She married Yankel Pushett in 1958 and had three 3 children, Tamara, Benjy & Leora. Rina established and taught at the Yavneh kindergarten that gradually evolved into Yavneh College. Rina furthered her own education, graduating from Melbourne University with a B.A. majoring in Linguistics, Spanish and Middle Eastern studies, eventually lecturing in Middle Eastern studies. Rina joined Emunah in 1959 and became an active and committed member. She undertook the position of Education officer, establishing the Annual Emunah Education day. These were held as daylong workshops, focussing on global and local issues pertaining to Jewish activities and problems. In addition Rina introduced the Emunah Summer Shabbat Shiurim, inviting speakers from the whole Jewish community. The concept of these shiurm as well as the Annual Education day were recognized by World Emunah and replicated by most other Emunah member nations as well as other organisations. 7 Mishpatim 27 Shevat 5776 February 6th, 2016 Issue 637 Mazal Tov to Noam and Lital Pe'er (Memphis ) on the birth of their daughter Maayan! Rav Benjamin Krausz Former Rosh Kollel in Perth ( ) Currently Rav of "Heichal Channah" community, Petach Tikvah Our Everyday Covenant Parashat Mishpatim, after bringing a wide and diverse range of laws, concludes the event of Mt. Sinai that these laws are part of with a description of the making of the covenant by Moshe. Moshe constructs an altar with twelve stones, and after having read to them the book of the covenant, throws the blood from the sacrifices he brings- the blood of the covenant, half onto the Altar and half onto the people of Israel. After that, Moshe proceeds to go up to Mt. Sinai, where he will spend forty days and will receive the Torah. Tha Tana'im- the sages of the Mishnah in the Mechilta, echoed in the commentaries of Rashi and Ramban, differ on the chronological order of the events - The Ramban holds the opinion that this making of the covenant took place as it is located in the order of the chumash, immediately after the giving of the Torah. According to the Ramban, Moshe ascended to Mt. Sinai for forty days on the day after the Torah was given, since it says specifically "and he arose early in the morning and built an altar ". Rashi, on the other hand, explains that the construction of the altar and the covenant happened before the giving of the Torah (even though the description appears after it); On the fourth of Sivan Moshe was told by HaShem to ascend, and the next morning, after having built the altar as described, and after having received the Ten Commandments, he ascended the mountain for forty days. Behind this seemingly technical dispute dealing with the understanding of the order of events, we can see two fundamentally different approaches in understanding the basis for drawing a

covenant - which for us, in our day to day life, is the act of taking upon ourselves the responsibility for connecting to HaShem. One approach, as expounded by the Ramban, tells us that in order to be able to take this responsibility one needs to know beforehand the details of the responsibility we are taking upon us. Am Yisra'el could not declare Na'aseh VeNishma "All that Hashem spoke we will do and we will hear." without knowing beforehand what the covenant is all about, just as one does not sign a contract before knowing the details of the transaction he is about to commit to. Rashi in contrast expounds the approach that holds that the essence of a covenant is the unconditional acceptance of the link created by the covenant, while the knowledge of the details of the covenant is not necessary. Since this mutual commitment between the two parties is so strong, they will ultimately do whatever is necessary to fulfil their obligations. The Torah is written in a way that leaves the understanding of the order of the events as unclear, and both explanations are well founded on the text of the Torah. Maybe this can teach us that there is more than one way to connect to HaShem. A person trying to extrapolate from the covenant between HaShem and Am Yisra'el to his own personal Avodat HaShem, the day to day toil and effort in self-improvement through the study of Torah and keeping the Mitzvot, can find several different approaches in the Torah itself. Every person has his own way to connect to HaShem. Even the same person can experience different stages in his life, with a different connection each time. Sometimes his connection will be unconditional, and is the motivator towards deeper study and understanding, and sometimes one finds that he needs to study and understand what this connection is all about before he can internalize it. There is not only one way to create a connection to HaShem, and either of these approaches are legitimate and positive. Each person needs to find his personal path in his Avodat HaShem, and realizing that what might be good for one person is not necessarily good for another person is a key understanding to being able to draw our personal covenant with HaShem. TMT Spotlight: Religious Zionist Shlichut Fairs Over 300 people attended two Shlichut fairs on Wednesday and Thursday, held by the newly formed Center for Religious Zionist Shlichut. The fairs, one of which was in Tzafira and one in Jerusalem, were meant for families and singles who wanted to learn more about the world of Shlichut and the different organizations that send Shlichim abroad. Hasida Pinchuk, who currently works for Torah MiTzion as the coordinator of Midreshet Tzion and as an advisor to

