When does the Triduum begin and end? The Easter Triduum begins with the evening Mass of the Lord s Supper on Holy Thursday, reaches its high point in the Easter Vigil, and closes with Evening Prayer on Easter Sunday. 2. How are the Holy Oils, consecrated and blessed at the Chrism Mass, to be received in the parish? A reception of the oils may take place before the Mass of the Lord s Supper. The oils, in suitable vessels, can be carried in procession by members of the assembly. 3. How does the Adoration of the Holy Cross on Good Friday begin? The Adoration of the Holy Cross begins with one of two forms of the Showing of the Holy Cross. The First Form begins as the deacon or another suitable minister goes to the sacristy and obtains the veiled Cross. Accompanied by two ministers with lighted candles, the veiled Cross is brought to the center of the sanctuary in procession. The priest accepts the Cross and then, standing in front of the altar and facing the people, uncovers the upper part of the Cross, the right arm, and then the entire Cross. Each time he unveils a part of the Cross, he sings the acclamation, Behold the wood of the Cross. In the Second Form of the Showing of the Holy Cross, the priest or deacon goes to the church door, where he takes up the uncovered Cross. Accompanied by two ministers with lighted candles, he processes to the sanctuary, stopping at the door of the church, in the middle of the church, and before entering the sanctuary, to sing the acclamation, Behold the wood of the Cross. 4. When should the Easter Vigil take place? The Vigil, by its very nature, must take place at night. It is not begun before nightfall and should end before daybreak on Easter Sunday. The celebration of the Easter Vigil takes the place of the Office of Readings of Easter Sunday. The Easter Vigil begins and ends in darkness. Fire is blessed and the paschal candle is lighted to illumine the night so that all may hear the Easter proclamation and listen to the word of God proclaimed in the Scriptures. 5. Where is the paschal candle placed during Easter Time? The paschal candle has its proper place either by the ambo or by the altar and should be lit at least in all the more solemn liturgical celebrations of the season until Pentecost Sunday. After Easter Time the candle should be kept with honor in the baptistery, so that in the celebration of Baptism the candles of the baptized may be lit from it. In the celebration of funerals the paschal candle should be placed near the coffin to indicate Christ s undying presence. The paschal candle should not otherwise be lit nor placed in the sanctuary outside Easter Time. Source: and-answers.cfm

4 St Gregory the Great Annual Meeting Minutes (approved 02/21/19) Sunday, January 27, 2019 Mark Schuelke called the meeting to order. Council Members that were present: Mark Schuelke, Carol Hoffmann, Pam Morson, Cheri LeBrun, Rich Schauer, Larry Mages, Carl Oswald and Monsignor Grams. A total of 50 parishioners were in attendance. Opening Comments: Mark open the meeting with introductions of the council. He shared the new administrative council meeting process one parish five sites and that we are working very strongly towards this. Reports were given by the respective committees. Society reports: Harvest Festival: Has been working very well with two co chairs. Funds made from event remain right in the middle of what we have made in the past 10 years. Meal numbers are down a bit but nothing substantial. Any suggestions can be brought to a committee member or Mark Schuelke one of the chairs. COF: Helps support many of the projects we have within church; February 10, 2019 is Bingo Fundraiser for COF; They are offering support to future priest John Hayes and appreciate the support the parish gives to the COF. Cemetery: A new sign was placed at the entrance of the cemetery due to fading of wording. Thank you to everyone who continues to donate to the perpetual care. Are working with CCW ladies to create a children s memorial. Suggestions can be given to Paul Guggisberg or Arlene Phillips. Plots for parishioners are $450, non parishioners are $550. If parishioners are wanting to purchase a plot but unsure whether they need one or two due to potential cremation possibilities. The cemetery will at the time of that decision will reimbursement back plot back at price paid. CCW: There are six meetings a year. The ladies would love to see more participation. Every lady in the parish is an automatic member. The CCW appreciates everyone s support of their sponsored programs and events. Question and Answers: Monsignor Grams updated the parish in regard to where St Gregory s stands with our bankruptcy. Thank you to Betty Maidl for saving proof that we had insurance against these claims and what will be paid out will be mostly by the insurance we have. Our prayers if answered would be to have this behind us in nine months. Our parish vitality was looked at, the lower the number just shows that we are not a growing parish. Within five years we will be down to two priests to serve the five parishes. As a parish we have been proactive in being ready to move in the direction we need to as the supply of priests diminishes. Thank you to the CCW ladies for serving lunch for this event and the members of St Gregory s that took time out of their day to attend this meeting. Respectfully submitted, Cheri LeBrun, Secretary Save the dates...upcoming Church and Community Events Wednesday, April 3, 2019 Easter Choir practice at 6:15 PM Thursday, April 4, 2019 Holy Cross AFC Joint Admin.
