2 2 year olds 8, 2011 Basic Truth God made me God created the heavens and the earth. Genesis 1:1, NIV Here s an overview of what you ll be teaching in 2s this week. Make It Fun (Choose one or all of these activities) Water Play Picture I.D. Puddle Jumping Make It True Bible Story and Worship Make It Stick (Choose as many of these activities as you like) Picture This Replay (Bible story review) Different Waters Mommy s Day Wash It Away! Dismiss 2
3 God created the heavens and the earth. Genesis 1:1, NIV Prepare to offer one or more of the following activities as your 2-year-olds arrive. Let one or two teachers lead small groups of children in activities throughout the room while another teacher greets parents and kids at the door. At this age not all children will participate, but most will want to be part of the fun. Make it Fun 1. Water Play What You Need: A plastic tub of water, towels, tub toys, and smocks (optional). Set out a plastic tub that s 1/3 to 1/2 full of water. Place tub toys in and around the tub. Have towels ready to dry hands. Let kids explore and have fun with the water. (Note: Never leave children unattended around water.) What You Say: Do you like to play in the water? I do! I like to splash and play in the water and push boats around. Do you know who made the water? (Pause for children to answer.) God did! Our Bible story today is about water. I can t wait to hear all about how God made the water! 2. Picture I.D. What You Need: Waters (from the Activity Pages on the Web site) and scissors. Before the activity: Copy and cut out the cards from Waters. During the activity: Ask children which pictures show water, where you would find that kind of water situation, and what you would do in that water situation. What You Say: Look at all these pictures. All these pictures are of water, but they are all different! (Point to the picture of a glass of water.) What is this a picture of? (Pause for answers.) Yes, it s a glass of water! Where do you get a glass of water? (Pause.) You can get it from the sink, the refrigerator, or maybe even a bottle of water. What do you do with it? (Pause.) You drink it! That s right! (Continue with the other pictures.) You did such a good job telling me about each type of water and what you do in those situations! In our Bible story today, we ll hear that God made ALL the water! Isn t that cool? 3
4 Make it Fun 3. Puddle Jumping What You Need: Blue construction paper, tape, scissors, and laminate (optional). Before the activity: Cut the blue paper into puddle shapes. Laminate, if desired. Secure the shapes on the floor with tape. During the activity: Let children jump into and out of the puddles. See if they can jump from one to another without touching the rest of the floor. What You Say: Have you ever gone outside when it s raining? Sometimes it s fun to jump in puddles, but it can get wet and messy sometimes. We are going to jump in our indoor puddles. See these puddles on the floor? Whenever you jump into the puddle, say, Splish-splash! Jump with me! Splish-splash! Too fun! Now try to jump from your puddle to this puddle. Wow! Great jumping! Keep going! Today we ll hear about all the water God made. 4
5 God created the heavens and the earth. Genesis 1:1, NIV After children have participated in Make It Fun, tell the Bible story and then encourage the kids to have fun singing with you. When sharing the Bible story, guide kids to gather around you on the floor. Some kids (especially the younger ones) may wander. That s OK. They re still listening and learning! Make it True Bible Story What You Need: A Bible and clear plastic water bottles with secure lids. Before the activity: Fill a clear plastic water bottle with water and put the lid on tightly. (Option: Prepare more than one bottle of water for the children to use.) During the activity: Invite the children to sit on the floor with you. Show the children the bottle of water you made. Shake it. Let them listen to the water as you shake it. Let them look at the water as you shake it. Allow each child to have a turn shaking the bottle. STORYTELLER: (Open the Bible.) The Bible says that God made water. I m really glad God made water. I like water. I brought some water in a bottle. Watch the water when I shake the bottle. (Shake the water bottle.) See the water? Can you see the bubbles in the water? (Show the bottle to the children.) Now listen to the water when I shake the bottle. (Shake the water again as you hold it close to the children s ears.) Do you hear the water swishing around? Now you try. (Allow the children to shake the bottle(s) filled with water.) What are some places we find water? (Allow for a discussion about water.) Right! We find water in our sinks, in a pod, in a puddle. We find water in many, many places. God didn t just make water. God made everything! God made everything! That s right! Worship What You Need: CD player, God Made It All, an original monthly download, and the filled water bottle from the Bible story. As the children listen to the music, take turns picking them up and dancing with them. Lead children in singing God Made It All. STORYTELLER: (Hold up the water bottle.) God is such a good God. He knew how much we would need water. I m so glad He made it. Let s pray and thank God for making water. 5
