1 Lesson Goal: The children will learn that God is all-powerful and that we should worship Him. Main Point: God Is More Powerful Than Anything, So I Should Worship Him! Bible Lesson: God stopped the Sun (Joshua 10) Bible Verse: All glory, majesty, power, and authority are His before all time, and in the present, and beyond all time. Jude 25b (NLT) Atom Shaker (Opening Activity) This activity will engage the children s attention as they enter the room and will encourage the children to do their best. Amazing Facts (Alternate Opening Activity) This activity will help the children learn that no matter how amazing and powerful something is, God is more powerful than anything. Skit And Bible Lesson (Large Group Activity) The children will learn that God is all-powerful and that we should worship Him. Bible Formula (Small Group Activity) This activity will get the children into their Bibles and help them review the Bible Verse for the week. Science Journal (Small Group Activity) This activity will help the children review the Main Point, Bible Lesson and Bible Verse. Keep God #1 (Small Group Activity) This object lesson will help the children see that one way to worship God is to spend time with Him. Respect Him (Small Group Activity) This activity will help the children understand that one way to worship God is to show Him respect. Time Flies (Small Group Activity) This activity will remind the children of the Bible Lesson and emphasize that God is more powerful than anything, therefore we should worship Him. Experiments With Dr. Oppenheimerstein (Review Activity) This activity is a strategic time to review and reinforce the content of the lesson.

2 Atom Shaker OPENING ACTIVITY LESSON 5 Purpose: This activity will engage the children s attention as they enter the room and will encourage the children to do their best. Description: The children will tie an empty tissue box, filled with atoms (ping pong balls), around their waist. The children will then do their best to shake as many atoms out of the tissue box as they can. Whoever gets all of the atoms out of their tissue box first, wins. Materials Needed: For this activity you will need this Help Sheet, three empty tissue boxes, three flag football belts or three regular belts, duct tape, at least thirty ping pong balls, and the Opening Activity media elements from the Lesson 5 MediaShout or ProPresenter File. Note: Play the Doors Open Music when the children begin to enter the room. To introduce this activity, say the following: Let s get started! This activity is called Atom Shaker. We are going to have one volunteer from each team come up on stage. You will tie a tissue box filled with atoms around your waist. It is your job to shake as many atoms out of the tissue box as you can. Note: Choose one volunteer from each team. For detailed instructions on how to do this activity, see the Teacher/Co-Teacher Training Video. During the activity, say the following: 1. Are you ready? Kids, are you ready to cheer for your teammate? Okay! 2. Ready, Set, Go! Note: Play the Game Go Music Keep doing your best! Kids, keep cheering. Great job! Now it s time for us to pick new volunteers and play again. Note: Reset the game and continue playing with new volunteers from each team until it is time to start your children s worship hour. After the activity, say the following: 1. Great job with that game! 2. Let s get ready for our countdown to Adventures In Science! 1

3 Alternate Opening Activity: Purpose: This activity will introduce the children to the fact that God is more powerful than anything. Description: The children will answer true/false questions about powerful and amazing things. They will learn that God is more powerful than anything. Materials Needed: For this activity you will need this Help Sheet, the list of amazing facts on this Help Sheet, and/or your own list of amazing facts. To introduce this activity, say the following: 1. We are going to play True or False. 2. I m going to call out a powerful thing. 3. I ll also call out a measurement of how powerful it is. 4. If you think it is true, go to this side of the room. 5. If you think it is false, go to that side of the room. Note: All the facts listed below are true. If you wish to mix in some false answers make them less powerful. For example: The temperature of a bolt of lightning is 40,000 degrees. That is false, it is even more powerful! It is 50,000 degrees! For detailed instructions on how to do this activity, see the Training Video. During the activity, say the following: 1. The temperature of a bolt of lightning is 50,000 degrees Fahrenheit. (True.) 2. The Orca is the fastest swimming mammal with a maximum speed of 34 miles per hour. (True.) 3. The wind speed of a tornado can be up to 286 miles per hour. (True.) 4. The World Record for most concrete blocks broken by hand in one minute is 64. (True.) 5. The Sperm Whale can dive to a depth of 8,000 feet. (True.) 6. Summary: In this activity we have seen many powerful things. Today we are going to be talking about the most powerful thing in the universe.

