1 Cowboy Bulletin Wyoming Knights of Columbus Maria, Mater Dei In Flanders Fields John McCrae, 9. M a y 20 2 In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields. Among our great American traditions is to honor and recognize our mothers during the month of May. This year that special day falls on Sunday, May th. That s the day when Mom becomes queen for a day. We honor her with cards, flowers and excuse her from any of her normal household duties. It s a special time when family members pitch in to make this a great day for Mom to remember. Our Catholic tradition also calls us to honor our Heavenly Mother in many forms during May. You ll notice an increase in signing of Marian hymns at church liturgies. As Knights of Columbus, it s a wonderful time to volunteer to pray the Rosary prior to each Mass. As you pray the rosary and meditate on the mysteries of our Faith, let Mary lead you ever closer to her risen Son. Freedom is never free. It is purchased with millions in treasure and countless lives of brave women and men. On May 0 th each year we remember and honor those brave women and men. Let us join in the ceremonies, provided by our patriotic organizations throughout the nation, in honoring these fallen heroes and proudly wear the red poppy. Thank you, Freedom s Heroes.

2 Cowboy Bulletin May, 202 Page 2 EASTER SEASON We are half way through the Easter Season, which ends with Pentecost. This season emphasizes the RISEN Lord, as does every Sunday. This reminds me of the old Fr. Tom Ogg State Chaplain Jewish story concerning a woman who stopped going to the synagogue. One day the rabbi went to her house and asked to sit with her by the fireplace. For a long time, neither spoke. Then the rabbi picked up a tongs, took a glowing coal from the fireplace, and set it on the hearth. As the two watched, the coal slowly lost its glow and died. A few minutes later, the old woman said, I understand. I ll come back to the synagogue. Is there anything that threatens to cut me off from Jesus and cause me to lose my glow? Certainly missing Mass on Sundays can start the cooling process of our living faith. Sundays are when the resurrection is remembered and relived. This is the Season of new life, renewed hope, and joyful growth by sharing the Good News. Is there anyone who has been cut off from Jesus that I might help, as the rabbi helped the old woman? Can we Knights personally invite another brother Knight back to church or to a council meeting? Isn t it true that we remain spiritually strong (and glowing) as we stay close to each other and the fire of Christ? As you read this, you will also be reading about the State Convention. I am looking forward to sharing with other leaders and good men from around our State some of our accomplishments and new challenges. Just reflect on the Easter Season. And on Jesus words: the Kingdom of God is WITHIN YOU! It is here, now. Alleluia! Rev. Tom Ogg, State Chaplain Greetings to all my Brothers and their families. Thank you so very much for re-electing me to the office of State Deputy for a second term. I pray that I will Don Scott prove to be worthy of State Deputy your trust. The convention was as I ve always remembered as it.. The Rock Springs council can be very proud of their efforts. The preliminary meetings were successful and as we went in to the general sessions, the flow was easy. The transition between the two locations was pleasant and the timing, not to mention the food, was superb. A huge thank you goes out to Father Carl Beavers for his and the parish office staff s hospitality. Buddy and Mary Jo Kaumo, Dwayne Pacheco, and Stan McKee are just four of the people that deserve thanks for the planning phase. The Supreme Representative, David Bellendier and his wife Julie, brought an air of knowledge and humor to the sessions and the banquet. I also want to express my thanks to God for blessing us with Father Ogg as our State Chaplain. I look forward to serving with him and the other officers and chairman during the fraternal year. It was good to meet with all of you and to witness such positive inputs. We will need it in the days and months and perhaps years ahead. The attacks on our religious liberties and our right to act in accordance with our own Catholic Church s teachings will be a huge challenge. The resolution we passed will make our position known and should give us strength to face the fight ahead. A press release will be forth-coming from Supreme so we can get the word out to all our members in order for us to present a united front on these issues. See STATE DEPUTY page 4

