Lesson Goal: The children will realize that when they accept Christ they become new creations and therefore should act differently than before. Main Point: Through Jesus I can be a new creation. Bible Story: Nicodemus learns about being born again (John 3:1-21) Memory Verse: 2 Corinthinans 5:17 This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun! (NLT) Our New Creation (Opening Activity) This activity will introduce the children to the idea that Jesus can make us into new creations when we accept Him as our Savior. Animal Race (Alternate Opening Activity) This activity will introduce the children to the idea that when you become a Christian you are a new creation and should behave differently. Bible Formula (Small Group Activity) In Bible Formula children will improve their Bible skills and review the Bible verse for this week, which teaches them that anyone who belongs to Christ, becomes a new person. Skit and Bible Story (Large Group Activity) This skit and Bible Story teach children that when they accept Christ, they become new creations and therefore should act differently than before. Science Journal (Small Group Activity) Children will review the Main Point, the Bible Story, and the Memory Verse by coloring and/or filling out their Science Journal. They can take this home, share it with their parents and use it to remember that through Jesus they can become new creations. Old Shirt/New Shirt (Small Group Activity) This activity visually demonstrates our Memory Verse by showing the children that when we belong to Christ our old life is taken away and we are given new life. Before and After (Small Group Activity) Before and After helps the kids see ways that they should act differently after they become a new creation. When we become a new creation, God will help us change our old behavior. Baby Bird Believers (Small Group Activity) This activity helps the children see that when they become new creations they are like baby birds that will have to learn and grow to be strong. Believers learn and grow by praying, reading the Bible, worshipping God, going to church, and telling others about Jesus. Experiments With Dr. Oppenheimerstein (Large Group Activity) This is a strategic time to review and reinforce the content of the lesson Fellowship Church

The purpose of this activity: This activity introduces the children to the idea that we become new creations when we accept Christ as our Savior. Description: Two groups of children will create an original drawing from an identical line. They will learn that God makes us a new creation. Materials Needed: For this activity you need this help sheet, two easels back to back, drawing materials, and two pieces of posterboard or foam-board. Note: Draw an identical line for each team to start with. To introduce this activity, say the following: 1. I want you to divide into two teams. 2. Each team is going to start with this (show the foam-board or posterboard with the identical lines) and create your own drawing. 3. Each member of your team will be allowed to come up and draw one line. 4. When you are all done, we will see what your creations look like. 5. Are you ready? Go! For detailed instructions on how to do this activity, see the DVD. During the activity, say the following: 1. Remember, you can only draw one line. 2. Your drawings are looking great! After the activity, say the following: 1. Both of these drawings are very different aren t they? 2. Do either of them look the same as when we started? 3. Each of these drawings are a new creation, because they are different than when we started, and they are different from each other. Summary: In this activity you made two new creations. Today we are talking about how God makes each of us into a new creation when we accept Him as our Savior Fellowship Church

The purpose of this activity: This activity introduces the children to the idea that when you become a Christian you are a new creation should behave differently. Description: The children will move across the room as different types of animals, and learn that when they become something different, they act differently. Materials Needed: For this activity you need this help sheet. To introduce this activity, say the following: 1. I want everyone to come over to this wall. 2. There are many kinds of animals and they all move differently. Some are slow, some are fast, some run and some crawl. 3. I am going to call out the name of an animal. 4. When I do, I want you to move across the room as if you were that animal. 5. Are you ready? Note: Be sure to include many different kinds of animals that move differently. Don t use only ones that move fast. Some examples are: Elephants, giraffes, monkeys, snails, frogs, butterflies, snakes, whales, eagles, sloths For detailed instructions on how to do this activity, see the DVD. During the activity, say the following: 1. That was great, let s try another animal. 2. Do you have an animal you d like to try? After the activity, say the following: 1. Did you move the same way when you switched from one animal to the next? (No) 2. That s right, giraffes are different from monkeys, and monkeys are different from snails. 3. You moved differently, because you became something new. 4. When we become Christians, we become new creations, and we should be different than we were before. Summary: In this activity you changed your behavior when you became a new animal. Just like you changed your behavior when you became a new animal, when you become a Christian, your behavior will change as well Fellowship Church