5 Lava Tower SCIENCE EXPERIMENT LESSON 5 Purpose: This activity will add a fun element to the service and will engage the children s attention. Description: The children will watch an engaging experiment conducted by the Teacher and CoTeacher to capture the children s attention and imagination. Materials Needed: For this activity you will need this Help Sheet, two safety goggles, an empty one liter plastic bottle, one funnel, one large bottle of vegetable oil, water, food coloring, one or two AlkaSeltzer tablets, and one table to perform the experiment on. To introduce this activity at the beginning of service, say the following: 1. Today s experiment is called Lava Tower. 2. I m going to pour this in here...perfect. Note: At the beginning of service the Teacher will come out from backstage whistling. Pour water through the funnel and into the empty bottle until it is one third full. Then pour the vegetable oil into the bottle until the bottle is mostly full. Let the bottle sit until the middle of the service when you do your experiment time. Once the Teacher has prepared the experiment, the Co-Teacher will enter and service will officially begin. For detailed instructions on how to do this activity, see the Teacher/Co-Teacher Training Video. During the activity in the middle of service, say the following: 1. It s almost time to go to our Scientific Groups but before we do, let s take a look at today s Science Experiment. 2. Let s put our safety goggles on. 3. Look at the vegetable oil, it is sitting right on top of the water. The vegetable oil is lighter than the water, so it floats on top. 4. Wow, look at the food coloring as it goes through the oil. 5. Now I m going to put some Alka-Seltzer into the bottle and it will create lava bubbles. 6. You may not be able to see the experiment from your seat so you can walk by with your group on your way out to your Scientific Groups. Note: Add a generous amount of food coloring to the bottle. Break a couple of Alka-Seltzer tablets into smaller pieces and add to the bottle. Add more Alka-Seltzer as needed to keep the reaction going. After the activity, say the following: Now it is time for our Scientific Groups. Have fun! 1

Single Teacher Digital Media Script WATCHING THE BIBLE LESSON AND SKIT ON VIDEO Purpose Statement: The children will learn that God is all-powerful and that we should worship Him. Materials/Props Needed: Adventures In Science Lesson 5 MediaShout or ProPresenter File. Costume (Teacher: Lab coat and safety goggles.) Props: One clipboard. Opening Activity Supplies: See the Help Sheet for a list of supplies. Science Experiment Supplies: See the Help Sheet for a list of supplies. Begin the Opening Activity. Lead the children through the Opening Activity Atom Shaker, or another Large Group Activity to engage the children s attention as they enter the room. (looks at class) Say, another great looking class we have here today! #1 Let me finish up here really quick...thanks for coming everyone! I m Professor (Teacher s name)! And this is AIS Laboratories. A place of research and development where we look at the miracles and mysteries of the Bible. It s also where we do research just down the hall from the illustrious Dr. Oppenheimerstein and his robot Flask. Dr. Opp is a brilliant scientist trying to win the famous Plutonium Award! Now it s important in our lab to remember that we have lots of items we need to be careful around. Because of that, we have some very important rules that all of us need to follow. [2] The first is that everyone must stay in their seat at all times, unless we tell you that you can get up! 7 [5] And the fourth is to participate and have fun! And in order to begin having that, everybody stand up and help me kick off our time in the Adventures In Science Lab with a song! Teacher leads the children in singing Shout Out Loud. [6] Great job on that song! Singing is one of the ways that we worship God. [7] In fact, there are lots of reasons we worship God. Another reason we worship God is because He is all-powerful. How can I explain this? I know! A few nights ago I saw something pretty cool on TV. It was a strong man competition. There was a guy who strapped a huge truck to his back and dragged it down the street. Then this second guy strapped a school bus to his back and dragged it down the street! Finally, this third guy strapped two school busses to his back and dragged them both down the street. You might be thinking, how can anyone be more powerful than that? Well, even if someone dragged three busses, or even four, there is still someone who will always be more powerful: God. God is more powerful than anyone we could ever imagine. In fact, God is so powerful, He controls everything in the universe! He can control storms, the ocean, the stars in the sky, the sun, the moon, anything and everything in the Universe is under his control and command! That s what we mean when we say God is all-powerful. That s one reason why we worship Him. In fact, that s our Main Point: God Is More Powerful Than Anything, So I Should Worship Him! Everybody stand up! [8] God Is More Powerful Than Anything, So I Should Worship Him! The Teacher leads the children to make up cheerleader-type hand motions that go along with the Main Point. Once everyone has gone over the Main Point, have the children repeat it with the motions two or three times. I don t know about you, but I like the idea that God is completely in control and that there s nothing more powerful than Him. There s a verse that I like to think about whenever I m telling anyone about God s power. (to children) You know, we give you Bible verses each week because we want you to try and memorize them. They will help you in life. This verse tells us that there is no one more glorious, more majestic, more powerful or with more authority than God! There is no one like Him and He deserves our worship. 2

8 I wonder if Dr. Oppenheimerstein knows that verse. I doubt it...but it s an interesting coincidence that I heard he is doing some experiments with power today. Let s go see what happens. God is so powerful that there is nothing that He can not do. And like I said earlier, that s just ONE of the many, many reasons why we worship God. In fact, I think right now is a great time to worship God by singing to Him! Teacher leads the children in singing Limitless.
