1 About the Author Mohammad Shaikh is a public speaker on Islam and comparative religion. His lectures are based on Qur anic textual inflection which serve to remove numerous misconceptions, present authentic Islamic beliefs and appeal for a rational and objective analysis of the Qur an based on it's own internal evidence. Without taking political or sectarian sides, he calls people to understand and analyze what the Qur an has to say about a subject first and foremost, as it is the Qur an which is Islam s principal authoritative text and Allah s word and revelation to humankind. About the booklet This is a lecture reference booklet. Compiled by Muhammad Shaikh. It is in accordance with the lecture of the same topic. It contains the Quranic verses which are collected from The Quran under the topic set by the speaker with the help of Allah. He recites these verses during the course of the lecture and read their translation to establish an understanding of the verses. Inside the booklet on the one side are the Arabic verses and on the corresponding page are their translation in English language. Reference booklets are available on other topics. 2 ITRODUCTIO The aim of this booklet is to introduce the reader to the topic from the Qur an. It can be studied on its own and it also complements the video lecture of the same topic which accompanies it. The booklet contains ayaat (Qura nic verses) pertaining to the topic as discussed in the video lecture in a question and answer format. Questions are raised, and their answers are given by the ayaat. The ordering and numbering of the ayaat corresponds with those on the lecture which can be downloaded from the video lectures section of IIPC website: The Qura nic references provided herein are not exhaustive but offer the core essence of the subject. The references that have been excluded in this publication can be researched using any good concordance and it will be discovered that the selection introduced in this publication will harmonize the entire sequence. It is hoped that Muslim readers will memorize these ayaat along with their Arabic text and engage in Da wah (propagation of Islam) to their friends and colleagues, and also be able to recite the same in their Salah (prayer). In this manner, the booklet becomes a useful tool for everyday Muslim practice - Insha Allah. Do they not ponder over the Qur'an? If it had been from other than Allah, surely there would have found many contradictions in it. 4 2. QAUL / SAYIG 3. SUAH / PRACTICE AL-BAQARA O you believe! when you attain or reach a judgement among each other with a judgement towards a fixed period of time then write it down... X...And take two witnesses from your men then if there are no two men then take one man and two women from the witnesses whom you are pleased, that if one of the two women astrays then the other reminds her... O AAL-E-IMRA 3 1. HADITH / EVET / ARRATIO X 7. It is He who has revealed Al-Kitab / The Book over you. In it are muhkamat / governing ayats / signs, they are the mother of Al-Kitab / The Book and others are mutashabehat / resembling (ayats / signs), so in whose hearts is deviation then they follow that resembles from it seeking captivation and its interpretation and no one knows its interpretation except Allah. And those who are stable in knowledge they say, we believe with it, all is from the nearness of our Lord.And none remembers except those who possess the core. (i.e. innermost part of anything). 5 AL-MAIDA 5 Q AZ-ZUMAR 39 OU 43. And how can they govern you and At-Taurah / The Law is near them, in it is hukum / governance of Allah. Then after that they turn away and they are not with the believers. 23. Allah has revealed the most beautiful Al-Hadith / the event a book mutashabiha / resembling, repeating itself. Those who fear from their Lord, their skins shiver from it, then their skins and their hearts soften towards the remembrance of Allah. That is the guidance of Allah, He guides whom He wills with it. And to whom Allah leaves astray so for him there is no one who can guide. POITS POITS Muhkamat / Governing ayats / signs. All the ayats / signs which are governing us, they are referred as At-Taurah / The Law the mother of Al-Kitab / The Book which contains hukum / governance of Allah. e.g. establishing the salah / prayer, giving sadqa / charity, performing Hajj / pilgrimage, saum / fasting etc. Mutashabehat / resembling (ayats / signs) all ayats / signs describing Ahadith / Events of all the prophets including Mohammad (p.b.u.h) the seal of the prophets. And all other Ahadith / Events. e.g. about man (his behavior as believer, hypocrite, associate, rejecter etc), Adam, universe, earth, skies, mountains, jannah / garden, jahannam / hell, qiyamah / resurrection and akhirah / the last day etc. 3 4

6 A-AZIAAT 79 SU AL-AHZAB 33 OO 15. Did Hadith / event of Moosa (pbuh) come to you? AZ-ZARIYAT Did Hadith / event of the honourable guest of Ibraheem come to you? AL-GHASHIYA Did Hadith / event of the enveloper / that surrounds entirely come to you? YUSUF 12 QM TT M 53. O those who believe! You do not enter the houses of the prophet except permission for a meal is given to you other than waiting for its preparation, and when you are invited, then enter and when you had the meal then disperse and do not socialize for a Hadith / an event. Surely that is hurtful to the prophet, so he is ashamed from you, and Allah is not ashamed from the truth. And when you ask them of any commodity so ask them from behind a hijab / veil. That is purer for your hearts and for their hearts. And it is not for you to hurt the messenger of Allah and that after him you never ever marry his pairs / wives. Surely that would be big (offence) in the nearness of Allah. 6. And likewise your Lord selected you (Yusuf pbuh) and taught you from the interpretation of the Ahaadith / events

7 OM LUQMA And from the people are those who purchase amusing / for enjoyment Hadith / event without knowledge to astray from the way of Allah. And they take it as ridicule. They are those for whom will be humiliating punishment. RU AL-HAAQQA So I do not divide with what you have the insight 39. And what you do not have the insight. 40.Surely it is the qaul / saying of an honourable messenger. 41.And it is not with the qaul / saying of a shair / poet. It is little what you believe. 7. And when Our ayats / signs are recited over him he turns away arrogantly as if he did not listen to it as if there is deafness in his ears. Then give him the good news with painful punishment. 42.And it is not with the qaul / saying of a kahin / storyteller. It is little what you remember. 43. A revelation from the Lord of the worlds. 44.And if he has said some of the aqwal / sayings on Us. 45. Definitely We would catch him with the right. 46. Then definitely We would cut off from his aorta. 7 8

