2 ANOTHER YEAR, ANOTHER CHANCE TO GET INVOLVED! Room in the Inn starts Monday, November 4, 2013! YEA! The RITI volunteer book is on the table in the entryway. There are lots of wonderful opportunities for volunteering. We need cooks, servers, dishwashers, people to buy breakfast and lunch items, AND THE MEN CAN EVEN SLEEP OVER! What a deal! If you haven t stayed overnight before and want to be paired with an experienced volunteer, just let me know. If you want to know what it s like, please talk to Howard Thompson, Ben Harrison, Jeff Russell, John Tudor, David Johnson and the many other men who have stayed on a Monday night. Past volunteers know the fellowship involved in participating - they also know how grateful the men are for the good food and hospitality. Please sign up today - the good slots will go fast. Also, new this year, I am encouraging the youth and anyone else interested to bring some checker boards and checkers to play with the men after dinner. I have heard of other churches youth playing simple board games with the men as a way of encouraging conversation and fellowship. Another way you can help is to purchase toiletry items for the toiletry bags. The other day while in Kroger s, I found deodorants on sale for 10 for $10 - the regular price was $2.67 each - a savings of $16.70! More great bargains are to be had for the savvy shopper. Our toiletry bags contain the travel sizes of the following items: shoe laces - at least 40 inches long deodorant hotel size shampoo and conditioner hotel size soap Kleenex - purse size comb (boxes of combs can be had pretty cheaply at Sally s Beauty) travel toothpaste toothbrush tube socks - must be new - send your old ones to Goodwill, please chapstick hand sanitizers flashlights (the ones with batteries for only a dollar at Walmart) We can no longer provide mouthwash unless it contains zero alcohol. Please remember that the items have to be small enough to fit together into a gallon size zip lock bag. If you have any twin size sheets, we could use some as long as they are not tattered and torn. We could also use pillow cases. We do not provide clothing unless it is at Christmas and at that time we give them purchased clothing so that the men are each given the same quantity and quality of clothing. Goodwill would love to have your used clothing. Look for the sign-up book and let s get going with another great Room in the Inn Season. 4 2013 Race for the Cure 5K walk/run on Saturday October 26th at Maryland Farms in Brentwood, TN. The BPC team name is Susan's Village, in memory of Susan Tudor who died August 22, 2008 after a 4 1/2 year battle with breast cancer. Adult participation is $35, children 12 and under are $20. You can also be participate as a Sleep for the Cure member for $40. You may chose to simply donate o the team no amount is too small! 5 FALL DRIVE They are in real need of bras, underpants, slips, socks, and panty hose large sizes. Other needed items are note cards, Christmas Cards, and thank-you cards. Thank you for your continued help with this project. If you have any items you wish to contribute, Deb Thompson and Janet Tudor will be collecting in October and November.
