Lexi Platz. Lexi will be our new Safe Environment and Liturgical Coordinator. Her duties will include managing the supplies needed for Masses, including ordering of bread, wine and candles, etc. She will also assist in the preparation of the church for Sacramental occasions and complete the liturgical schedules. Lexi also works a FT job outside of the church, so she will be doing her work behind the scenes and Sheri will assist her when needed. Please welcome Lexi to the staff. We are glad to have him rejoin our church. THANK YOUS. Thank you to the following parishioners who assisted in a Fall cleanup of the cemetery: Ben Stadick, Karl and Lilly Lindquist, Mark & Dale Hoffmann, Bruce, Kolbe, Jarrett and Logan Platz and Paul Guggisberg. Thank you to an anonymous HCAFC parish family that donated copies of a Matthew Kelly Book for all households. The book was handed out in mid December. If you did not receive a copy, please check at the back of church. Thank you to the Berdan family for the recent donation to a Memorial fund in honor of Leon Berdan. The family has requested that the funds be used for trees and landscaping.
3 THANK YOUS (continued) We would like to thank all the CCW ladies for sharing their time and talent to help make this year s Cookie Walk a success. We had a large selection of cookies, a delicious lunch and a great turnout. A special thank you to the ladies of Circles 3 and 4 who went out of their way to help. The success of the cookie walk would not have been accomplished without each one of you. The winner of the raffle for the Nativity Set was Steve Turvold of New Ulm. ~Co-Chairs Kay Hoffmann, Mary Lou Schmidt, Karen Arlandson and Terri Fitterer Thank you to everyone that assisted with the Advent and Christmas events and Masses throughout the season. Included are those that decorated the Church environment, choir members, music prelude performers, Eucharistic Ministers, ushers, gift bearers, musicians, lectors, commentators and the clergy as well as anyone we may have missed. Also thank you to Carl and Michelle Oswald for providing a light meal for the Christmas decorating crew on 12/23/17 Bad Weather In case of bad weather, please listen to KNUJ Radio for any Masses or events that may be delayed or canceled. For weekdays a general rule of thumb is if school is canceled or closes early, no Masses or faith formation events will take place. Altar Servers: Is your child in 4th grade or above? Are they interested in learning to become an altar server? Please contact the church office and let Sheri Liebl know. Training will be held after the holidays. Mass Intentions are a wonderful way to show love and compassion and friendship. If you would like to have a Mass said in honor of a loved one or to celebrate a special occasion, please complete a Mass Intention envelope and return it in the collection basket. Looking for a way to donate towards the church. Here are a few ideas Building Projects and/or Repair This year s DMA project is an update to the Reconciliation/Cry Room and the women s restroom. Twenty percent of every dollar donated to the DMA comes back to St. Gregory s and is put towards this specific project. Parishioners are also welcome to make a separate donation to this project by using the special envelopes at the back of church or just a note designated funds to this project. Tree replacement As most of you know, several large trees needed to be removed in front of church and the rectory due to safety issues because of internal rot issues. The Admin. Council has already discussed replacement of these trees and will gladly accept monetary donations to help cover these costs or replacement trees. Cemetery Care/Upkeep or Angel Garden This could be for Perpetual Care, beautification or creation of an Angel Garden What a wonderful way to honor our family, friends, neighbors, etc. that have passed before us Annual Parish Information Gathering will be held Sunday, January 28, 2018 following the 10:30 A.M. Mass. All St. Gregory Parishioners are invited. This will be a potluck meal followed by updates from our church organizations and a 2017 Harvest Festival update. Parishioners will also be able to express thoughts in relationship to the direction of the church and. watch for more information in future bulletins.
4 Please pray for the youth of our parish as they travel in their faith journey to reach special Keagan Weikle Reconciliation took place in November and First Communion will be held Sunday, April 22 at 10:30 AM at St. Gregory s Cassidy Platz, Jennifer Wear and Jay Webster will receive the Holy Spirit during Confirmation on Saturday, May 12, 5:30 P.M. Mass with the Bishop at St. Mary s in New Ulm. Hayley Hoffmann and Kendra VanDeest 2018 Graduates who will be honored at a special breakfast and at the Baccalaureate Mass on Sunday, May 20 at St. Gregory s. Upcoming Church and Community Events Thursday, January 11 - All women of the parish are welcome to partake in the CCW meeting this evening at 6:30 P.M. in the social Hall. Arlene Phillips will lead the program on the Leadership Commission and Shirley Berdan is the hostess for the meeting. Sunday, January 14 - Lafayette Lions Waffle Breakfast and Silent Auction Fundraiser event will be held in assist Delsin Zamzow in making his home handicap accessible as he recovers from a accident. The event will be held at the Lafayette Charter School from 9 A.M. to 1 P.M. Silent Auction donations would be greatly appreciated and can be dropped off at Dave's Place in Lafayette through Jan. 12 or at the Charter School by 8:30 a.m. on Jan. 14 Sunday, January 28 - St. Gregory s Annual Gathering/Meeting will take place following the 10:30 AM Mass. This will be a potluck event with plates, utensils, beverage and napkins provided. Come hear the yearly summary of the Church in general including the Harvest Festival as well as updates from the CCW, COF and Cemetery. This is a great opportunity. Please bring a dish to pass. Monday, January 29 All are welcome to join the Area Fields of Grace churches in a Community Bible Study at Big Dogs in Lafayette from 9:30 to 10:30 A.M. Sunday, February 5 - Join us for fellowship during the Donut Sunday following Mass. The CCW hostesses will be Michelle Oswald and Mary Lou Schmidt Sunday, February 11 - St. Thomas Court COF will be holding a BINGO event this day. watch the bulletin for more details. Wednesday, February 14 ASH WEDNESDAY MASS Time to be determined. All are welcome to join the CCW in an Ash Wednesday Soup and Sandwich meal following the evening Mass. Save the dates April 24, 2018 A Swedish Choir Concert will be held at Bernadotte Lutheran Church. The choir will be coming from Jonkoping, Sweden and community host families will be needed for one night. Please watch future bulletins and Messenger editions for details. August 12, 2018 St. Gregory s Harvest Festival August 19, 2018 Swan Lake Church will be celebrating their 150 th Anniversary. Please watch future bulletins and Messenger editions for details.
