Canaday MUWC Coffee Celebrating 50 YEARS Hosted by Dr. David and Mrs. Kathy Cole Dr. Cole addressed the Club with the follow statement - transcribed by Olivia Franzese, public relations intern at The Catalyst. "The Medical University Women's Club: what is its mission? It is to support MUSC, give scholarships to students, provide fellowship for its members. This group last year actually raised $14,000 in scholarships and awards for students. Why is that important? If I was a student I would say the burden of student debt is significant, and I would say that anything that we can do to help any individual student walk down the pathway to education is purposeful and important. I would be remiss if I didn't say that the strength of MUSC, what makes us special, is the connectivity and the bond among all of us as we work to have impact on people's lives. What a special impact both to have the privilege to be in the space of health care and education. When I found out I had an opportunity to be president of this institution, my initial reaction was 'how

7 humbling.' It's really an honor to have the opportunity to lead such a talented and dedicated group of individuals. And I will tell you to your sense I feel even more strongly now that that is true. I will always feel that as president, it is an honor. So I'll make a statement: My belief, my heart, is that MUSC is a family. This group represents its heart, so thank you for what you do." -Dr. David Cole L to R: Misty Daniels, Kathy Harrison-Rockey.
