2 Moderator - Lynn Pinson November 2017 MODERATOR MESSAGE By Butch November 2017 My preacher friend in Wisconsin sends me a daily devotional every morning. One of them contained a quote from Charisma Magazine (never heard of it), and it suggests five (5) top reasons why people leave churches. 1. The preacher didn t shake hands with me when I arrived for worship. 2. The greeters and ushers were not friendly. 3. No one appreciates what I do here. 4. No one wished me a Happy Birthday. 5. Nobody made a visit to my home or prayed with me in the hospital. I can think of a few more shaky reasons, some might be legitimate, but people do have a tendency to blow things out of proportion at times, especially when they get their feelings hurt. Then they start making excuses why they don t come to church. I wonder sometimes if God is taking away people we have relied on for so long from our church to make us depend more, or solely, on Him. My heart sank when Dale read his resignation from the pulpit a few weeks ago. Dale and Lois gone?? How can we keep on? What about the choir? What about Christmas Cantatas? What about those going to sing, He s Alive on Easter Sunday? Who s going to do everything they ve been doing? But God will provide. How do we know that? He has told us repeatedly that He will never leave us or forsake us despite the way things may look right now. In these troubling times especially, we need to rely, depend, and look to our Lord and let Him lead us. Let us all listen to His voice when He speaks! Revival is just a few days away at the time of this writing! Bro. Harold Gaches and Doug Snook from Lawton will be here Sunday, November 5, to lead us in what I hope is a whoop-stomping awaking to our church. I really feel Bro. Harold has something we need to hear. He loves this church even though he and Martha have been gone several years. He not only loves us, he s concerned about us, and wants us to be a strong church. My warmest wishes and prayers for Dale and Lois as they begin a new era in their lives. I hope they can relax more, regain their health, enjoy the kids and grandkids more, and have more time to play. Well done thy good and faithful servant(s)! Pray for our church! Pray for the search committee! Pray for God s wisdom as He leads us all into the bright future of First Baptist Church Tipton! 3 NOTES FROM THE LOFT Greetings brothers & sisters, Writing this last newsletter article is bittersweet. Sunday, October 22, 2017, was both an ending and a beginning for us and for FBC Tipton. We ended 40+ years of ministry with 23+ of those years being spent in Tipton. What a joy it has been. THANK YOU!!! We also began a new chapter in our lives of sitting and soaking for a while to see where God leads us next. You at FBC Tipton are at a crossroads being without a Pastor and Worship Leader at the same time. Our prayer is that God will move on the hearts of men and women to step up and lead in the days ahead and continue the work of the kingdom there in Tipton and all over the world. Be busy spreading the love of Jesus and He will draw men to Himself. THANK YOU for all the kind words and remembrances during Sunday services as we said our good-byes. Lois and I both feel very underserving of all the accolades thrown our way, but we are also deeply grateful. We hope our love of Jesus and His people have shown through and impacted all of you. Thanks also for the many beautiful and touching cards with well-wishes and encouragement and even money and gift cards included. You have always been a generous people, and we have been blessed by you over and over. Time has a way of changing everything and we are no exception. Age and health concerns certainly played a part in our decision to retire. We will be glad to be able (when health allows) to spend more time with family and possibly doing some more traveling. FBC Tipton will always have a warm place in our hearts and memories. Love and prayers to all. May God bless you everyone. 10 Donna Smith s Corner Time to Thank, Time to Share THERE IS HOPE In JESUS? When we are the neediest, Jesus is the most sufficient. When we are completely helpless, Jesus is the most helpful. When you feel totally dependent, Jesus is the most dependable. When we are the weakest, Jesus is the most able. When we are the most alone, Jesus is intimately present. When we feel we are the least, Jesus is the greatest. When we feel the most useless, Jesus is preparing us. When it is darkest, Jesus is the only Light we need. When we feel the least secure, Jesus is our Rock and Fortress. When we feel lost, Jesus is the Way. Thanksgiving is a time to share. A roasted turkey stuffed with care, potatoes, yams and buttered rolls are passed around in festive bowls. But first we thank our God above and share with others his great love. The dish served last is always best a slice of pie for every guest. MaryAnn Sundby The writer of Proverbs 3:5-6 tells us: Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding: In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths. In other words, when we are in the middle of a situation, we must quit trying to figure it out and start leaning on the Lord. Though we may not understand everything, we know that we can trust Him. We can put our faith in Him because He cannot and will not let us down. He is the HOPE we are looking for. That HOPE can only be found in the faith and in the love for our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Heartfelt Thanks He who thanks but with the lips thanks but in part; the full, the true Thanksgiving comes from the heart. J.A. Shedd