8 AL-BAQARA 2 AL-ARAF And they say the fire will not touch us except (for) counted days. Say have you taken a promise in the nearness of Allah And when they do any obscenity they say we found our fathers / ancestors on it and Allah has ordered with it. Say surely Allah does not order with obscenity And they say that you will never enter garden except who become hood / lenient / jews or nasara / helpers / christians. That is their desires. Say come with your proof And when you do not bring them with an ayah / sign, they say why you have not chosen it. Say surely I follow what is inspired to me from my Lord... AL-AAM And they say why an ayat / sign is not send over him from his Lord. Say surely Allah is all Powerful to reveal an ayah / sign POITS Qaloo / they say is mentioned 331 times in Al-Quran. 2. Qul / say is mentioned 332 times in Al-Quran. 9 10

9 AL-BAQARA 2 AL-BAQARA And they question you about the crescent / the new moon. (i.e. each of 28 divisions of the ecliptic occupied by the moon on successive days). Say they are the timings (of working) for mankind and timings of Hajj / pilgrimage... (i.e. Starting and ending of the hajj) 220. And they question you about the orphans. Say correction is better for them And they question you about menstruation. Say it is hurt / anxiety And they question you that what they should spend say what you spend from the betterment They question you about fighting in the sacred / holy / forbidden month (of Ramazan and months of Hajj). Say fighting in it is great (offence)... FUSSILAT othing is said for you except what was said for the messengers from before you. Surely your Lord is the one who definitely forgives and is the one who is a painful chaser. POIT 219. And they question you about intoxicants and gambling. Say there is a great sin in both of them Yasaloonaka / they question you is mentioned 15 times in Al-Quran

10 AL-MOMIOO 23 O AT-TUR 52 Q 68. So what, do they not ponder on the qaul / saying or there has come to them what has not come to the fathers / ancestors of their earlier ones? 33.Or they say he said it. But they do not believe. 34. Then let them come with a Hadith / event of its example if they are truthful. 69. Or do they not recognize their messenger, so for him they are disguised. AL-WAQIAH 56 QR 81. Is it such a Hadith / event that you flatter? POITS TO RECOGISE THE MESSEGER AD THE SAYIG. 1. To ponder on the saying of the messenger of Allah. 2. othing is new. 82. And you make your sustenance / livelihood that you falsify it

11 A-AJAM 53 QO AL-QALAM 68 RT 59. Then are you amazed from this Hadith / event? 60. And you laugh and you do not cry. 44. So leave on Me and whosoever belies with this Hadith / event. Soon We will gradually come from where they do not know. 61. And you raise the head proudly. AL-JASIYAH 45 PQ 62. Then prostrate and serve for Allah. 6. These are the ayats / signs of Allah, We recite over you with truth, then after Allah and His ayats / signs, then in which Hadith / event they believe? 15 16

12 AL-AAM 6 Questions and Answers 114.Do I seek judge other than Allah and He has revealed the Book towards you in detail. And to those whom We have given the Book know that surely it has been revealed from your Lord with the truth. So you do not become from those who doubt. A-AJAM 53 QO 3. And it is not a logic applied from his desire. 4. If it is, then except an inspiration to which he is inspired. Q1.What you have to say about which means that prophet does not say of his desire, so we have to believe in the Hadith also? 17 18

13 AL-AAM 6 O AAL-E-IMRA Say what thing is greatest evidence. Say Allah is a witness between me and you and this Quran is inspired to me to warn you with it and to whom it is delivered. Do you surely bear witness, that with Allah there are other gods. Say I do not bear witness, say surely He is one God and surely I am exempted from what you associate (i.e. to give partners to Him). 132.And follow Allah and the messenger so that you will receive mercy. P A-ISA Whosoever follows the messenger so without doubt he follows Allah / God and who will turn back, then we have not sent you as preserver over them. Q2.In Quran it is mentioned that follow Allah and follow his messenger, it means following of Allah is following of Quran and following of messenger is following the Hadith? 19 20

14 AL-BAQARA 2 AL-HASHR 59 QU 269. He gives Al-Hikmah / The Wisdom to whom He wills, and whosoever is given Al-Hikmah / The Wisdom so without doubt he has been given betterment in abundance. And they cannot remember except those who possess the core. (The innermost part of anything or the spirit.) AL-ISRA That is from Al-Hikmah / The Wisdom your Lord has inspired towards you. And you do not make other god with Allah. So you will be put in hell blameworthy, rejected. Q3. In Quran Allah says that the messenger will give the knowledge of the book and wisdom. It means that the knowledge of the book means Quran and the knowledge of the wisdom means Hadith. It means that we cannot understand the Quran without Hadith? MS 7. Whatever Allah has bestowed (i.e. the 1/5th of the ghanim / profit and any amount according to the means) from the people of the cities over His messenger then it (sadqa / charity) is for Allah / God and for rasool / the messenger and for qurba / the relatives and for yatama / the orphans and for masakeen / the needy (who are reduced to poverty) and for ibn-e-sabeel / the sons of the way so that it may not be a thing taken in turns amongst the rich from you and whatever the messenger gives you so take it and whatever he forbids you about it, so forbid. And take guard of Allah. Surely Allah is strong in pursuit. Q4.There is an ayat in Quran that says whatever the messenger gives you take it and whatever he forbids, you forbid, so is it not the clear evidence that we should believe in Hadith? 21 22
