1 Statement 174 a. Indeed there are people who may conceal some part of the Scriptures, which ALLAH revealed, and sell it away by manipulating interpretations in order to benefit some petty political and material gains in this world. b. As a result, they are swallowing nothing but the Hellfire. c. ALLAH shall neither address them on the Day of Judgment nor shall HE cleanse them of their sins-they shall be completely ignored. d. They shall have painful punishment. Statement 175 a. Such are the people who exchange Guidance with misguidance and forgiveness with torment. b. How steadfastly they seek the Hellfire! Statement 176 a. That is because ALLAH has revealed the Qura'n with its whole truth. b. The men and women, young and old, who seek to cause disagreement and challenge its credibility, are in extreme dissension. Ayah 174 Inna allatheena yaktumoona ma anzala Allahu mina alkitabi wayashtaroona bihi thamanan qaleelan ola-ika ma ya/kuloona fee butoonihim illa alnnara wala yukallimuhumu Allahu yawma alqiyamati wala yuzakkeehim walahum AAathabun aleem Ayah 175 Ola-ika allatheena ishtarawoo alddalalata bialhuda waalaaathaba bialmaghfirati fama asbarahum AAala alnnar Ayah 176 Thalika bi-anna Allaha nazzala alkitaba bialhaqqi wa-inna allatheena ikhtalafoo fee alkitabi lafee shiqaqin baaaeed English Paraphrasing by Badr Hashemi Page 69

2 Statement 177 a. The righteousness is not only that you turn your faces for the worshipful postures towards the East or the West. b. The righteousness calls for the one to believe in: - the absolute Unity of ALLAH, - the Last Day i.e. Day of Resurrection followed by the Day of Judgment, - the angels, - the Divine Scriptures, and - the Prophets and their respective missions. c. And, the persons who, no matter how dearly they cherish it, give away a part of their wealth to: - the near relatives, - the orphans, - the destitute, - the traveler in need, - those who ask you for help, and, - for the redemption of slaves and/or captives. d. The persons who - establish the daily Mandatory Prayers regularly and at designated times, - render their obligatory zakat charitable donations for welfare of the community, - true to their promises and pacts once made, - steadfast in sufferings and adversity, and, in times of challenges between Truth and falsehood. e. Such are the persons who have proved to be the People of Truth. f. They are the ALLAH-conscious. Ayah 177 Laysa albirra an tuwalloo wujoohakum qibala almashriqi waalmaghribi walakinna albirra man amana biallahi waalyawmi alakhiri waalmalaikati waalkitabi waalnnabiyyeena waata almala AAala hubbihi thawee alqurba waalyatama waalmasakeena waibna alssabeeli waalssa-ileena wafee alrriqabi waaqama alssalata waata alzzakata waalmoofoona biaaahdihim itha AAahadoo waalssabireena fee alba/sa-i waalddarra-i waheena alba/si ola-ika allatheena sadaqoo waola-ika humu almuttaqoon 177 English Paraphrasing by Badr Hashemi Page 70

As for the one who is pardoned by the aggrieved family, let there be prosecution according to the practice in vogue and recompense for blood paid in good grace. d. This is an alleviation and a merciful dispensation from your RABB. e. Anyone who transgresses against the murderer after granting pardon or accepting the blood-money shall be sternly punished. Statement 179 a. O People of Wisdom! b. You would find security and safeguard for your lives in such a code of compensation. c. It is decreed that when death is imminent for those of you who possess property and assets, they should draw up a will in a proper and equitable manner for: - the parents, and - the near relatives. b. This is the duty incumbent upon all those men and women, young and old, who are aware of ALLAH's decree and are ALLAH-conscious. Ayah 178 Ya ayyuha allatheena amanoo kutiba AAalaykumu alqisasu fee alqatla alhurru bialhurri waalaaabdu bialaaabdi waalontha bialontha faman AAufiya lahu min akheehi shay-on faittibaaaun bialmaaaroofi waadaon ilayhi biihsanin thalika takhfeefun min rabbikum warahmatun famani iaatada baaada thalika falahu AAathabun aleem Ayah 179 Walakum fee alqisasi hayatun ya olee al-albabi laaaallakum tattaqoon Ayah 180 Kutiba AAalaykum itha hadara ahadakumu almawtu in taraka khayran alwasiyyatu lilwalidayni waalaqrabeena bialmaaaroofi haqqan AAala almuttaqeen English Paraphrasing by Badr Hashemi Page 71

