Small Group Activity: Bleach & Iodine Lesson 7 The purpose of this activity: This object lesson demonstrates God s forgiveness of our sins through Jesus. Description: Through using jars of water and adding bleach and iodine, the children will see an object lesson of forgiveness through Jesus. Materials Needed: 3 clear jars, water, bleach, iodine, Adam & Eve label, You and Me label, Jesus label. To introduce the activity, say the following: 1. We re going to talk about a very serious problem. We re talking about sin. 2. Who can tell me what sin is? (sin is doing something wrong.) For detailed instructions on how to lead this activity, see the DVD. During the activity, say the following: 1. Sin started way back with the first two people that God created. Their names were Adam and Eve. 2. God gave them one rule and they broke it, their disobedience was called sin. 3. Because Adam and Eve were the first people their sin flows into you and me. 4. So now we have this sin problem messing us up. I can t take care of it because I m messed up by my sin. 5. You can t take care of it for me because you re messed up by sin too. 6. The only one who can take care of this sin for us is Jesus. And that s what Jesus did when He died on the cross. He paid the price for our sins. 7. If we go through our ABC s, if we admit believe and choose, then Jesus comes into our lives and forgives us of all that sin. 8. He washes us clean. After the activity, say the following: 1. Jesus is the only one who can help us with our sin because he is the only one who never sinned at all. 2. Jesus is one of God s promises that we can choose to believe or not. 3. Let s pray and thank God for sending Jesus to die for our sins.
Small Group Activity: Make Some Grapes Lesson 7 The purpose of this activity: This activity helps the children review key parts of the Bible story. Materials Needed: Blank white paper (1 sheet per child), purple construction paper (2 sheets per child), green construction paper (1 sheet per child), glue sticks, scissors (1 pair per child). To introduce the activity, say the following: 1. In today s story the twelve spies brought back a huge cluster of grapes to prove to the Israelites how good the land was. 2. The cluster of grapes was proof of God s promise. 3. We re going to make our own cluster of grapes as a reminder of God s promises. For detailed instructions on how to lead this activity, see the DVD. During the activity, say the following: 1. Everyone take a pair of scissors and start cutting out circles from your purple construction paper. Cut out as many as you can. 2. The circles should be about the size of a quarter. 3. Next, start gluing those circles to your piece of white paper. The circles should overlap each other a little bit. 4. Once you have all your circles glued to each other you should have something that almost looks like a cluster of grapes. 5. The only thing it is missing is a couple of leaves at the top. 6. Let s cut out a couple of leaves from our green construction paper. 7. Glue your leaves to the top of the cluster. After the activity, say the following: 1. Good job making those grapes! 2. How many people does it take to hold up your grape cluster? (just one.) 3. Is it heavy? (no.) 4. In our story the cluster of grapes was so huge and heavy that it took two people to carry it! 5. The grapes were proof that God was giving them a really great place to live. 6. Take these grapes home with you and use them to remind you about God s promises to you.
Small Group Activity: Salvation Bracelet Lesson 7 The purpose of this activity: This activity gives the children an object lesson for the basics of Christianity. Description: The children will make a salvation bracelet out of leather and beads that will help them remember the decision for salvation. Materials Needed: Thin strands of leather (1 per child), black beads, red beads, white beads, blue beads, green beads, yellows or gold beads (all beads 1 per child). To introduce the activity, say the following: 1. If you prayed the prayer of salvation and went through your ABC s (admit, believe, choose) then you made the most important decision ever. You re now on God s team! 2. Right now I want us all to make a bracelet that tells the story of what you did today and what you should do next. For detailed instructions on how to lead this activity, see the DVD. During the activity, say the following: 1. First I want you to tie a knot in the strap of leather. 2. Now slide the black bead on the leather next to the knot. The black bead represents how we are all sinners, and our sin separates us from God. 3. Next, slide the red bead on the leather next to the black bead. The red bead represents how God sent His son Jesus to die on the cross for our sins. 4. Next, slide the white bead on. The white bead represents how when we accept Jesus He takes away our sins. 5. Next, slide on the blue bead. The blue bead represents water and being baptized. We are baptized to show we have joined God s team. 6. Next, slide on the green bead. The green bead represents how our daily obedience grows us closer to God. We can accomplish this by reading our Bibles, praying and coming to church. 7. Next, slide on the yellow or gold bead. This bead represents heaven. One day we will live with God in a home He has prepared for us in heaven. After the activity, say the following: 1. If someone asks you about your bracelet you ll be able to tell them the story about your ABC s. 2. Wearing this bracelet will give you a chance to tell others about Jesus!
Small Group Activity: Moses Maze Lesson 7 The purpose of this activity: This activity is a fun and visual way to review the Bible story. Description: The children will navigate through a maze that contains pictures from the Bible story. There are two Moses Mazes available to you. There is a beginner version for younger children and an advanced version for older children. Print off the one that fits your age group best. Materials Needed: Moses Maze #7 (print one copy per child), crayons or markers (1 per child.) To introduce the activity, say the following: 1. I need you all to navigate this maze. If you follow the correct path you will find the different parts of today s story. 2. We ll work together and help each other get through. 3. As we find different pictures in the maze, raise your hand if you know what it is. 4. Don t worry if you get stuck, we ll all help each other. 5. Let s see how fast we can get through this maze if we work together. For detailed instructions on how to lead this activity, see the DVD. During the activity, say the following: 1. What is this first picture in the maze and how did it fit into today s story? (Repeat this question for each additional maze picture.) 2. What is this second picture...etc. 3. Don t forget to help each other get through this maze. If someone is stuck and you know the right way, show them. 4. Don t forget that the right path will lead you to the different pictures. After the activity, say the following: 1. You all did great navigating that maze! 2. Was it better to have someone to help you on the hard parts? (yes.) 3. Would this maze have been harder if you had to do it by yourself? (yes.) 4. Who can remember all of the pictures without looking? 5. Who can tell me what all of the pictures mean? 6. Try to remember the different parts of the story, we might review them later.

Parent Flyer - Lesson 7 Promises are special to children. Whether they make a promise or someone makes one to them there is always a choice involved. You can choose to believe the promise or not. It is the same with God s promises, we choose to believe or not to believe. Our goal this week was to teach your children that God promises them eternal life and it is their choice whether or not to accept it and believe it. Our Bible story today was the story of Moses sending the twelve spies to go scout out Canaan, the land God had promised to give the Israelites. The spies came back and gave their report. They all agreed that the land was great but ten of the spies said that the people who lived in the land are too big and war-like to defeat. Two of the spies said that they should go possess the land. The Israelites didn t listen to the two spies and instead started complaining and weeping. They chose not to believe God s promise about giving them the land. They even talked about killing Moses and choosing a new leader. The Israelites chose not to believe God s promise. God was very angry with the Israelites and punished them by making them wander for 40 years. In today s skit Tex scouted ahead to the area where the cattle drive will end. He brought back a great report but it turns out to get to the end they will have to pass through the badlands. Tex didn t believe they could make it through so he planned out a new, longer route. Cookie encouraged Tex to believe the trail boss s promise about getting them to the end safely. Tex finally agreed. Just like Tex, we have a choice. We can either believe God s promises or not. That includes the promise of forgiveness and salvation through Jesus Christ. Our Bible story, skit and every activity in our small group time was geared toward teaching your children about God s promise of eternal life and the choice they have to believe it or not.
