It contains an outline for you to prepare an impacting small group time for you and your children. The BIG Celebrate User Guide document contains all the service element information, including the large group segment of your service. Make sure you read through and prayerfully study this material prior to your service to be fully prepared to minister to your children. Know that God is our Heavenly Father. Discover some great dads in the Bible. CEL 3.2 OLDER CHILDREN & PRETEENS RECOMMENDED FOR AGES 9-12 Use this KDG outline to prepare an impacting small group time for you and your children. CONNECT TIME Describe your dad using one word. THE BIG QUESTION GROUP DISCUSSION 1. What cool thing has your dad (grandfather, brother, uncle, friend) taught you to do? E.g. Ride a skateboard, bake a cake, build something. 2. What does honour mean and how can we honour our dads? Honour means to have high respect and great esteem. Honour means we give that person an important place in our life. Ephesians 6:1-3 (NLT) Children, obey your parents because you belong to the Lord, for this is the right thing to do. Honour your father and mother. We honour our dads by obeying them, respecting them, helping them, praying for them, doing kind things and telling them how much we love them. 3. How is God our Heavenly Father? The Bible tells us that God is our Father and we are His children. That s a lot of people in God s family! John 1:12 (NIRV) Some people did accept him and did believe in his name. He gave them the right to become children of God. We are all God s children. If father s day is a hard time for you for any reason, take heart because God is our Heavenly Father. The Bible says God is a Father to the fatherless, Psalm 68:5 (NIV) A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling. Today you can honour God and the other great men in your life. ACTIVITY SHEETS Children complete the activity sheets in this time. THE BIG ACTIVITY SUPPLIES NEEDED: Bow tie shape template supplied in print material files, card paper, patterned craft paper, pencils, buttons (4 per child), scissors, glue. DIRECTIONS: Make a card to give to your dad, grandpa, brother, uncle or friend. Give each child a half sheet of card paper to fold in half to make a card. Next children can use the bow tie template shape to trace the outline onto some patterned craft paper and cut out the bow tie shape. Use a little glue to stick the bow tie to the top of the card and then stick on four buttons in a row like a shirt. If they would like to children can use two strips of patterned paper to make braces either side of the buttons. EXPLANATION: God gives us dads to love us, care for us, protect us and teach us. Did you know that honouring parents is the only commandment that promises long life as a reward; Ephesians 6:1-3 (CEV) Children, you belong to the Lord, and you do the right thing when you obey your parents. The first commandment with a promise says, Obey your father and your mother, and you will have a long and happy life. God teaches us to honour our parents and we will have a looooong and happy life. That sounds pretty good to me! On Father s Day take the time and honour the men in your life. Who knows, you could live a loooooong life until you re a 130! 3 BIG IDEA: FATHER S DAY BIG POINT: A TIME TO HONOUR FATHERS BIG WORD TEAR AWAY Always be joyful. Never stop praying. Give thanks no matter what happens. God wants you to thank him because you believe in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 (NIRV) SUPPLIES NEEDED: Large sheet of paper and a marker. Before the lesson write the verse onto a large sheet of paper. Hold up the paper with the verse written on it. Repeat the verse a number of times together as a group. Now tear sections of the page away with the children saying the verse after each section is removed, until the children can say the verse without any words to read from the paper. LEADER NOTES CEL 3.2 A space for you, the leader, to write notes, plans, reminders, things to follow up on or remember for next time. GAME HUMAN TIC-TAC-TOE SUPPLIES NEEDED: Masking tape. Use some masking tape to create a tic-tac-toe grid on the floor. Divide your group in two teams, one team are the circles, one team are the crosses. As each team adds a player to the tic-tac-toe grid, the player makes a circle shape or a cross shape with their arms. The winner is the first team to have three in a row. Play a few rounds as time allows. If you have a large group you can make more grids and have more games happening at the same time. PRAYER Dear God, You are our heavenly Father, thank you that we are all part of Your great big family. Thank You for our dads, grandfathers, brothers, uncles and friends. Thank You that You give us special people in our life to love us and take care of us. We pray that every father is valued and honoured today. In Jesus name, Amen.