ALLAH is ever-caring. Ayah 181 Faman baddalahu baaada ma samiaaahu fainnama ithmuhu AAala allatheena yubaddiloonahu inna Allaha sameeaaun AAaleem Ayah 182 Faman kh moosin jaafa min ithman faanafan aw baynahumslaha ithma AA fal a inna Allahalayhi ghafoorunar aheem Statement 183 a. Ayah 183 Ya ayyuha allatheena amanoo kutiba AAalaykumu alssiyamu kama kutiba AAala allatheena min qablikum laaaallakum tattaqoon 183 English Paraphrasing by Badr Hashemi Page 72

5 Statement 184 a. You must fast for a specific number of days: twenty nine or thirty. b. If any one of you is - seriously ill, or - on a long arduous journey, c. then that person is not obliged to fast. d. However, it will be incumbent upon the person to make up for such missed fasts by devoting a corresponding number of days to fasting later after the month of Ramadan. e. Furthermore, those who cannot endure it for reasons of age and/or health, etc. should compensate for it by providing meals to a needy person, for every day missed. f. The one who compensates voluntarily more than the one is obligated to shall be well rewarded. g. In any event, it is better for you to fast during the whole month of Ramadan if you really understand the spiritual concept of fasting. Ayah 184 Ayyaman maaadoodatin faman kana minkum mareedan aw AAala safarin faaaiddatun min ayyamin okhara waaaala allatheena yuteeqoonahu fidyatun taaaamu miskeenin faman tatawwaaaa khayran fahuwa khayrun lahu waan tasoomoo khayrun lakum in kuntum taaalamoon 184 English Paraphrasing by Badr Hashemi Page 73

6 Statement 185 a. It was the month of Ramadan wherein the Qura'n was revealed as the Book of Guidance for entire humanity. b. And the Qura'n contains Statements of clear messages, directives and commandments that distinguish right from wrong. c. Therefore, every one of you who is at one's normal place of residence during the month of Ramadan should spend it in fasting. d. Let the one who is ill or on a journey break the fast. e. The person will then be required to fast a similar number of missed days later. f. By granting this concession, ALLAH desires mitigating your hardship not to cause you hardship and discomfort. Indeed, Islam does not lead people to obedience by force; it guides them through their consciousness. g. You are, however, required to complete the necessary number of days of fasting. h. You are also asked to extol ALLAH's Supremacy for having guided you aright. i. Stay gratified for HIS Guidance through genuine conviction and active practice. Ayah 185 Shahru ramadana allathee onzila feehi alqur-anu hudan lilnnasi wabayyinatin mina alhuda waalfurqani faman shahida minkumu alshshahra falyasumhu waman kana mareedan aw AAala safarin faaaiddatun min ayyamin okhara yureedu Allahu bikumu alyusra wala yureedu bikumu alaausra walitukmiloo alaaiddata walitukabbiroo Allaha AAala ma hadakum walaaaallakum tashkuroona 185 English Paraphrasing by Badr Hashemi Page 74

8 Statement 187 a. It is lawful for you to cohabitate with your wives during the nights of the fast. b. They are a covering and a comfort for you in as much as you are a covering and a comfort for them. c. ALLAH is aware that you have been deceiving yourselves reference to the practice before coming of this code of conduct. HE has thus relented towards you and pardoned you. d. You may now feel free to enjoy each other's company with passion and seek whatever ALLAH has ordained for you. e. Eat and drink at night until you can discern the white streak of the upcoming dawn against the darkness of the night. f. Then give up all that and complete the fast until nightfall, i.e. dusk. g. Do not cohabitate with your wives while you are secluded for worshipful devotions in the mosques for nine or ten nights/days during the later part of the month of Ramadan. h. These are the limits set by ALLAH. i. Do not approach to breach the limits. j. Thus, ALLAH sets full explanation of HIS rules and directives for those men and women who fast so that they learn selfdiscipline and remain ALLAHconscious. The righteousness does not mean to enter the places of residence through the back door-a reference to the pre- Islamic Hajj custom considered as a sign of piety and righteousness. f. In fact, the righteousness is the consciousness of ALLAH and HIS presence at all times and in all situations, unqualified obedience to execute ALLAH's decrees rather than a routine gesture that have no meaning. g. Enter the places of residence from the front doors. h. Remain ALLAH-conscious as a basic fact of Faith and that is how you would achieve success in this life as well as in the life after this life.
