3 15 MINUTES 1. THE GREAT PRETENDER WHAT YOU NEED: No supplies needed DURING THE ACTIVITY: Gather the children in an open area of the room. Call out the different examples listed below of something changing from one thing to another and encourage the children to act out the process with their bodies. Water to ice (flow to freeze) Seed to flower (grow up) Cocoon to butterfly (pretend to fly) Tadpole to frog (wiggle then hop) MOVE an activity that uses a preschooler s natural desire to move to help them learn DURING THE ACTIVITY: Did you know that you can see certain changes in nature? Have you ever noticed the leaves changing color in the fall? And then they fall from the trees in the winter so that new leaves can sprout in the spring. Pretty cool! I will call out some other examples of changes in nature and I want all of us to act out those changes with our bodies. Are you ready? (Pause.) Here we go! (Call out the changes listed above.) AFTER THE ACTIVITY: That was SUPER fun! Did you know that people can change too? And not just on the outside, but on the inside too. Let s go to Large Group to find out how! 4 15 MINUTES PLAY an activity that encourages preschoolers to follow guidelines while having fun and learning new concepts 2. CHANGING COLORS WHAT YOU NEED: Gallon-sized zip-top bags, red and yellow paint, and masking tape BEFORE THE ACTIVITY: Lay the bag flat and place the red paint on one side of the bag and the yellow paint on the other side of the bag. Be careful not to mix the paint. Tape the bag onto a table to secure it. You will need one bag per two children. DURING THE ACTIVITY: Invite the children to use their hands to change the colors of the paint by mixing them through the bag. AFTER THE ACTIVITY: Ask the children what color the two colors changed into. BEFORE THE ACTIVITY: Today we are going to talk about changing. I have two colors in the bags. (Point.) Let s see if we can change them. DURING THE ACTIVITY: Use your hands to see if you can change the colors. (Do activity.) AFTER THE ACTIVITY: Great job! You changed the colors! They were red and yellow. What color do you see now? (Pause.) YES! Orange! In our Bible story, we are going to talk about how knowing Jesus can change people. I am so excited to find out what happens! TRANSITION: Move to Worship and Story by pretending to change into their favorite animal on the way to the story area. 5 15 MINUTES IMAGINE an activity that lets preschoolers pretend, imagine, and role play to enhance their learning 3. BREAKING NEWS! (NOTE: This week you will add the People Activity Page to your basket of magnet cutouts for the children to use as they pretend to give the breaking news. Refer back to Week One for more details about what should be in your news center.) WHAT YOU NEED: People Activity Page, variety of skin-colored cardstock or white cardstock, scissors, crayons or markers, and all of the supplies from Weeks One and Two BEFORE THE ACTIVITY: Print People on a variety of skin colored cardstock or white cardstock, cut the people out, and color them with crayons or markers. Cut magnetic peel-n-stick strips and place them on the back of each of the people cutouts. DURING THE ACTIVITY: Encourage the children to use the props to dress up like news reporters. Show them how to use the weather magnets, Empty Tomb with Jesus magnet, and the different people magnets with the magnetic board to report the weather news as instructed during Week One and tell the BIG NEWS that Jesus is alive from Week Two. In addition, show the children the different people magnets and how to report the BIG NEWS that the church is growing and growing, because more and more people are following Jesus. DURING THE ACTIVITY: Come pretend to be a news reporter with me. First we learned how to give a weather report. Remember this? (Quickly dress up in some of the props and sit at the desk.) Hi! My name is [SGL s name], and this is your morning news. It looks like it s going to be a windy day today (put up the Wind Cloud magnet), so grab a hat and a jacket. We will have plenty of sunshine (put up the Sun magnet) to brighten the day. Sounds like the perfect weather to fly a kite! Then we learned some super BIG NEWS to tell! Breaking news, everyone! (Take all of the weather magnets off of the board 2018 The ReThink Group. All rights reserved. 5

6 15 MINUTES IMAGINE an activity that lets preschoolers pretend, imagine, and role play to enhance their learning and put Empty Tomb with Jesus magnet on the board.) Jesus is alive! I report: Jesus is alive! The tomb where Jesus was buried is empty. Jesus is not there. Jesus is alive, just like He promised. Now we have even more exciting news to report. This just in: the church is growing every day. I repeat: the church is growing every day as more and more people are following Jesus. (Add all of the People magnets one by one to the board.) This person wants to follow Jesus and this one wants to follow Jesus and this one and this one. This is fantastic news! Now it s your turn. You can tell the BIG NEWS! (Allow children to report the news.) AFTER THE ACTIVITY: We are learning so much wonderful news from the Bible stories we are hearing. First we learned the BIG NEWS that Jesus is alive. Then we heard the fantastic news that the church is growing as more people follow Jesus. I wonder what news our storyteller will have for us today. Let s go find out! 7 HEAR FROM GOD REVIEW MOVE an activity that uses a preschooler s natural desire to move to help them learn 1. SEE THE LIGHT WHAT YOU NEED: Flashlight BEFORE THE ACTIVITY: Ask the children to stand in front of you. DURING THE ACTIVITY: Shine the light on a child and ask him to say the memory verse. Be sure to shine the light on his torso and legs and not his face. If children struggle with the words, be sure to help them if needed. Be sure you shine the light on every child so that everyone has a turn to say the verse. BEFORE THE ACTIVITY: When Saul saw the light, his life was changed! He believed that Jesus is alive, and he became Paul. DURING THE ACTIVITY: Let s use this light to practice our memory verse. When I shine the light on you, it will be your turn to say the memory verse. Are you ready? (Pause.) Great! (Do activity.) AFTER THE ACTIVITY: Fabulous! You did a great job saying our memory verse. Our verse tells us that Jesus wants us to tell everyone about Him so that He can be everyone s friend forever! I can tell others about Jesus! 2018 The ReThink Group. All rights reserved. 7

