1 S u n d a y, M a r c h 18 t h, Today s Events Coffee Hour Immediately following the service in the Parish Hall Gather with Arlington Street Church s congregation in this lively and social environment. To find the Parish Hall, head downstairs using the stairs in the rear of the sanctuary. The coffee s on us; freshly-made sandwiches, and refreshments are available for purchase. All are welcome. John Adams Unbound Discussion: 12:15 pm in the Perkins Room Walk to BPL: 1:00 pm from the Perkins Room Join Rev. Vera OBrien and member Roger Hooper for a brief lunchtime discussion of John Adam s Unitarian ties. Or join us as we walk down to visit the first public exhibition of his complete library at John Adams Unbound at the Boston Public Library. We ll leave from the Perkins Room at 1:00 pm sharp! Ministry for Earth Film Series: Dimming the Sun 12:45 pm in the Clarke Room Established during the Winter of 2006, the Ministry for Earth Film Series is sponsored by both our Green Sanctuary and Social Action Committees. The series explores environmental concerns and a discussion follows each film. All films are free and open to the public (a donation will be accepted). Dimming the Sun In a stunning investigation, NOVA reports on the discovery that the amount of sunlight reaching Earth is dropping a big surprise given international concern over global warming. Less sunlight might hardly seem to matter when our planet is stewing in greenhouse gases, but the discovery of global dimming has led some scientists to claim that the Earth s climate is heating up much faster than most previous predictions. Spiritual Passion: Books of the People 1:00 pm in the Chapel As Unitarian Universalists, the living tradition we share draws from many sources, including wisdom from the world s religions. And as people of the 21 st century we are challenged by moral and spiritual dilemas with regard to war, human rights, and stewardship of the earth. This workshop presented by lifelong Unitarian Universalist and intern minister Mr. Kelly Weisman Asprooth-Jackson will provide a sampling of wisdom from the Jewish, Christian and Muslim traditions on these issues. Come and get a little practice wrestling with and interpreting spiritual texts in community.

2 Boston Choral Ensemble: Passio 2:00 pm at First Church Cambridge, UCC, 11 Garden St. Free! The Boston Choral Ensemble, one of Arlington Street Church s Artists in Residence, is proud to announce its performance Arvo Pärt s stunning Passio this weekend This is an extremely rare performance of Pärt s 1982 musical setting of the passion story in his trademark tintinnabuli style. The performance will feature a small chamber ensemble (including our own Branden Grimmett!), soloists, and the full choir. Throughout, the music will be accompanied by a video projection of the text in translation and examples of passion art through the centuries. Don t miss this austere yet emotional setting of the work in the first complete New England performance in 14 years. Worship Highlights Covenant Renewal Sunday Sunday, April 1 st, 11:00 am in the Sanctuary Covenant Renewal Sunday is one of our congregation s most vital, inspiring, and fun worship services of the year! A time for renewing our covenant as Arlington Street members and pledging friends through financial and volunteer support for the year to come. Enjoy rousing spiritual/gospel singing, a festive brunch hosted by our Friday Night Supper Program friends and the processional of the Ark of the Covenant! This Sunday the choir will present the first in a two week series of African-American spirituals and gospels chosen to celebrate the rhythms of the Christian liturgical calendar and our own Arlington Street holidays. Don t miss Soon-ah Will be Done and Amazing Grace. Easter Sunday Sunday, April 8 th, 11:00 am in the Sanctuary On this festive Sunday, we sing O Day of Light and Gladness and Lo, the Earth Awakes Again familiar Christian hymns set with decidedly Earthcentered words. Come celebrate the arrival of spring! Wear your bonnet! This Sunday the choir will complete its two week series of African-American spirituals and gospels chosen to celebrate the rhythms of the Christian liturgical calendar and our own Arlington Street holidays. Don t miss Praise His Holy Name and In His Care-o. Our older children begin the three week process of making books and a time capsule. Special thanks to David Schumann who will be sharing his expertise with book binding and special paper folding. Our younger children will continue to explore the seventh Unitarian Universalist principle: We believe in caring for our planet earth, the home we share with all living things. Please check the tables in the Perkins Room for lost and found items as well as crafts to take home.

4 Drakensberg Boys Choir South Africa s World Famous Choir Wednesday, March 28 th, 7:00 pm in the Sanctuary The Drakensberg Boys Choir of South Africa is widely considered among the very elite of choral groups from around the world. In March 2007 US audiences in fifteen eastern cities will find out for themselves why no other boys choir in the world can thrill audiences the way the Drakies do with their unique style of diversity. Whether singing classical, rock, pop, jazz, African, or folk, they never fail to bring audiences to their feet. Arlington Street Church is thrilled to welcome back the Drakies after their wildly-successful performance here in September Don t miss this performance one of only three in the Northeast. Tickets are $20 and will be available at the door. ASC Community Announcements The Living Legacy of Ralph Waldo Emerson 4 Mondays, March 19 th, April 2 nd, 16 th, and 30 th 6:30 8:30 pm in the Perkins Room Since most of us met Ralph Waldo Emerson in high school American Lit. classes, many are surprised to discover that he was also a Unitarian minister. For Emerson, as for many contemporary Unitarian Universalists, religion was a matter of deeds not creeds. Join Rev. Vera OBrien in an exploration of Emerson s own words and his living legacy. Topics will include self reliance, community, social action, and ideas about God (ours and Emersons). There will be short readings of Emerson s work in preparation for each session. If you are interested in attending, contact Vera at VOBrien@ASCBoston.org or , ext. 12. Lessons of Loss 5 Wednesdays beginning March 21 st, at 6:30 pm in the Perkins Room Join Rev. Vera OBrien, our lifespan religious educator and a chaplain at the Brigham and Women s Hospital, for an adult program on loss and growth. Participants will identify losses and explore how our Unitarian Universalist beliefs can be a resource at difficult times. This is not a bereavement group because many different kinds of losses will be examined. One participant said, Loss is part of life, but not one that my family was comfortable discussing openly. By participating in this class, I was able to revisit some of my assumptions about how to deal with loss and I made deeper connections with other participants. Sign-up is required and class size will be limited. Please contact Rev. Vera at VOBrien@ASCBoston.org or by calling , ext 12. Corporation Meeting Agenda Sunday, March 25 th, 12:30 pm in the Sanctuary * I. Membership Update * II. Election of GA Delegates & Alternates * III. Jubilee Committee Proposal IV.
