Kristi Moore Cents-Ability originated in 1976 as "Two-Cents-A-Meal," a project begun by Presbyterian Women to involve individuals and families in a corporate response to world hunger. The Presbytery of Middle Tennessee s program is 5 A Meal. BPC s children collects this contribution on the last Sunday of each month during worship. 3 Presbyterian Women sponsor a two-month project to support the Weaver Domestic Violence Shelter. You can take part by donating any cell phones and smart phones---and their batteries--- you are no longer using. The YWCA accepts any cell phone, no matter its condition, and recycles it through its partnership with Shelter Alliance, which provides funding in exchange for each donated phone. The YWCA receives anywhere from $.50 (for obsolete and/or broken phones) to $300 (for newer smart phones in great condition). The Shelter Alliance is a grassroots cell phone recycling program. They have a responsible, zero landfill recycling process. There is a large blue box on the table outside the Church office for your donations. Our collection of cell phones begins March 30 and ends May 31. The Nashville Domestic Violence Shelter is the largest shelter in Tennessee. It is a 51-bed facility that provides temporary housing to women fleeing violent households. It serves single women and mothers with children up to 17 years of age. Last year, more than 350 women and children spent over 16,000 nights at the Weaver shelter. Domestic violence affects people of all ages and backgrounds. Domestic violence is defined as a pattern of behavior in any relationship that is used to gain or maintain power and control over an intimate partner. Abuse can be physical, sexual, emotional, economic or psychological actions or threats of actions that influence another person. This includes any behaviors that frighten, intimidate, manipulate, hurt, humiliate, blame or injure someone. 4 It's softball time again at BPC! The season starts on Thursday, 4/24. For those men who are interested in playing, there will be practices on Thursday 4/3 and Thursday 4/10 at Warner Field from 5:30-7:30. There will also be a brief, informational meeting on the field before the practice on Thursday, 4/3. For those interested, please come to the informational meeting or contact George Zubulake at Click on The Adult Ed Team's vision that the congregation wear name tags at each worship service is closer to fulfillment with the installation of three holders in the Church Entryway. If you have your name tag at home or in your car, please drop it off at the church office. And if you have lost or misplaced your nametag, contact Jan in the church office and she will make another one for you. Let's put a welcoming face with a name in the church directory. You may pick up your tag from the holders (in alphabetical order) on Sunday morning and return same to the designated basket as you leave the service.
