Charleston, SC renovate old spaces, reorganize current spaces, and designate new purposes for existing spaces that align with our values, mission, and strategies. To get there we need everyone s time, talent, and tithe. We also need everyone s prayers, cooperation, and commitment. As in any family, loving each other well means learning how to love each other better. Bethany s growing edge is to invest more resources in families and new friends so that our future might be rich in the love of God. Growing God s Family of Friends! The Listening Tour results are in. Bethany UMC values Friendship, Family, and the Future. God has uniquely gifted and called Bethany to be friends of God and friends to all and we are growing! In 2019, Bethany UMC is finding new ways to extend God s friendship to others, grow families, and invest in the future by investing in things that last. From our recent sermon series on Christian values, we ve learned that our priorities must follow our values. In preparation for 2019, a short-term visioning team is meeting to prioritize our goals and strategies towards aligning our ministry with our mission. This team will present short-term goals to the congregation in January as 2019 s leaders begin another year of ministry. In the meantime, please pray without ceasing as God calls each of us and all of us together into the very life of God as a growing family of friends for the sake of the future. May God Bless You and Make You a Blessing, Pastor Cindy Muncie To grow we must address some happy problems, we need more space! We need new spaces for children, youth and families. To create these spaces we will 1

4 Gospel Singing and Cookout Weekend Epworth UMC has a singing quartet on Saturday night, Nov. 3 at 6:00 pm. The church is located at 1540 Camp Rd. On Sunday afternoon, Nov. 4 th the praise bands of Epworth and Bethany UMC will join together for an afternoon of singing your favorite songs. There will also be a cookout with hot dogs, baked beans, chips and a special desert. Bring your family and friends, bring a blanket or your lawn chairs and meet us on the church lawn. Dedication Thank You A BIG THANK YOU goes out to Mike and Suzi Taylor, Gloria Welch, and Lorine Fernandes for the makeover of the ladies room. It looks great and you all did an AWESOME JOB! Pulpit Guests Upcoming pulpit guesst for November are Rev. Andrew Jones from Hospice Chaplaincy on Nov. 11 and Rev. Aaron Meadows from the Charleston Wesley Foundation on Nov. 25. Stewardship If you are unable to turn in your Commitment Card on Sunday, Nov. 4 you can still do so. Just turn it in to Melinda in the office. This vital information of your estimated giving helps Pam Riggs and the Finance Team know how to plan for our growth throughout the next year. Tithing is a spiritual discipline and means of grace, a way of recognizing the Grace we receive every day and extending that Grace to others by sharing. On Sunday, Nov. 25, we will be dedicating the new Clavinova. Please join us at 4:00 pm for the dedication followed by a concert. Future Plans The Children s department is undergoing a makeover. Wanda Meyer, Children s Coordinator, is revamping the small group hour for the children and families. In 2019 a new rotation model will begin every Sunday from 10:15 am-11:00 am. Please be in prayer as the families and leaders create new opportunities for growth. Children s meeting November 13 at 7:00 pm Giving changes us. Regular tithing reminds us of God s daily gifts to us, allows us to participate in His mission in our neighborhood, and it helps us live according to our Christian values. Our giving is a partnership with God. However, the average tither is 2.6% or less of ones annual take-home income. We can do more! We would like every Bethany family member to commit to giving 10% of their income as a spiritual discipline in This sign act of worship and faith is the floor of our giving, not the ceiling. By putting to work our generosity muscles, we become stronger in our commitments in other areas of life as well. Brothers and sisters, let s live generously and grow God s family of friends for the future! 4
