As many of you know, the state has been discussing and looking for possible solutions for numerous years. The solution, as proposed now, may cause several issues for our church in the future and has myself and several other members very concerned. The GDOT is proposing to move GA Hwy. 16/Salem Road west of its current location starting about two-tenths of a mile north of Spring Road in an arc and rejoin the current Salem Road between near Salem Circle. The current stretch of Salem Road where the arc starts and ends will be renamed Salem Campground Road. As proposed, our church will lose all visibility to the traffic flow of the new stretch of road. People will have to go out of their way to find our church not only on Sunday mornings but for any other times where we are offering ministry opportunities to our community. The Salem Campground Road will be a dead end northbound. Those travelling southbound will have to go out of their way to find our church. (Northbound traffic will have access via Salem Campground Road, but the church may not be visible for the northbound traffic. The naming of Salem Campground Road will be problematic for us. Our church has been in this area for almost 00 years and we operate 4/7, 365 days a year. The Campgrounds are used for one week a year. Salem Church Road seems like a better solution but then again without our visibility to main road, this may become a moot point. We need your help. The deadline for comments and concerns to the GDOT is Thursday, February 8. Please take time to let them know that you too are concerned about the future of our church with the proposals as they are now given. You can contact the GDOT electronically at From the menu, select the Newton county and click go. Select the SR16/Salem Road Improvements Project. Then click on the comment section, follow the directions and leave your comments. 2 PAGE SALEM SIGNAL Missions Luncheon Missions Committee is hosting a Spaghetti/ Lasagna luncheon on Sunday, February 4 after the 11:00 service in the Family Life Center to raise funds for Richard & Amanda Coleman and family. They will be leaving in March to serve as missionaries in Ethiopia. Forms will be available if you would like to become a monthly partner. 3 United Methodist Youth Fellowship (UMYF) welcomes all youth from 6 th 1 th grades. UMYF meets during the school year in the Choir Suite. Please see below the schedule of activities for February. Come to church, UMYF and Sunday School and invite your friends! UMYF will meet in the Choir Suite from 5:00-7:00 pm on Feb. 4th and. 5th. Games will be from 5-5:30; light supper will be served and then our lessons will come from the Credo confirmation series. Valentine s Dinner: Saturday, Feb. 10 at 6:00. There are many needy families in our community during the holidays. Remember Publix has buy one get one FREE items each week. Please help us fill the food barrels for those who are needy in our area. Chick Fil A Calendars The Missions Committee is selling Chick-fil-a calendars. The cost is $8.00. There are a limited number so get yours early. Please see Carol or contact the church office. BackPack Buddies We are collecting food for BackPack Buddies. We supply nutritious food items for the weekend for children who may not have adequate food. Listed on the bulletin board in the office hallway are the food items in individual servings that are needed each week. There is a container under the bulletin board to put your food for Back Pack Buddies. Women s Shelter Items that the ladies can use are facial tissue, toilet tissue, and other personal items. Please bring your items by the church office and we will get them to the shelter. As you are traveling, please be sure to bring back any extra toiletry items.
