2 The View From the East Greetings from The East, I hope you have, and are having a relaxing Summer in spite of the heat and lack of rain in June and monsoon in July. In June we had a great turn out for Strawberry Night. Wonderful foods and desserts were brought by our Masonic family and friends for all to enjoy. Also on June 6 th our Senior Warden, Brother Jeff Westra exemplified his 3 rd degree work and did an outstanding job of it. On July 10 th the officers of your Lodge exemplified the 1 st degree at the Summer School of Instruction at the Grand Lodge. They did a job all of our membership can be proud of. The work was done in an unfamiliar environment and they faced a room full of friendly critics. In spite of all of this they performed professionally and with few errors. Congratulations to Brother Guy York who received his Fellow of The Craft at the Grand Lodge School of Instruction on July 17 th. A tremendous amount of work went into his receiving this award. As Summer draws to a close the first sign of a Charity Mason s Fall is our first communication in September, which is on the 19 th. Hopefully you will come out and participate as we start winding down I hope everyone likes the newsletter format of our communication/bulletin. We attempt to put as much information in it as possible (as postal expense permits) so as to keep everyone up to date and informed as to how your Lodge is doing. If it were not for the mailing expense we could put even more information, pictures and flyers in the publication. Thanks to our sponsors the cost of producing it in paper form and mailing it out is somewhat under control. That said the more of you that receive it in format the cost savings just falls to the Lodge bottom line. Some of our members even receive it by both and in the mail. I also add that the.pdf is much easier to read; the pictures are clearer and you can still print yourself a hard copy if you wish. My point is that if you are receiving the communication via U.S. Postal Service please consider having it sent to you just by . Every penny saved helps your Lodge. 3 Looking to the West Greetings Brethren from the West, I would like to wish everyone a safe and happy summer. If you missed it, we had a great Strawberry Night filled with good food and great company. Your very own Charity Lodge exemplified the 1st Degree at the Grand Lodge this past July. Remember the Grand Lodge holds their Summer School of Instruction throughout the month of July every year. I would recommend attending next year. It is quite informative and will help keep your Masonic ritual sharp. Also, we will be helping out again with Bingo Night at the Masonic Home at Bonnie Blink in September. We had a great time last year. Please join us there. I look forward to seeing everyone in September. 4 From the Secretary s Desk Confronting the Inevitable Confronting the inevitable fate of us all is one of the primary tenants of Freemasonry that is we all will eventually enter the Sublime Celestial Lodge presided over by the Grand Architect of the Universe. Following are questions that all Masons should ask of themselves and their families to insure that their final wishes are followed: Does your family know that you are a Brother in the world s largest fraternity? Unfortunately, based on old misconceptions, all too many Masons cloud their membership in Freemasonry in needless secrecy. Does your family know that you want to be buried in the white apron that you received when you were make Entered Apprentices? Do our loved one s understand the comfort that a Masonic Memorial Service can bring to them and our friends? All too often when they are asked they have no idea as to what it is. Do you wish to continue supporting the Craft and its good works through a bequest or living gift? The possibilities are numerous remainder trusts, gifts to existing structures and on and on Making sure that your spouse, children and care givers know your wishes will make a time of stress less so and hopefully they are fulfilled. We fixed one of the emergency exit lights in the main lobby to pass our Fire Marshals inspection and we also replaced the batteries in the doorbell buttons. Our goals for this summer are to complete the chairlift that goes upstairs and to strip/wax the basement floors. 15 Coming Events FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 14, :00 p.m. 8:00 p.m. CHARITY LODGE No. 134 HOSTS: BONNIE BLINK BINGO NIGHT This is a family event. Come out with your family and spend some time with OUR Masonic seniors. These people are our family and it is our chance to bring a little spirit to their lives. Last year we had a great turn out and everyone that attended (Adults and children alike) had a memorable experience. I did not talk to a single participant that was not affected by the sharing experience in some way. The Dress is casual and all you need to do is help the folks with their bingo cards and give the winners the prize money. It is a great time.