shlichim, spoke on behalf of Torah MiTzion about her inspiring experience on Shlichut in Melbourne ( ) as one of the founding Rosh Kollel families. Both nights ended with a fair where attendees could learn more about each organization and begin the application process. In addition to Torah MiTzion staff members Zeev Schwartz (Executive Director), Yoav Cohen-Hadad (Head of Shlichut Department), and Arik Speaker (Head of European Desk), former Shlichim including Rav Meir Maimon (Memphis ), Efraim Rimel (Chicago ), Shalom Orkabi (Montreal ), and Gabi Finkelstien (Melbourne ) all came to represent Torah MiTzion. The fairs were initiated and organized by The World Mizrachi Movement and by Ohad Tal, the head of The Center for Religious Zionist Shlichut, a joint project of The World Mirzrachi, Torah MiTzion and World Bnei Akiva. Tu B'Shvat Around The World Annual Seder Tu B'Shvat in memory of Malcom Slonim z"l in Melbourne Yonatan Hillel at the Tu B'Shvat fair in Mexico

Tu B'Shvat program in Cape Town with Danielle Halle Yom Iyun about Tu B'Shvat for high school students in Montreal ISRAtag Arik Speaker In cooperation with: 'Lilmod' Coordinator and Head of European Desk in Torah MiTzion The first settlers of Ramat Gan were a group of people who were looking to get out of cramped Tel Aviv and Jaffa to a more open place. They wanted to establish an agricultural moshav called "Ir Ganim" - City of Gardens, and found an area of approximately 2,000 hectares on the road to Petach Tikvah. They purchased it in 1921 and two years later changed its name to Ramat Gan. During the 20s and early 30s Ramat Gan was still quite a small settlement whose population did

not reach 1,000. Still, the British gave Ramat Gan a status of local council, normally reserved for much bigger citites, probably when they saw the potential of its location between Tel Aviv and Petach Tikva. A few years later the city's tremendous growth began under its first mayor, Avraham Krinitzi. Krinitzi headed Ramat Gan for 43 years, and won 12 elections; an Israeli record and certainly one of the longest serving mayors in the world. After his reelection in 1969, he died in a car accident along with his son-in-law and his driver. Despite the fact that the city is no longer a small farming settlment, but rather one of the largest cities in the country, there is still an emphasis on nature and wide open spaces. About a quarter of the city's area is covered with avenues, tree lined streets and parks, including the National Park with an area of more than 1,800 acres that includes the famous safari. In terms of industry, Ramat Gan is of national importance, with several large industrial zones and the country's diamond exchange center. Yasher Koach to Yosef Katzav for providing the correct answer Where was this photo taken? Please send answers to - arik@torahmitzion.org The answer, further information about this location, as well as the first person to recognize this site will be published in next week's edition.

Torah MiTzion was established in 1995 with the goal of strengthening Jewish communities around the globe and infusing them with the love for Torah, the Jewish People and the State of Israel. Over the past twenty years Torah MiTzion's shlichim have inspired and enriched their host communities through a wide range of high impact formal and informal educational programs. In cooperation with : Our friend Benjy Singer has a very useful website, which contains accurate and fresh information of what's going on in the Religious Anglo Community in Israel.