8 TALK ABOUT GOD REVIEW CREATE an activity that allows preschoolers to review the Bible story, bottom line, or memory verse by creating a craft to take home 2. HAPPY/SAD STORY REVIEW WHAT YOU NEED: Craft sticks (1 per child), Happy/Sad Faces and Bible Story Labels Activity Pages, white cardstock, scissors, clear tape, and Avery #5160 labels or equivalent BEFORE THE ACTIVITY: Copy the Happy/Sad Faces onto cardstock and cut out. You will need one happy and one sad face per child. Tape a smiley face cutout to one side of the craft stick with the clear tape. Then tape the sad face cutout to the opposite side. Repeat for each craft stick. Copy the Bible Story Labels onto the label paper. DURING THE ACTIVITY: Pass out a prepared craft stick to each child. Let them place a Bible story label onto the stick. Encourage the children to hold them up, flipping to the happy or sad face as you review the story using the text below. DURING THE ACTIVITY: Let s put a label right here on the bottom of our craft sticks like this! (Demonstrate.) Great job. Let s all hold up our craft sticks together. Do you see how there is a happy face and a sad face? (Pause.) Let s talk about what happened in our Bible story today and if you hear something that makes you happy, show your happy face. If you hear something that s sad, show your sad face. Are you ready? Today we talked about Saul. Saul did NOT believe the BIG news about Jesus. And he wasn t very nice to people who did believe (sad face). One day, when Saul was walking along the road, he saw a very bright light, and he asked, Who are you? It was Jesus! Jesus told Saul to get up and go into the city. But when he stood up, Saul couldn t see (sad face). God sent Ananias to help Saul (happy face). Ananias touched Saul s eyes and he could see again (happy face). Then Saul knew that this BIG NEWS really was true! Saul completely changed 2018 The ReThink Group. All rights reserved. 8

9 TALK ABOUT GOD REVIEW CREATE an activity that allows preschoolers to review the Bible story, bottom line, or memory verse by creating a craft to take home from someone who didn t believe and was unkind to those who did (sad face) to someone who DID believe! Paul spent the rest of his life telling others the BIG NEWS about Jesus (happy face). AFTER THE ACTIVITY: There were some happy and sad parts to our story today. But we definitely had a happy ending. Saul, who was also called Paul, completely changed after that day on the road. Why? Because people can change when they And that s one big reason why we should be ready to tell others the BIG NEWS about Jesus The ReThink Group. All rights reserved. 9