The purpose of this activity: This activity will get your kids into their Bibles and help them review the Bible Verse for the week. Description: The children will decode the reference for this week s Bible Verse using the Bible Formula Table. Then they will look up the verse using the reference. Materials Needed: For this activity you will need copies of Lesson 7 Bible Formula Table and writing or coloring instruments for each child in your group. To introduce this activity, say the following: 1. A chemical formula tells scientists how something is made. 2. Today we have our own formula to solve. 3. Let s see if we can solve this formula using the Bible Formula Table. For detailed instructions on how to do this activity, see the DVD. During the activity, say the following: 1. Try to solve the formula before the other team. 2. The team to solve the formula first wins the round 3. I will help you if you are stuck. Bible Verse: 2 Corinthians 5:17 This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun! NLT After the activity, say the following: 1. Today s Bible Verse tells us that Jesus can take away our old life and give us new life. 2. Remember this week that we should read God s word and let Jesus help us become a new person Fellowship Church

The purpose of this activity: The purpose of this activity is to help the children review the Main Point, Bible Story and Bible Verse. Description: The children will review the Main Point, the Bible Story, and the Bible Memory Verse by recording them in an Adventures in Science Journal. Note: There are two versions of the Adventures in Science Journal available to you. The version for older kids has a picture from the Bible Story for the kids to color and places for them to write in the Main Point, Bible Verse and a description of the Bible Story. The younger version has the Bible Story picture, but the Main Point and Bible Verse are written in for the kids to color as well. You may also put the parent letter on the back of the Journal. Materials Needed: For this activity you will need the Lesson 7 Science Journal from the CD Rom (with blanks for older children or with pictures only for younger children), and writing or coloring instruments for each child in your group. To introduce this activity, say the following: 1. Scientists put their discoveries in journals so they can go back and review what they learned. 2. Just like scientists, we are going to keep a journal of what we learned today. Note: Have older kids write in the Main Point, Bible Verse, and what happened in the Bible Story. Both younger and older kids can color in the pictures. For detailed instructions on how to do this activity, see the DVD. During the activity, say the following: 1. Who remembers what our Main Point is today? (Through Jesus I can be a new creation.) 2. Who remembers what happened in our Bible Story? (Jesus taught Nicodemus about becoming a new creation.) 3. Who remembers our Bible Verse this week? (2 Corinthians 5:17 This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun. ) After the activity, say the following: 1. Write your name on the front of this journal. 2. Be sure to show your parents the letter on the back. Summary: Share this journal with your parents and use it to remind you of your lesson this week Fellowship Church

The purpose of this activity: This activity will help kids understand that when we accept Christ we become new creations. Description: Children will mess up a shirt with scissors, mustard, and ketchup*. The teacher will compare the shirt to our lives full of sin, and will replace it with a new shirt to show that we are new creations in Christ. *Note: To do a less messy version of this activity, simply use markers and pens instead of mustard and ketchup. Materials Needed: For this activity you need two identical shirts, scissors, and squirt bottles of mustard and ketchup. (Or different colored markers for clean version) To introduce this activity, say the following: 1. With Christ in our lives, we become a new person. 2. Let s pretend our life is like this shirt. For detailed instructions on how to do this activity, see the DVD. During the activity, say the following: 1. All of us sin and do wrong things. (Cut a hole in shirt with scissors) 2. Can you tell me some things that are sins? (Lying, hurting others, disobeying parents) After the activity, say the following: 1. Before we become a Christian, our lives are like this messed up shirt. Would you want to wear this shirt? (No) 2. But Jesus takes our old life away and gives us a new life, like this brand new shirt. 3. That s what the Bible tells us in our verse for this week. Who can remember what our verse says? (2 Corinthians 5:17 This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun! ) Summary: Before we accept Christ we are like this old shirt. When we accept Christ we become like this new shirt, we become a new creation Fellowship Church

