, are $ Net profit, at this time, is $ Overall, another successful bazaar for UMW's designated mission projects and the ministries at Evergreen UMC. Thank you!!
7 Pastoral Letter Evergreen United Methodist Church Page 7 As I sit to write this article, I am reflecting on the gift of abundance. Indeed, at Evergreen, our life and ministry together is abundant. Abundant with energy and joy as we work together on the daily tasks of ministry. Ever since attending the REACH Conference in Sioux Falls on October 5-6 (along with Tiana Bohn, lay leader, and Sandy Olson, Administrative Council Chair), I have been reflecting on the abundance of gifts represented here at Evergreen. From the gift of music on Sunday mornings, to the justice and mission-focused UMW, to the long hours of service put forth to provide fellowship opportunities such as the Fall Bazaar opportunities to get involved and see the work of God in our midst are unending abundant. Evergreen is overflowing with abundance in other ways, too. Such as the number of gifted persons who serve in myriad ways, from nominated leadership roles, to helping facilitate a dialogue on Financial Giving and why Evergreen s new Legacy Fund is important (thanks, George Bassingthwaite!). And for those among us who aren t quite sure we re using our gifts in the best ways possible? It was great to have ten people take part in an all-day discernment event at Evergreen last weekend! Abundance shows up in ways that are less planned, too. It shows up in our shared prayer life, and in the ways we celebrate miracles. In the past few months, we have prayed and received miracles from God when it comes to healing, and health, and joy, and trust. I wish I could share more of these stories of outcomes with you (and I d love to if you stop by some time!), but for the sake of space, let me say: THANK YOU for your abundance of prayers with and for our community! Our lives are different and better for them. They matter: your prayers are changing lives. Thank you!! Second only to prayer, and even then only because it is first based on prayer, I have to say: my favorite place I ve seen abundance overflowing here at Evergreen lately, has been less specific. There s an intangible energy in the air, a hope and a focus on our mission of being faithful disciples of Jesus. The kind that not only helps us but helps us to build up the kingdom, and to live into our mission to Make Disciples of Jesus Christ for the Transformation of the World. As we seek to live into this together, we encounter another kind of abundance: for our life together is abundant with possibilities. All around us, God s presence, God s actions, God s leading, and God s inviting are abundant. How is God abundant and abundantly leading (or interrupting, or inviting, or offering grace) in your life? In the months to come, I hope we can share more of our stories of abundance together. Wherever God s abundance is evident in your life: won t you consider sharing your story of abundance? In Ministry Together, Pastor Jen