6 Make it True Prayer LEADER: Dear God, You are the one, true God. We believe in You. We know that You are bigger and stronger than anyone. Thank You for helping us when we need You. We love You, God. Amen. 6
7 God created the heavens and the earth. Genesis 1:1, NIV Choose two or more of the following activities to help make the Bottom Line stick. Lead the activities with small groups of children. Encourage children to play on their own if they do not wish to take part in an activity. Make it Stick 1. Picture This Replay What You Need: A sheet of blue poster board, a large sheet of dark blue construction paper, a sheet of light blue construction paper, scissors, a glue stick, and the poster made in Picture This during last week s Make It Stick. Retell the Bible story. Cut a wavy line on one edge of the dark blue construction paper and apply it to the bottom of the poster board. Cut out a cloud and raindrops and glue those to the top of the poster board. What You Say: Boys and girls, (pointing to the first poster) what did we learn God made last week? (Pause for answers.) God made the sky and everything in it! God made the day sky, and the clouds, the sun, the moon, and the stars. Amazing! God made everything! (Point to the poster you made today.) We learned today that God made ALL the water! God made BIG water, like oceans and lakes, and He made little water, like creeks and streams. God made the rain, the water we drink, and the water we bathe with! Water is good because God made it. Everything God made is good! Who made everything? (Note: Keep this poster to bring out each week during.) 2. Different Waters What You Need: Water 2 (from the Activity Pages on the Web site); white paper; stickers of raindrops and rubber ducks; and crayons. Before the activity: Make a copy of Water 2 for each child. During the activity: Give each child a copy of the Activity Page. Let them decorate their pages using the stickers and crayons. Retell Bible story as they decorate their pages. What You Say: We heard in our Bible story that God made ALL kinds of water! I am so glad God made water! Water is good! This picture has a lot of different types of water. When do you need an umbrella? (Pause for answers.) That s right! You need an umbrella when it rains! Let s color the umbrella and put some raindrops around it. Great! What is the next picture of? (Pause.) It s of a bathtub! I m really glad for baths, aren t you? Color in the bath water and place the rubber duck in the bathtub. Too cute! There is just one picture left. What is it? (Pause.) It s of a bottle of water! Color in your water. Yum! Water is a great drink! I am so glad 7
8 Make it Stick 3. Mommy s Day What You Need: Mommy (from the Activity Pages on the Web site), white cardstock, stamp pads, wet wipes, and a thin black marker. Before the activity: Make a copy of Mommy on cardstock for each child. During the activity: Stamp each child s hand above the Scripture on their paper. What You Say: Today is a very special day! Do you know what day it is? (Pause for answers.) It s Mother s Day! It s the day we celebrate our mommies and our grandmommies. This paper says, Her children rise up and call her blessed. We are going to stamp your hand and put it right here above the writing. Oh, how nice. Your mommy is going to love it! We need to be extra nice to her today, okay? Great! 4. Wash It Away! What You Need: Two plastic tubs of water, towels, plastic toys, liquid soap, and smocks (optional). Set out the plastic tubs and fill them 1/3 to 1/2 full of water. Add a squirt or two of soap to one of the tubs. Place toys in and around the tubs. Wash the cars, toy food, etc. Rinse and then dry them. Have towels ready to dry toys and hands. Let kids explore and have fun with the water. (Note: Never leave children unattended around water.) What You Say: Have you ever helped wash the dishes? You get to scrub, scrub, scrub in soapy water. Let s clean all the toys at the table and make them good and sparkly clean! Can you sing a song with me as we clean the toys? It goes like this: Scrub-a-dub-dub, put the toys in the tub. Scrub-a-dub-dub, get them good and clean. Scrub-a-dub-dub, rinse and dry them too! Super scrubbing! Look how sparkly clean they are! We learned that God made ALL the water! God made the water we drink, the water we swim in, the water we bathe in, the rain water that falls from the sky, and even the water we used to wash and rinse our toys! God made all the water. 8

Greet parents at the door and let parents know that this month preschoolers are learning that Encourage parents to repeat the Bottom Line at home and help their child understand that Have this month s Small Talk available for parents to pick up or send it in a monthly . Encourage parents to use the activities found in Small Talk to reinforce this month s 9
