1 Joplin Church of the Nazarene District HIGHLIGHTS Spring Dear Joplin District Ministry team, My heart is overwhelmed with a sense of gratitude and praise. God has been good! Thank you for the warm welcome extended to Cheri and I. Thanks for all the wonderful words, thoughts and gifts we received through the Christmas season. Your kindness has made the transition to this new ministry assignment enjoyable. Praise God for the wave of excitement and energy for the mission, To make Christlike Disciples, across the district. We can say with the Apostle Paul in Acts 26:19, I was not disobedient to the vision from heaven. In each church we visit a sense of the vision seems alive and growing. In 2010 our Church, from its mission, To make Christlike Disciples in the Nations. developed a 5 point strategy to fulfill this great vision. My prayer for you today is that every Church, Pastor and laymen will recognize these strategies and respond seriously to a few questions that relate to each. Pastor and lay person, please take time to prayerfully and thoughtfully answer the questions below for Rev. Mark Bane each strategy, as they relate to your local context. These are questions I am asking as I search my heart for methods to make our district as effective as God wants it to be in accomplishing the mission. I believe God has answers as we continue searching for tools to fulfill the dream of depopulating hell on the Joplin District. 1. Intentional leadership development. Questions we need to answer: A. Do you have a plan and a system to develop leaders in your local church? Is it working? B. Who is God identifying in your church that could be a leader moving forward? C. Why not make a list of prospective leaders and begin praying for their development. 2. Vibrant Church renewal. Questions we need to answer: A. Is my church plateaued or in decline? What would God have us do to bring vibrancy back? B. What steps can we take to insure our churches are at their highest level of effectiveness? C. Are we willing to identify and help churches that have plateaued or begun to decline? 3. Clear theological identity. Questions we need to answer: A. Do our congregants understand the distinctive holiness message we passionately proclaim? B. Are pastors regularly articulating the Biblical message of Christian holiness from our pulpits? C. What steps are we taking to insure our distinctive doctrine is embraced by our people? 4. Passionate missional outreach. Questions we need to answer: A. Do our churches take seriously our primary task of making Christlike Disciples? B. Are we evaluating the ministries of our local church to insure they are working to that end? C. Are people being converted and discipled in our local churches or are we perpetuating a culture of church business to the exclusion of our mission? D. What outreach events or activities are happening in my local church to insure we are missional? 5. New start development. Questions we need to answer: A. Are our churches aware that the most Biblical and effective method of making disciples is through new start development? B. What is your church s vision for partnering or planting a new Church in the next three years? As we come to the close of another year in the Church I encourage each of us to re-evaluate our purpose and the purposes of our weekly activities. We have much reason for hope, our pastors are gifted, our laypeople committed, our cities needy and the Holy Spirit is eager to help. That is a formula for victory. I am praying for you as you finish this year strong! Honored to serve, Mark J Bane District Superintendent
