3 Red Lodge Community Church Council Minutes, July 11, 2017 The Council meeting was called to order by Moderator, Debbie Awes Pastor Chuck opened with prayer. In attendance: Debbie, Pastor Chuck, Shirlee Quinn, Sharon Roat, Debbie Tomicich, Dixie McCampbell, Loretta Sironen, Skip Bratton, Martha Sobral, Shirley Petersen. Financial Secretary, Sharon Roat reported she will be moving, so resigning post and Debbie Tomicich will be assuming that position. Year to end of June statements have been sent. Treasurer, Shirlee Quinn reported that the church is approximately $3500 ahead of budget. However, it was pointed out that $6000 was deposited to general fund from Endowment funds. Pastor Chuck reported that attendance is down, but it is the norm for summer. A wedding is scheduled at the church for Aug. 5 th. A reminder that he will be taking a vacation in August and will not be at church the 20 th. Debbie Awes, Moderator welcomed Debbie Tomicich as our Financial Secretary. She also announced there will be two new committees Memorials and Bylaws. seconded Facilities Management, Skip Bratton, reported the spending is $700 over budget to date. The pew project is a week behind schedule. A payment of $5,830 is now due. Dixie moved and Martha seconded Old pews are sold to a local wedding venue and will be picked up July 17 th. Christian Ed, Deb Awes reported that finding and hiring a Youth Director is under way. Stewardship & Missions, Shirley Petersen reported that a Memorial Policy draft has been submitted to Council for consideration. Council was asked to review and recommend ideas. Draft was laid aside until next meeting. Bylaws, Pastor Chuck reported that committee has met and is developing plans for the revisions. They will be meeting with each ministry for ideas. Old Business none New Business Loretta stated that the Endowments interest funds that were put into the general budget is not in keeping with history of Endowment fund uses. Dixie stated that this was a onetime use of some of the funds and consideration is being given to future use of monies in reserve. Pastor Chuck said that he and Patti will not be exercising the refinance from the church funds. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned. In attendance: Debbie, Pastor Chuck, Sharon Roat, Debbie Tomicich, Dixie McCampbell, Shirley Petersen. Financial Secretary, Debbie Tomicich reported that Cheryl & David Whitcomb gave $ in memory of Byron & Louise Whitcomb. Monies to be for Building Fund. An anonymous cash gift of $ was given to be used for new stained-glass panel in Upper Room. Treasurer The balance sheet was distributed and we are operating within budget. Pastor - Chuck reported that Kaleva service is Sunday and all is in order for the service and luncheon. September 10 th will begin the Bible study of the Book of Amos. A book about forgiveness will be the study subject for Wednesday evenings, beginning September 13 th. Pastor scheduled balance of vacation time 11/21/17-11/28/17 and 12/26/17 1/2/18. Continuing education 10/24/17 10/31/17. Attendance is slightly down from 2016 but up significantly from Debbie Awes, Moderator reported that Steve & Sue Roi have resigned from Personnel Ministry. Renee Gabrian will be the Council recording secretary beginning in September. Facilities Management, printed report distributed and recorded. Christian Education, Chuck reported for Erinn, stating that there have been no replies to ad for Christian Education director. Dixie will post on Red Lodge Buzz. Alicia is reviewing new curriculum. Stewardship & Missions, Shirley Petersen presented the revised Memorial Policy. Debbie Tomicich moved that the policy be accepted. Dixie McCampbell seconded. All approved. The 2018 Stewardship Campaign is set to kick off September 10. Bylaws, Pastor Chuck reported that committee is working on next steps of the Bylaw revision. Old Business none. Harvest Dinner This year the Harvest Dinner will be Sunday, November 5, Serving hours will be noon until 5:00 p.m. Chairs are again Don and Karen Kinney, Judy and Jodie Christensen. Soon you will be able Harvest to sign up for side Dinner dishes and your favorite jobs. See you there!!! (Without an active women s group, the bazaar is still in question.) Fall Book Study: Why Won t You Apologize by Harriet Lerner, PhD Beginning September 20, 2017 Wednesdays 7:00 p.m. Upper Room The Columbus Community Congregational Church invited us to their Annual Bluegrass Worship service and cookout on Sunday, September 24, A local bluegrass band will lead worship at 10:30 a.m. Following worship, the band will continue in the Fellowship Hall during the cook-out lunch (11:30). Lunch will be grilled burgers and brats/hot dogs. Bring a dish to share. If you are available to just join the fun for the cook-out and concert at 11:30 a.m., you are welcome!
