Yows Worship Services 8:30 and 11:00 a.m. Sunday School 9:45 a.m. Pastors Forum Thursdays 1:00 p.m. As we look back upon the Fourth of July weekend, I want to express my thanks to several people. First to Ronda and Dale Rodman who made it possible for The Church at Horseshoe Bay and The Chapel at Horseshoe Bay to participate in this year s Independence Day Parade. As in past years they generously provided their convertible and driver; but this year with a new twist. It was my privilege to ride with Father Bob Scott at my side in a display of ecumenical harmony between the Catholic and Protestant congregations. Our two congregations have had a special bond from the early days of Horseshoe Bay. Father Bob and I have talked about other ways the two congregations might work together as we seek to enhance the spirit of cooperation between the churches. A second thank you goes to our Minister of Music, Larry Sherwood, and the choir for providing outstanding music for both services on 6 July. As many of you know, the choir traditionally takes the summer off after the Fourth of July weekend. We thank them for a great year and look forward to their return after Labor Day. I also wish to thank the Board of Trustees for its superb leadership as we move into the near future. During the tenure of the last Board an outstanding strategic plan was developed to respond to the growth in Horseshoe Bay. The current Board continues to lean forward to tackle the future challenges. I would remind everyone about the congregational information meetings scheduled for the evenings of 16 July and 10 September. If you were unable to attend the last meeting, please plan to attend one of the two remaining meetings to see the fine work these two Boards have done, to ask questions, and to give your input. Your commitment and our Board s leadership is reflected as the church grows with the community. We continue to receive new members. The benevolence program keeps expanding its outreach. Our members continue to volunteer to serve in a wide variety of capacities in the church and in the community. In addition our religious education program will expand this fall by adding a third Sunday School opportunity. The additional class will complement our already excellent program by providing alternatives designed to encourage broader participation in the Sunday morning program. Announcements concerning the new curriculum will be forthcoming. I feel blessed to be a part of this exciting congregation. Thank you for allowing me to serve as one of your pastors. Blessings, Pete

2 Notes of Thanks Quite often Jim and I would say What a beautiful day in Horseshoe Bay. Little did we know that there are as many beautiful people here as there are days. I wish to extend a heartfelt thank you for the many, many prayers, thoughtful acts of kindness, love and support (food, flowers, cards, calls, etc.) that our church family and community have provided and continue to provide for me and our family. A special We extend our Christian sympathies to: thank you to Pete and Johnny for giving us spiritual guidance, and compassion. Dear Pete, Johnny, and Church Family, Your prayers on Erling s behalf are very much appreciated. Thank you! Erling has been in rehab and is getting around very well with the help of his walker. If the medical team at the nursing home can make arrangements for suitable rehab at the facility where we live, we hope that he can come home soon. Again, thank you for your prayers. In Christ s love, Lorraine and Erling Landfried We want to thank you for the love and support you have given us during this difficult time. The prayers, along with the cards and calls were certainly appreciated and a great comfort to us. Ruth and Dick Draper Congratulations to: Will and Marilyn Howard on the birth of their great-granddaughter, Paige Makaelyn Fairfield on June 30. Dear Congregational Care Committee, Thank you so much for the lovely lunch after Berk s service. But thank you even more for your support and caring for his family at this difficult time. I feel like I ve learned a lot about loving from all of you wonderful people and I am so grateful to be part of The Church at Horseshoe Bay. Thank you, Betty Welch The Board of Trustees is hosting two more events for you to learn about our building expansion plans. They will be held on Wednesday evenings, July 16 and September 10, at 6:30 p.m. The program consists of a 45-minute PowerPoint presentation followed by a question-and-answer period and then dessert and coffee. Please mark your calendars for one of these Wednesday evenings. There will also be two brief presentations during worship on September 21 and 28. Then look in your mail for a ballot in late September. The deadline for your written vote will be October 15. Get your questions answered and be an informed voter!

3 Books & Scones B o o k s a n d Scones is a book review club that meets regularly in the church library/parlor to discuss Christian or inspirational books. The group will meet on Tuesday, July 29, at 3:30 p.m. The book of discussion is Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World by Joanna Weaver and is available in the church office for $11. The book of discussion for August is Forgive & Forget by Lewis B. Smedes, also available in the office for $10. For more information, please contact Annette Christy, , or Joan Morrow, Join us! Helping Center Needs This article is part of a continuing series on the organizations that are supported by The Church at Horseshoe Bay through the Benevolence Committee. You Do Make A Difference Several months ago, the members of our congregation, through the Benevolence Committee, participated in a campaign with Share The Joy ministry to purchase a vehicle for two of God s missionaries in Mongolia, Badmaa and Matsgaa. The campaign was successful and we were able to purchase a good used van for their services. Before the vehicle was acquired, the sole means of transportation for Badmaa and Matsgaa was limited to traveling on foot to bring people to Christ. While Natsgaa generally preaches the word of God, Badmaa assists him in Church functions and also teaches rudimentary health science to the ladies in that area. Some of their congregation are elderly or infirm and, with the help of the members of the Church, had to be physically carried to the Church. So, what difference did you make? Through your contributions, Badmaa and Matsgaa have been able to expand their efforts in delivering God s message. During the Christmas week alone, some 26 people in their area accepted Christ as their Lord and Savior and the mission continues, thanks in part to your generosity. The Helping Center continues to increase its client base on a regular basis. Assistance with food and necessities is rapidly increasing, right here in our own community. If you would like to help, the center is in need of the following items: boxed or bagged cereals powdered milk canned salmon canned meats ramen noodles elbow macaroni, 1 or 2 lb packages pinto beans, 1 or 2 lb packages white rice, 1lb bags family size soups Thank you for your continued support! Bring your donations to the church office, or drop them off at the Helping Center.
