2 ACTIVITY 1 Biplane Game What You Need: Bible, Dice, Biplane Explained Game Board, Game Pieces and Game Cards Teacher Note: Divide the children into two teams. Set up the board game with the game pieces on the start line. After a team answers each question correctly, encourage them to roll the dice and move the game piece forward. SAY Let s play Biplane Explained! I will divide you into two teams. Each team will take turns asking questions to the other team using the game cards. When a team answers a question correctly, that team will roll the dice and move the game piece forward. The first team to reach the finish line is the winner! QUESTIONS & S 1. If we follow Jesus, we become children of the King and we get to help God grow His kingdom! How does the Holy Spirit help us do these jobs? Answer: The Holy Spirit s power gives us courage and helps us to follow God wherever He leads us. 2. Name the fifth book of the New Testament. Answer: Acts 3. God s great rescue plan is trying to solve which problem? Answer: The problem of sin and what it does to us 4. What does the word Holy mean? Answer: To be set apart for God 5. Jesus redeemed us. What does the word redeem mean? Answer: Jesus paid the debt that we couldn t pay so that we could be free! 6. The Gospels are the first four books of the New Testament. Can you name the Gospels? Answer: Matthew, Mark, Luke and John 7. True or False: The Gospels tell us the story of Jesus, and how He paid the penalty for our sin by dying on the cross. He beat sin and death by rising again! 3 ACTIVITY 2 Bible Review What You Need: Bibles, Saul to Paul Cards Teacher Note: Set up the Saul to Paul cards by flipping them all upside down (similar to the game Memory). The children will take turns matching the cards by turning over 2 cards at a time as they answer the questions. Play until all of the matches have been found and all of the questions asked. SAY Let s play the game Saul to Paul! We will take turns turning over 2 cards at a time. If the two cards match, then I will ask a question for us to answer. If the cards don t match, then we will turn those two cards back over, and another person will have a turn to find a match. We will keep playing until all of the cards have been matched. QUESTIONS & S 1. At first, Jesus followers believed that the good news was only for Jewish people. What is the name that the followers of Jesus called everyone else? Answer: The Gentiles 2. Where was Peter praying when God changed his mind about taking the Good News to the Gentiles? Answer: On his roof 3. What happened when Peter fell into a trance? Answer: God showed him something that looked like a big sheet being lowered from heaven with all the animals in it that the Israelites weren t supposed to eat (according to the laws God gave to Moses). Peter was hungry, and a voice said, Get up, Peter! Kill and eat! And Peter said, I will not! I have never eaten anything impure or unclean! Peter wanted to follow God s rules for Israel. 4. Why didn t the apostles talk to Gentiles? Answer: Because they believed that the Gentiles were unclean according to Jewish law. 5. God told Peter to share the good news with the Gentiles, too. What happened when Peter went to Cornelius house and shared the good news? Answer: They all became followers of Jesus and were filled with the Holy Spirit! 6. Saul was a strict Pharisee and followed all the Jewish laws. He thought Jesus followers were teaching things about God that weren t true and needed to be stopped. What did Saul do while Stephen was being stoned? Answer: He held coats 7. After Stephen was killed, Saul created a lot of trouble for those who followed Jesus. Look in Acts 8:3. What did Saul do to the church? Answer: Saul began to destroy the church, and he put Jesus followers in jail. 8. Saul was the Hebrew version of Saul s name. What was the Greek version? 4 9. Paul went to a town called Damascus to look for Jesus followers and put them in jail. Read Acts 9:3-6 to see what happened to him. Who spoke to Paul? Answer: Jesus 10. How would you feel if you had been Paul on the road to Damascus? 11. Look in Acts 9:9. How long was Paul blind? What do you think it would have been like to be Paul during those three days? Answer: 3 Days 12. The Lord sent a man named Ananias to Paul. Read Acts 9: What did Ananias say to Paul? Answer: That Jesus has sent him, and that Paul may see again and be filled with the Holy Spirit. 13. Paul went from arresting people who believed in Jesus to telling people to believe in Jesus. What do you think about Paul s big change? ACTIVITY 3 Memory Verse Activity Tic Tac Toe What You Need: Dry erase board (or laminated paper), dry erase marker SAY Now it s time to practice our memory verse for the week. Memory Verse: Acts 1:8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. DO Create a tic tac toe board on the white board or laminated paper Write the first set of memory verse words in the boxes of the board Split your group into two teams and assign one team X and the other team O Let the teams work together to play tic tac toe Each time they make a move, erase the word in that box and ask them to recite the verse or phrase together as a team, filling in the erased words. Pray and Dismiss SAY We can share God s love with our friends, our family, our neighbors, everyone. And, we can share God s love by telling them about God s great rescue plan. We can also share God s love by being kind to our friends, telling the truth to our parents and obeying our teachers. There are many ways to share God s love and good news with others. 18 WEEK 3 Today the children learned about Saul/Paul and the spreading of God s Good News. A few discussion questions for the way home: Who was Paul? What happened to him on the road to Damascus? Who did the Gentiles include? (Everyone who wasn t Jewish). Why didn t the apostles talk to Gentiles? (Because they believed that the Gentiles were unclean according to Jewish law.) God told Peter to share the good news with the Gentiles, too. What happened when Peter went to Cornelius house and shared the good news? (They all became followers of Jesus and were filled with the Holy Spirit!) How could you spread God s Good News this week?
