BOTTOM LINE God has a plan for me. BASIC TRUTH God made me. Gather children for a Large Group time that includes interactive worship and the Bible story. The Rug Script is written for those who pull their children to a rug (or area) to one side of their preschool space to tell the Bible story. If you gather your preschoolers together from multiple rooms and have a larger space on which to present the Bible story, you may benefit from using the Stage Script. WORSHIP Use the full mix of the monthly song provided with the curriculum to lead your preschoolers in worship. Encourage children to be active during worship by incorporating the appropriate hand motions. WHAT YOU NEED: Paperclip Memory Verse Card in your Bible at Matthew 28:19. You will need a CD player and this month s worship song, Plan for Me, which is included in your monthly files. The dance moves for this song are available on the Everybody Sing Dance Moves DVD. LEADER: Hello, hello, friends. It s so great to see you today! We have one more week together to finish up the true story of Joseph. I can t wait to see how it ends. But first, tell me: Who has a plan for you? CHILDREN AND LEADER: God has a plan for me. LEADER: Yes! God has a plan for me. He had a plan for Joseph, and He has a plan for you. Let s sing this month s song all about that. Lead children in singing Plan for Me, this month s worship song. LEADER: Wonderful singing, my friends. Tell me: Who has a plan for you? CHILDREN AND LEADER: God has a plan for me. LEADER: Yes indeed, God has a plan for me. Who can help me remember what we do next? We sang our first song. What do we do now? (Pause.) Yes! 4 STORY Choose an engaging adult to tell the Bible story. This person should be able to command the attention of preschoolers and control the group through animated storytelling. These scripts are written to be told and not read. Advanced preparation is necessary. First Look offers weekly introductory sketches and Bible stories on the DVD titled Wonder, Look at God s Story. WHAT YOU NEED: Bible; Joseph and His Happy Family Activity Page; white cardstock; Joseph with Coat and 11 Brothers (from Week 1); Joseph without Coat, Potiphar, and Joseph in Jail (from Week 2); Pharaoh, Grain, and Joseph in Charge (from Week 3) WHAT YOU DO: Before Large Group: Make one copy of Joseph and His Happy Family on white cardstock. WHAT YOU SAY: LEADER: Looks like today is going to be an exciting day! I get to tell you the final part of Joseph s story to complete his work of art! Today all of Joseph s story will come together to make a wonderful masterpiece. Who remembers where we can find Joseph s story? (Hold up the Bible.) You got it! The Bible! The Bible is full of God s true stories, and I can t wait to tell you today s story. (Open the Bible and lay it aside.) We ve heard a lot about Joseph this month and how God had a plan for him. (Hold up Joseph with Coat Activity Page.) It started when Joseph s 11 brothers got mad because their dad gave Joseph an amazing, colorful coat. Count the brothers with me! (Hold up 11 Brothers Activity Page. Count out loud as you point to them.) CHILDREN AND LEADER: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11! LEADER: Joseph s older brothers got SO mad they threw Joseph in a hole, sold him to strangers, and sent him far away to a place called Egypt. All along we kept saying, Oh, no, Joe! But then he got a job with a guy named Potiphar. Potiphar liked Joseph, but then something bad happened. (Hold up Joseph in Jail Activity Page.) 2018 The ReThink Group. All rights reserved. 4

5 Potiphar threw Joseph in jail for something he didn t even do. Again we said, Oh, no, Joe! (Hold up Pharaoh Activity Page.) Later, Pharaoh the king had a dream, and the only one who could tell him what the dream meant was Joseph. Joseph told the king to save food because the food would stop growing after seven years. (Hold up Joseph in Charge Activity Page.) The king was so thankful, he made Joseph in charge of all the food in Egypt. That s when we said, Way to go, Joe! God was turning Joseph s life into a work of art, but there was still one more part to God s plan to make Joseph s life a masterpiece. Years later, when the people started running out of food, Joseph s family far, far away was running out of food too. They were soooooo hungry. Can you rub your belly and say, I am soooooo hungry? CHILDREN AND LEADER: I am soooooo hungry! LEADER: Well, there was only one place to get food. Joseph s brothers had to go far, far away, to the place called Egypt to get food, and can you guess who was in charge? JOSEPH! It had been a long time since Joseph and his brothers had seen each other. Now Joseph was older and wore different clothes and spoke a different language. (Hold up 11 Brothers and Joseph In Charge Activity Pages.) When the brothers got to Egypt and met with Joseph, they had no idea it was their brother they were talking to. But Joseph knew. He knew they were his brothers. Joseph had a choice to make. He could be mean to his brothers for what they did to him and say, No food for you! Or Joseph could forgive his brothers and give them food. What do you think Joseph did? You re right. Joseph forgave his brothers. (Hold up Joseph and His Happy Family Activity Page.) And he gave his family food to eat. And when all of his family was together again, Joseph looked around and saw that God s plan was the best plan. He was glad he had trusted in God s plan and did things God s way. And there it is. Joseph s story is a work of art! It s a true masterpiece! 2018 The ReThink Group. All rights reserved. 5

6 And you know what? Lean in and I ll tell you something very special. (Lean toward the children.) God has big plans for you too. Just do like Joseph and trust God, and He ll turn your story into a masterpiece! One thing we ve learned this month for sure is that God s plan is always best. Even when it s hard or we don t understand, we can trust that God has a plan for us. Who has a plan for you? CHILDREN AND STORYTELLER: God has a plan for me! LEADER: One more time! Who has a plan for you? CHILDREN AND STORYTELLER: God has a plan for me! LEADER: That s the truth, friends. You better believe it! Now it s time to close our eyes and put our hands in our lap so we can talk to God. PRAYER LEADER: Dear God, thank You for Joseph s amazing story.
