2 FROMYOURRABBI: BOOKS,BOOKS,BOOKS! Spring is finally here, and that means the end of Religious School (last day is May 21st), the end of Adult Ed classes, the end of B?nai Mitzvah?season?, and the beginning of preparation for the High Holidays and the fall class schedule. A lot to do! A number of you have past due books from the Mildred & Irving Hand Library here at the temple? please check your closets and under the bed to make sure you don?t have any of our library books that need to be returned. Also? throughout the month of May and ending on the last day of Religious school, tables will be set up in the Social Hall with many books that are outdated from our library and donated to the temple that can be yours free of charge. Just stop by after school or after services and pick up the ones you like, including outdated copies of Gates of Prayer and Gates of Repentance. The new editions of our High Holiday Prayer book, Mishkan HaNefesh, are beginning to arrive at the temple and are ready for dedication plates. Please make sure you have purchased your copies for the temple so they can be properly dedicated and ready in the pews at High Holidays. (Books are $50 per set? please contact the temple office to dedicate your books). Books for personal use can also be purchased for $50 per set. Our monthly Book Review class ended on April 23 rd? look for the list of next year?s books in next month?s Bulletin to begin your summer reading. Looking forward to seeing you soon! Your rabbi, Peter Kessler

6 BATMITZVAH:ELLYCASHER My name is Elly Casher and I will become a Bat Mitzvah on May 6, I am a 7th grade honors student at Cumberland Valley Eagle View Middle School. I play soccer for HMMS and I enjoy hiking the Appalachian Trail, reading, drawing, and spending time with my friends. My Torah portion, Acharei Mot, is about keeping Judaism alive through our relationship with God. Becoming a Bat Mitzvah at Temple Ohev Sholom is important to me because I am a 4th generation member of the Temple and it helps me feel more connected to my Jewish family and community. It also helps me identify and appreciate the values and traditions of being Jewish. I would like to thank Rabbi Kessler, Mrs. Hutteman, Mrs. Rappaport, and all of my Religious School teachers for guiding me and preparing me for this milestone in my life. I would also like to thank my grandparents, Patti & Gary Lightman, Fran & Richard Casher, my parents, Debby & David Casher, and my brothers Andrew & Liam for encouraging, supporting, loving, and believing in me. BATMITZVAH:JILLIANGOLDSTEIN My name is Jillian Goldstein. I am a 7th grade Honor Roll student at Hershey Middle School. I have been dancing since I was 4 years old, and take every imaginable type of dance class at One Broadway Dance Centre. I am also a talented artist and a budding interior designer. I love all animals, especially my cats, Jackson and Stella. My Torah portion is called Bamidbar, or?in the desert?. It is about when God tells Moses to conduct a census of all Israelite men over the age of 20 who can go into battle. Moses also counts the Levites, who were not included in the census, and assigns them different responsibilities. I think the message is that everyone is important, has a role to play, and should be included. Becoming a Bat Mitzvah is an important milestone for me as I am moving toward adulthood in both my Jewish community and beyond. My mitzvah project is raising money for childhood cancer, which became especially significant to me after recently losing a classmate to this terrible disease. I would like to thank Rabbi Kessler, Mrs. Rappaport, Mrs. Hutteman, all of my teachers at Ohev Sholom, my parents Rollyn and Keith, and my sister Becky for all of the support in helping me to prepare for my big day.