Until then we have chosen to highlight the game rules. GAMES FOR LIFE Hide n Seek Abortion premium mandate (Rule and 4). An Individual enrolled in an insurance plan that covers abortions MUST pay an additional surcharge of $ per month. There is no choice of opting out of the plan. Paying for this abortion coverage is imposed whether the individual wants out or not. The rule also contains a clause that prevents insurance plans from letting people know about the required surcharge until time of enrollment. A governmental secrecy-a slight of hand. Results: Wholesale abortions on demand. (Life issues Institute) Dominoes On January 20 th the Department of Health and Human Services made a final decision that would force Catholic institutions to provide health insurance that includes all FDA approved contraceptive methods and sterilization procedures, including several drugs that cause an early abortion by interfering with the implantation of a newly conceived human being. 4 Cowboy Bulletin, May 202 Page 4 STATE DEPUTY (Continued. from Page 2) With just 2 months left in the fraternal year and with May and June being traditionally two excellent months for recruiting, I would ask the councils who have not brought in any new members this year to please increase your recruiting efforts. Make an effort to contact those men who will love to serve with us for the good of our Church and community. A number of councils are within just a couple of new members to achieve their goal and possibly earning the Star Council Award. As an incentive, Grand Knights who achieve their intake quota will receive a KofC shirt. DD s let s get at least 0% of yours for the shirt and all of the GK s. DD s that hit at least 0% will be entered in a gift card drawing. As I have said each month, I will continue to travel around the state to attend meetings or celebrations at your local councils. If you have some activity that I can help with, please ask. If you have a social or special occasion that you are going to celebrate, please let me know in advance. I would very much like to share in your successes. Vivat Jesus, Don Scott, State Deputy Attention V.I.P. Club Members! Earn bonus points for each new member you recruit during May and June. Normally, the Knights of Columbus awards 00 points for each new member. For a limited time (May and June 202) all V.I.P. Club members will receive,000 bonus points. You ll earn a total of,00 Club Points for each new member. Form 00 must be filed between May st and June 0, 202 to qualify for this promotion. Be an active recruiter today! Columbia Council 7789 is sponsoring their annual golf tournament on Sat. June 9th. The golf course is called Leaning Rock and is located in Pine Bluffs. The cost is $20 per person. 4 person teams. Shotgun start time is 0:0. Meet around 9:0 at St. Paul s Parish hall. Lunch is included and is served after the golf games. Refreshments at every hole. During this and next month, Councils will be electing new officers. Please remember to update the state directory with the new information on these officers. Also included are door prizes. There are also hole prizes, longest drive, closest to pin, etc. For more information, contact: Dennis Talich at or Bob Plover at

5 Cowboy Bulletin May, 202 Page s MEMBERSHIP GOAL: One NEW Member Per Council per Month. WYOMING MEMBERSHIP Here we go again right down to the home stretch with less than two months remaining in this fraternal year. Time to make that final score and bring in those members listed on your Council s Prospect list. Now that the convention is behind us it s time to clean up the 20/202 fraternal year. Not much left but to confirm those officer nominations during the May meeting, and elect the leaders who will take your council into the 202/20 year on July st. To the Grand Knights leaving office, I offer my congratulations for a job well done. Perhaps it was not the easiest position you ever held in your council, but I hope that you will look back on it as the Experience of a Lifetime. Thank you for your devotion to the order and your brother knights. By next month s council meeting, many new brothers will be assuming the position of leadership soon after the officer elections. To you newly elected Grand Knights, I pray that your tenure may be successful and fruitful. With the end of the school year and Memorial Day at hand, it seems that things sort of begin to slow down in many organizations. Ours has not escaped that summer season slump. I would encourage each of our councils to continue meeting to plan the fraternal year s activities, budgets, and programs. Each council should also hold at least one activity during June, July, and August. Experience has shown that if a council is inactive during these months, it has difficulty gathering momentum when September comes around. When one looks at the number of new members (9) initiated into the first degree as of May 7 th, I d say that we did quite well in our recruiting efforts. It we could only recruit 7 more members in the remaining months, we could reach 00. I think we re up to that challenge.