The purpose of this activity: This activity helps kids to see how they should act differently when they become new creations. Description: Children will match pictures of how a person might act before they become a Christian and how their behavior should change as a Christian. Materials Needed: For this activity you need this help sheet and the Before & After Pictures from the CD Rom. To introduce this activity, say the following: 1. We are talking today about how our lives change when we become a new creation. 2. Here are some things that you might do before you are a new creation, and how you would change after you are a new creation. 3. Let s match them up! For detailed instructions on how to do this activity, see the DVD. Note: Read the Bible verses and have the kids match up the Before actions with the After actions. During the activity, say the following: 1. Look at this picture and listen to this Bible verse. a. Stealing/sharing Exodus 20:15 You must not steal. b. Broken vase on floor and kid pointing to someone else/kid pointing at himself Exodus 20:16 You must not testify falsely against your neighbor. d. Messy room & kid yell NO!/Kid cleaning room Ephesians 6:1 Children, obey your parents because you belong to the Lord, for this is the right thing to do. g. Cheating/studying Leviticus 19:13 Do not defraud or rob your neighbor. h. Tripping a kid/helping a kid up Leviticus 19:18b Love your neighbor as yourself. 2. Good job matching these up! After the activity, say the following: 1. All of these are things that we might do, but if we are Christians and new creations, then God gives us the power to change our behavior. Summary: When we become Christians we are new creations and our old behavior should change. Use these pictures to remind you of the ways you should behave when you are a Christian Fellowship Church

The purpose of this activity: This object lesson will help the kids see that when they accept Christ they become new creations that need to grow. Description: Children will look at a robin s egg and the teacher will lead a discussion about how things grow, and how we should grow as new creations in Christ. Materials Needed: For this activity you need this help sheet and a robin s egg (or similar small bird egg). Note: Becoming a new creation is a hard concept for kids to understand. We need to make sure that kids don t expect to instantly be different when they become a Christian. To introduce this activity, say the following: 1. Everyone come and sit down. 2. Look at this tiny egg. 3. Can you guess what kind of bird hatches from this egg? (A robin) For detailed instructions on how to do this activity, see the DVD. During the activity, say the following: 1. That s right. What kind of things can a robin do? (Sing, fly, make nest, get worms/food) 2. That s right. An adult robin can do all of those things. 3. When this egg hatches, can the baby robin do any of those things? (No) 4. What does it have to do? (To grow, to get strong, to learn how) 5. How does the adult robin help? (Feeding it, building a nest) After the activity, say the following: 1. When you become a Christian you are a new creation, but you won t change completely all at once. 2. When you are new Christian, you are like the bird that might hatch out of this egg. You need to grow, and get strong. 3. How does a Christian grow and get strong? (Pray, read the Bible, worship God, go to church, give, tell others about Jesus) Summary: Just like a bird has to learn and grow after it is hatched, when you become a Christian, you are a new creation that has to learn and grow Fellowship Church

Lesson Goal: The children learned that when they accept Christ they become new creations and therefore should act differently than before. Main Point: Through Jesus I Can Be a New Creation! Bible Verse: This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun! 2 Corinthians 5:17 (NLT) This week your children got to watch Dr. Oppenheimerstein come up with the craziest plan yet: a device that can steal talents and aspects of other people. Oppenheimerstein suffers from allergies and Flask does not. The doctor decided that the best way to become a new and better person was to steal Flask s resistance to allergies and any other good qualities people have. Unfortunately the device backfired and the two end up switching bodies with each other. When the confusion finally subsided, the council chairman explained that becoming a new creation isn t a new invention, we become new creations through Jesus. In John, chapter 3, Jesus spoke with a man named Nicodemus. Nicodemus was confused and had a lot of questions for Jesus. Jesus explained that he needed to be born again. Jesus was talking about a spiritual birth which happens through salvation and forgiveness. After accepting Christ, a new life as a Christian has begun. We are brand new creations! Every part of this week s lesson was about teaching your children that through Christ, we are brand new creations. That means we should start acting differently now. We should act in a way that pleases God Fellowship Church Lesson Goal: The children learned that when they accept Christ they become new creations and therefore should act differently than before.
