1 NEWS FALL 2016 Denver, CO VOLUME XXIII ISSUE IV 1370 GRANT STREET (303) From the Secretary s Desk By Matt Raia, 33 What s been happening around the Consistory? Since the last edition of the Newsletter, we ve made a number of significant presentations, both at our stated meetings and in person for those who were unable to attend a meeting for any reason. 25-year Membership Certificates and Pins Theodis Webster Brown, Jr., 32 Kenneth Edward Bruso, 32 Michael Stephen Guerra, 32 Gene E. Rodaway, year Membership Certificates, pins, and hats Claude Akridge, 32 James C. Carner, 32 James Dolbier, 32 Thomas Goodyear, 32 Lyman Green, Jr., 32 Hollis Howerton, 32 Edward William Richards, 32 Richard E. Williams, year Membership Certificate and pin Carl William Johnston, 32 The 10 th Annual Denver Consistory Shrimp Boil was held July 16. Those of you who did not attend missed a fun evening. The 75 who were present enjoyed entertainment by J. Walker and the Pedestrians prior to dinner. Then, for dinner, we had delicious all-you-caneat peel-and-eat shrimp, corn-on-the-cob, smoked sausage, boiled potatoes, chicken fingers, salad, and dessert. As a friend of mine who is a shrimp lover would say, those shrimp were three-biters. Why is all the scaffolding on the roof? The roof, which was damaged in a hail storm last September, is finally being replaced. It is anticipated that the project should be completed by mid-october. Then we can begin the water damage repair to the interior of the building. The September 19 7:00 PM Stated meeting was the Annual Scottish Rite Foundation report and scholarship presentations to the following very deserving Graduate students: Saȋ Rajopadhye, UNC Chloe Shaw, CU-Boulder Jenah Newman, CU-Boulder Hannah Mellman, CU-Boulder Anna Meihaus, CU-Boulder Dr. Rosemary McKnight, CU-Boulder SUPREME COUNCIL MEETS IN DENVER August the Supreme Council met at the Hyatt Hotel in the Denver Tech Center.
2 The members of the Denver Consistory Knights of Saint Andrew served as airport greeters and drivers. Properties were brought from Denver Consistory to the hotel for the Supreme Council meeting. Thank you to the following individuals who assisted with the Supreme Council meeting: Larry Tygart, Walt Martin, Keith Anderson, Doug Peterson, Mike Rowan, John Warren, Billy Benyak, Thayne Coulter, Loren Kohler, Hunter McCallum, Randy Penn, Bart Wegner, Jim Preston, and Rich England. The Supreme Council was very appreciative of your assistance and the excellent job you did providing transportation for them. The Sovereign Grand Commander expressed to Illustrious Brother Munsinger, more than once, his thanks and appreciation for your efforts. Each of you played a very significant role ensuring that our guests had a pleasurable experience. Thank you for your hard work and all you did to assist the Supreme Council. THANK YOU! I want to thank Illustrious Brother Eddie McGrady, 33 and Brother Jerry Rice, 32 KCCH for their hard work on several projects. They removed the broken tiles on the camp logo and dug out the cement and dirt so that new cement could be poured and the logo repaired. Then they cleaned the logo and applied a sealant. They both cleaned the trash and weeds out of the window wells. Jerry also power-washed the steps from the back door of the kitchen leading up to the alley. There were several minor repair/ maintenance items which they completed as well. Their time and effort has made the building look better and definitely saved us LOTS of money if we had to hire someone to do this work. From the Secretary s Desk - CONTINUED Another unsung hero is Illustrious Brother Jim Preston, 33. Jim spends the entire day here, every Friday, doing fix-it-up, clean-it-up projects. As with any building, there is always work that needs to be done and Jim is always willing to get it done. They may not be big projects but they are necessary everyday maintenance items which are taken for granted, and if left undone become big projects. If it were not for the help of Eddie, Jerry, and Jim, the maintenance and repair budget for Denver Consistory would be double or triple what it is. I definitely appreciate their efforts and I know you do too. So, the next time you see these Brothers, give them a big THANK YOU! KING SOOPERS NEIGHBORHOOD REWARDS PROGRAM. The Scottish Rite Masonic Center is a participant in the King Soopers Neighborhood Rewards Program, whereby King Soopers makes periodic donations to the Scottish Rite Masonic Center.