10 LIVE FOR GOD APPLICATION ACTIVITY THINK an advanced activity specifically designed for older preschoolers 3. PUTTY WHAT YOU NEED: Silly Putty and a newspaper BEFORE THE ACTIVITY: Lay the newspaper out flat on a table in the activity area. DURING THE ACTIVITY: Give the putty to the children and encourage them to press it onto the paper to transfer the image onto the putty. Challenge the children to stretch and pull the putty to change the image. Repeat several times. BEFORE THE ACTIVITY: Today we talked about how Saul changed when he became Jesus friend DURING THE ACTIVITY: We are going to do a super-duper cool experiment! If we push this silly putty (hold up) onto the newspaper, it puts the words and pictures from the paper onto the putty. (Demonstrate.) Now it is your turn to try. (Do activity.) Perfect! Now you can change the image on the putty by stretching and pulling it. (Finish activity.) AFTER THE ACTIVITY: Great job! You changed the pictures on the putty like Saul changed to Paul. 11 LIVE FOR GOD APPLICATION ACTIVITY MOVE an activity that uses a preschooler s natural desire to move to help them learn 4. WALK THE LINE WHAT YOU NEED: Floor tape BEFORE THE ACTIVITY: Use the floor tape to mark two parallel lines on the floor at least one foot apart. The lines should be five feet long. DURING THE ACTIVITY: Pair up the children and line them up behind the taped lines. Point out the lines of the floor. Encourage each pair to hold hands and walk along the taped path, BUT they must do so with their eyes closed. When you say, STOP! the pair must stop, open their eyes, and see where they are on the path. Repeat with each pair. Then let them walk the line again with their eyes open. DURING THE ACTIVITY: Let s line up behind the tape lines with our partners. I want you to hold hands with your partner and walk along the line together, BUT you must close your eyes as you walk. When I say, STOP! I want you to freeze where you are and then open your eyes to see if you re still on the line. Are you ready? (Pause.) Okay, first pair, let s walk. AFTER THE ACTIVITY: Which was better: walking the path with your eyes closed or with them open? (Pause for responses.) YES! It was much better to walk the line with your eyes open. Saul s life was so much better after that day on the road. He finally understood the BIG NEWS about Jesus and then he told so many others the same BIG NEWS about Jesus. And we can too! 12 LIVE FOR GOD APPLICATION ACTIVITY CREATE an activity that allows preschoolers to review the Bible story, bottom line, or memory verse by creating a craft to take home 5. BIG NEWS WHAT YOU NEED: Big News Activity Page, white cardstock, index cards, dot stickers, sponges, clear tape, red paint, and wet wipes BEFORE THE ACTIVITY: Copy the Activity Page onto the cardstock. Fold a piece of the tape and place it in the middle of an index card. Tape a card to the Activity Page to cover the words Big News. DURING THE ACTIVITY: Help the children to place dot stickers around the index card in a circle pattern. Encourage the children to dip the sponge into the paint and to sponge paint over the stickers and the card. AFTER THE ACTIVITY: Allow the page to dry. Then help the children to peel off the index card and stickers. Wash messy fingers with the wet wipes. BEFORE THE ACTIVITY: We are going to make a page that says BIG NEWS on it! (Hold up page.) Hmmm. It doesn t look like it says anything. Let s see if we can change that! DURING THE ACTIVITY: Use the dot stickers to make a circle around the card on the page. (Demonstrate.) Perfect! Now it is time to paint. I love to paint! You may paint on top of the card and the stickers. (Do activity.) AFTER THE ACTIVITY: Now let s take off the card and the stickers. (Finish Activity.) WOW! The BIG NEWS looks so cool! You can take your page home and tell your family all about the big news that Jesus wants to be their friend I can tell others about Jesus! 2018 The ReThink Group. 13 PRAY TO GOD PRAYER ACTIVITY REFLECT an activity that encourages personal application and prayer 6. JOURNAL AND PRAYER WHAT YOU NEED: Memory Verse Card paper clipped in your Bible at Matthew 28:19, journal, an fun-shaped pen SMALL GROUP LEADER (SGL): It s Small Group time! We need to change from this spot (point down) to that spot (point to where your small group meets). So let s go! Come and follow me! (Make a sweeping motion with your hand for the children to follow you and lead them to your Small Group spot.) SGL: We changed spots! We re not over there anymore. (Point to where you started.) Now we re here! (Point down.) Yay! Let s sit down and talk about today s Bible story. One, two, three, sit down with me! Our Bible story today was about another kind of change. Do you remember how Saul changed? (Pause.) Yes, when Saul met Jesus he stopped being mean to people and started loving people. He wanted everyone to know the BIG NEWS about Jesus! When we tell others the BIG NEWS about Jesus and how much He loves them, they can change too. That s why we tell everyone about Jesus! And who can tell others about CHILDREN AND SGL: I can tell others about Jesus! SGL: Louder! CHILDREN AND SGL: I can tell others about Jesus! (Open Bible to verse.) SGL: And telling others about Jesus will make disciples, which is another name for people who follow Jesus. And all nations means the whole, wide world! Wow! We can help do that! Knowing the Bible verse we ve been learning will help us remember to do that. It says: Go and make disciples of all nations, 2018 The ReThink Group. All rights reserved. 13

14 PRAY TO GOD PRAYER ACTIVITY REFLECT an activity that encourages personal application and prayer Matthew 28:19. (Close Bible and lay it down.) Let s say that together with the motions. Just say what I say and do what I do. CHILDREN AND SGL: Go (run in place) and make (pound fist into palm) disciples (hold the hand of the friend next to you) of all nations (extend arms over your head in a circle), Matthew 28:19. (Open your hands like a book.) (Repeat the verse with motions a few times.) SGL: You sound amazing! You ll be ready to say it all by yourself before you know it, but now it s time to pray. And I have an idea of what we can write in our prayer journal. Let s sit down and get started. (Hold journal and fun-shaped pen.) Knowing Jesus changes us, because we start loving people like Jesus loves people. Let s make a list of things we do when we love people. It can be giving a hug, sharing our food, helping a sick person, or telling people the BIG NEWS about Jesus. When I say your name, tell me one way we can show people we love them like Jesus loves them. (Write each child s name and what they say beside their name. Remember to print the words they say so the children can recognize their names and the letters.) This is such a special list. Let s pray and ask God to help us do these things. Would anyone like to pray before I pray? (Give each child who wants to pray the opportunity to do so.) PRAYER SGL: Dear God, I pray that each person here today will know You and follow You. I pray they will grow up to love others the way You love us. Help us all to (read the list the children made) so people will know Jesus loves them.
