I am happy to share two such experiences that happened to me (and us) in the past week. 1. I had the pleasure of participating in my 9th Builders For Christ (BFC) trip by going with teams from our association and the North Jefferson Baptist Association (Alabama) to Mayfield and Benton Kentucky to assist two churches in construction and ministry. This is probably the most economical interstate mission trip you could ever join. I joined 75 folks who helped His House Ministries put up sheet rock, metal siding, and eaves for an office suite while helping Solid Rock Baptist Church paint and tile part of their education/fellowship wing. In the meantime a Backyard VBS and evangelism opportunities took place through out the week. Add to that a feeding team that kept our morale (and calories high) and you have a complete missions force sharing and receiving God's love. Now isn't too early too early to reserve the last week of July 2018 for our next mission BFC encounter. Frank Sheets (member of 1st PC) does a great job in organizing our projects. Let me know how we can get you in the loop. This is a great opportunity for men, women, and student ministries. 2. While I was gone, 1st Baptist Houston came into our area, like a lot of other groups. What was different this time is that they worked directly with our association by selecting our Missions Center as one of their projects. If you go by 12th and Virginia you will see our future home base sporting the colors of "cinnamon sugar", "skinny latte" and "covered bridge" (I just call it all " burlap sheik"). With the dead azaleas gone, new landscape timbers, relined parking lot, and partial carpet removal, I feel like renovation has started in earnest. Yet, the most gratifying factor in all of this work is that there are students who are now recognizing the value of doing missions and will have a perpetual investment in what takes place through the Missions Center. That means we also have an investment in those students regarding their spiritual development. Like milk, missions does a body good, especially the Body of Christ. 2 VOLUNTEER IN MISSIONS JENNIE LONDON Volunteer Mission Vision More Mission Teams and our NWCBA Shower Unit The reports are now in from the other two groups that used our Shower Unit this summer. Panama City FBC hosted a large group of World Changers. While here, they split up into about 15 teams and worked on 29 different homes, along with local volunteers, mostly from Panama City FBC. They reported: 54 Ministry Contacts, 21 Gospel Presentations and 4 Professions of Faith. They also gave a Bible to each of the families they served. Woodstock BC on Panama City Beach hosted a large group of youth and adults from Burnt Hickory Baptist of Powder Springs, GA. My apologies for the error in last month s Clarion, when I wrote that this group was from Texas. The team from Burnt Hickory, along with volunteers from Woodstock, led a VBS during the morning at Woodstock, did cleanup at a school and the county park, sang at the Capt. Anderson's Marina for an audience coming and going, led two sessions at Woodland Day Camp, led a session at Boys and Girls club, did some beach outreach and held a community block party. This group reported: 5 Ministry Contacts, distributed about 500 Gospel Tracts, gave Gospel Presentations to 7 different groups of people and recorded 25 Professions of Faith. All Glory to God for His Blessings! And, may all the seeds that were sown by these Mission Teams continue to bear fruit. Thanks again to all the dedicated Shower Unit Volunteers, who supported these teams by seeing that they had a clean place to shower each day. Southern Baptist Disaster Relief (SBDR) Update Sam Porter, currently the Volunteer Missions Specialist for the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma, has been named by our North American Mission Board (NAMB) as the new National Director for SBDR. Mickey Caison has served very capably in this role for many years and plans to retire the end of this August. Sam Porter will begin his role with NAMB in midseptember. 3 This summer has flown by and now we are preparing for the kids to return to school! In July, I had the privilege of recognizing one of our foster families as Angels Among Us at the Quality Parenting Luncheon at Big Bend Community Based Care. I also had the opportunity to recognize Jamie Buckley as a Hometown Hero for her work with Reagan s Wish. It has been an incredible honor to see the ministry of FBCH grow in Bay County and to work with so many amazing people who have made that growth possible. Not only do we continue to increase the number of foster homes, but also the number of people and churches who support those foster families. There is such a joy in knowing that even though we can t fix all of the problems we see in our community, we can do our part to increase the quality of life for one more child in our area. As we begin this new school year, please let me know if your church or organization would like for someone from FBCH to come speak at your church or share ministry opportunities! We love the chance to partner with our local churches! I am also looking to start a new QPT (Quality Parenting Training) class for anyone who is interested in being licensed as a foster parent this fall. 8 How Do I Apply for Elevate Bay: To apply for being a mentor, you will need to fill out the Mentor Application Form. After you apply, your application will be sent through the normal Bay District Schools background procedure. You will also have to attend one Elevate Bay training session. Some people want to help be a mentor but they do not understand all that it means to be a mentor. The training sessions will help answer your questions, as well as explain the expectations. Once you have gone through the training, you are ready to be a mentor and help make a difference. Further instructions will be given at that point to get you started. When Are The Training Dates? July 9:00 August 11:30 August September 10:30 September 9:30 Training sessions will be held at the Nelson Building on Balboa Avenue. You can sign up for one of these training sessions on your mentor application. Your mentoring application can be turned into Stacey Legg who is the Bay Districts School Mentor Initiative Specialist.
