Box 846 Harvard, IL Church ww.fpcharvard.org MAY 2018 Announcement about Pastor Tom s departure On Sunday, March 25th at an Executive Session meeting, the Session had to make a very difficult decision. Because of a shortage of funds, and the inability to see a way to increase revenue, it was with deep regret that they had to invoke the 30- day termination clause in Pastor Tom s contract. Pastor Tom s final Sunday was April 22nd. The Session would like to express their deepest appreciation to Pastor Tom for his dedicated service to us. We now call on the church to pray that God will provide every need for Pastor Tom and his family and lead him to that next place of ministry. We also request your prayers for Session as they work with Pastor Bob Kopp to put together a new plan. We are claiming the verse that Pastor Tom shared at his last meeting with Session from Proverbs 3:5-6. Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.

2 2 COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIPS Applications must be returned to the Foundation BY MAY 1, 2018 available to both High School Senior Church Members and Adult Church Members seeking to further their education. Applications available in the office workroom. or from any Foundation Member. Do you know that you can light our Memorial Candle on Sunday in memory of a loved one? This is done prior to the beginning of worship. Just make arrangement with the office prior to the day you would like to do this. Give Janet a note stating who is lighting the candle and for whom She will see that it gets placed on the screen announcements for that day. You are invited to place flowers in the Sanctuary in honor of or in memory of someone and have it printed on the screen. Just give Janet a call and give her the information. CHRISTIAN EDUCATION ANNUAL RUMMAGE SALE JULY 13 TH AND 14 TH It s that time of year for boxing up those gently used items to donate to our annual Rummage Sale. Beginning May 1, 2018 until July 11 th, we will be collecting clean gently used items for the rummage sale for pre-pricing. However, PLEASE do not bring in your larger items or furniture until July 8th as we don t have room to store larger items ahead of time. Please place your Rummage Sale items in the Mission Lighthouse room just outside the Fellowship Hall. We cannot accept old TVs or outdated computers. Any Questions: Please contact Mary Joslyn

3 3 If you take a picture of something or someone at the church, it would be great if we could share it on our website or Facebook BUT legally in order to do this we MUST have a photo release signed from the person/s in the photo. These forms are available in the office. Return signed forms to the office for filing. Thank you. Both our Foundation and Stronghold offers scholarships. The first two envelopes in your box of envelopes are very important. 4 4 FOUNDATION Meets on Thursday, May 3rd at 6:30 pm CHIMES, SCREEN AND BULLETIN ANNOUNCEMENT DEADLINES Bulletin and screen announcements MUST be in by 9 am the Wednesday morning before that Sunday. Any screen announcement that is requested to be printed in the bulletin MUST be approved by Session due to the limited free space available in the bulletins. For the CHIMES you must have your signed article in by 9 am the morning of the 21st [Disclaimer: All articles will be printed as is as content/spelling is responsibility of submitted author] IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR CHIMES ARTICLES: We follow guidelines for non profit organizations bulk mailing restrictions. These restrictions relate to the type of advertisements allowed: the advertisement of a product, service or announcement of an activity must substantially contribute to one or more of the purposes on which our organization is authorized. Restrictions also apply to cooperative mailings, credit, debit, charge or similar financial instruments, or advertisements. These restrictions became effective on October 1, CHIMES usually available on-line on church s website after the 26th of each month. There will be paper copies of the CHIMES available in the Narthex after its completion each month

5 5 POP TOP COLLECTION PROGRAM: Little things can make a big difference. You can help the Ronald McDonald House in Chicago by saving the little tabs you pull to open soda, soup, or other aluminum cans. The funds generated from recycling these aluminum gems help offset the House s expenses. McHenry County s Home Community Education Association which is part of the University of Illinois Extension has been collecting pop tabs for many years. Last year they delivered over 72# to the Ronald McDonald House in Chicago. You can help by bringing your tabs to the church and placing them in the box by the door of the work room. If you are unable to clean your month please find a fill in. Change of Address? Change of Phone?? Please keep the office updated of these changes by filling out a form for our database you can find in the Narthex and returning it to Janet as soon as possible. Our 50+ Year Members will be recognized at our 10 am Worship Service on Sunday, June the 10th. The Deacons will host a cake reception in their honor following Worship. On May 13th, 2018 at the 10 am Worship, the Christian Education Committee will be honoring all of our church graduates, 8 th grade, High School, and College graduates. We also will be welcoming into new membership this year s Communicants Class as new members and also welcoming a New Adult member. Please join us for this special occasion during Fellowship Time hosted by our Christian Education Committee.

GROCERY RECEIPTS CAN NOT BE SUBMITTED IF THEY ARE MORE THAN 4 MONTHS OLD. Return your receipts as soon as possible to the church with a Funds for Friends Sticker on the back and place them in the container in the Narthex under our bulletin board. Shop on line at to sign up. Enter your cause as First Presbyterian Church of Harvard to earn us a % of your purchase for any of over 900 popular online sites. Many of the sites are linked to igive.com, so once signed up, when you make a normal purchase we will receive the donation automatically. 8 8 FORGIVEN Quartet has been spreading the good news of Jesus Christ through song and testimony for 37 years with an emphasis on the smooth harmonies exemplifying southern gospel music. The group routinely performs at Silver Dollar City in Branson, MO, has recently signed an exclusive artist agreement with The Song Garden Music Group out of Chesapeake, VA and recently performed on the main stage at the National Quartet Convention in Louisville, KY as a result of winning a National Quartet Convention Regional Artist Showcase Event. There will be returning here on Sunday, May the 27th at 6:30 pm. There is NO Charge for their concert but a free-will offering will be taken.
